Have you made a very good friend in RL out of MN

Was reading another thread and it made me wonder if any of you had made a (or many) friend(s) on MN - so you had never met them before - and went on to become real life friends above and beyond MN. (presumably started by contacting the on CAT of MN).
Do you think you'll stay friends even when one of you "leaves" MN?

LOL-Jools-you obvioulsy DONT know Plumstead-its the pits! Mitcham isnt that close although dont actually know where it is!

dinny · 18/05/2005 21:55

So's Mitcham (the pits too!) It's near Tooting/Streatham....awful place!!

sammac · 18/05/2005 22:07

Made a lovely friend, even thought she's at the opposite end of the country. I've stayed with her and met her lovely family, and hopefully she'll come here too. Chat almost every day, and 'see' each other then too. She knows more than most about me too!

Aero · 18/05/2005 22:16

Ditto Sammac!

dropinthe · 18/05/2005 22:18

I'd like to meet some of the old timers on here-think they live all over the country though!

Aero · 18/05/2005 22:25

In answer to the question, yes. Sammac has become a good friend to me (yes you have - no need to be embarrassed dearie), despite living miles and miles away! We have loads in common and often 'say' the same thing at the same time during msn conversations!
Also, I see Rickman and Freckle from time to time too and consider them both to be friends too. They're lovely.
Have met a few others who are great and hope to get to know them better on meet-ups!

I've had some jolly teas with montherinferior - her dd's are almost exactly the same age as my ds and dd and we both do similar work for a living so it's fun to have support on that as well as the mummy stuff. Feel very pleased to have made that link through Mumsnet and will definitely keep it up.

wilbur · 19/05/2005 14:47

dinny and dropinthe - MI and I are in S. London too, I'm in Balham so not far from Mitcham. I think there are more mumsnetters in SE London than SW, or at least they seem to make the effort to get together.

Toothache · 19/05/2005 14:48

Me and breeze struck up a friendship as we both suffered from PND. However she is in Portsmouth and I'm in Falkirk. We've never met, but have spoken on the phone a few times, email, text etc. She was invited to my wedding too, although it was too far to come and too short notice on my part.

mummyhill · 19/05/2005 16:45

Yes I meet up with whimsy as often as possible, since i found out she only lives a mile away from us. Our kids are of a similar age and get on really well together and there will be 8 weeks or so between our second children and hopefully they will get as well as their older siblings do.

dinny · 19/05/2005 19:49

OOh, are you, Wilbur? Let me know if you and Motherinferior fancy meeting up some time with me and Lockets on Tooting Common

NomDePlume · 19/05/2005 19:55

Only just seen this - GeorginaA is also a sweetie, in fact I'm posting from her laptop whilst I sit for her gorgeous boys .

I've met a few and am good friends with 2 or 3. MN has been great to me, although it seems to be going a bit crazy lately. Usually it tails off after a day or 2 but this rough patch seems to lasting .

In response to the question re leaving MN, of course I would stay friends with the people I've met here if one of us decided to sign off MN for good. We are friends because we have more in common than just this website ! Those things wouldn't change even if my MN user status did.

NomDePlume · 19/05/2005 19:56

...."seems to be lasting"

motherpeculiar · 19/05/2005 20:01

dinny - i didn't realise you were near streatham - i'm herne hill, which isn't far from you then. let me know if you are meeting up.

oh, and i met pidge today (my first MN meetup , other than dinny who doesn't count as I knew her in RL b4 and in fact haven't seen at all since meeting on MN, hmmmm....) and she was lovely and has told me she'll invite me round for tea when back from her hols.

dinny · 19/05/2005 20:05

Hi, Motherpeculiar - how's it going? How are your dds? Hope it's all going well and you're getting some sleep
Had no idea you were so near us - we really should meet up some time. You're only about 20 mins away, I reckon.
Let me know what days are good for you if you fancy it....

motherpeculiar · 19/05/2005 20:12

good days depend on whether you want the full onslaught of peculiarity or just me and the newbie (peculiar enough for many!)

it's just us two mon, tues, weds (and thurs until start of june).

Full onslaught available on Fridays, soon to be fridays and thursdays. Help!

How about you? hope your two are well and you are enjoying them. Would be good to see you.

Have you seen the tall and gorgeous one lately? I saw her fleetingly a wek or two ago when she came to check out DD2. It was really nice.

Am happy to meet other S Londoners too, b4 this looks like a complete hijack

dinny · 19/05/2005 20:16

well, am kind of the same - just me and my new man Tue and Wed. But the full onslaught of Peculiars sounds more fun, so maybe a Friday...?
Mine are driving me mad but in a happy, chaotic way
We haven't seen each other since a very drunken New Year's Eve, hopefully not too long. DD banging on about her dd lots at the mo.
Do you drive? Where should we conduct this meet-up?

motherpeculiar · 19/05/2005 20:23

fridays are good - I drive so can do anywhere really. you're welcome to come to mine though, or I'm more than happy to get out. Anywhere good near you to contain the madness and chaos?

dinny · 19/05/2005 20:25

Is Clapham kind of mid-way between us?

motherpeculiar · 19/05/2005 20:26

yup - don't hang out there much tho' so you'll need to suggest somewhere

dinny · 19/05/2005 20:28

or Dulwich?

dinny · 19/05/2005 20:30

Mind you, am suggesting places I don't really know amazingly well. I normally go to Wimbledon Park (lovely), Wandsworth Common (nice) or Tooting Common (OK). Which - if any - would be handier? Would suggest Streatham but it's a bit miserable, IMO....

motherpeculiar · 19/05/2005 20:32

dulwich is very handy for me - we could take the kids to the park and then hit the pub. sorry, i meant the cafe in the park of course

when do you fancy?

motherpeculiar · 19/05/2005 20:34

posts crossed - of those you suggested tooting common is handiest but if too grim I'll travel no problem
