Hi, I'm 41whispers quietly and have 3 kids, dd18 ds16 and an 8 month old. Would love to hear from any other older mothers.

Oh, ancient mums, can I join in? I was 40 in August and have two dds, one 5 and one nearly 1. I don't feel that old as most of my friends with babies are late 30s/early 40s, but I do feel permanently knackered, especially since dd2, and wonder whether I was mad to go through it again 4 years later. Personally, I became a mother later due to a complete failure to grow up and meet anyone I was prepared to commit to for long enough to conceive until I was 32!

Goldfish · 29/04/2005 22:23

When we were small everyone had to wait until I opened my birthday pressies before they could open their christmas pressies. On of my sisters birthdays is Dec 30th so it was a busy time.
I used to be a SAHM until my dss started school, but for the last 5 years I have worked as a teaching assistant in a first school.

emmatom · 29/04/2005 22:52

Hi helsy, WOW, so many of us!!

Blimey goldfish, your folks must have had to save up all year to celebrate December in your house!!

You've got an ideal job there with the hours havn't you?

Good things come to those who wait eh Helsy!

noma · 30/04/2005 16:01

Hi can i join in too! I am 42 with ds 2 and dd 5 months, i didnt realise there were so many older moms seeing as i get funny looks when i go out shopping or is that because i havent combed my hair and look extremely tired.

laurang63 · 30/04/2005 18:56

Hi noma, You're very welcome to join in . Where is everyone from by the way?

Lonelymum · 30/04/2005 19:06

Hello noma. No they are all craning to get a good look at your gorgeous children! Welcome to the crumblies club.

Goldfish · 01/05/2005 09:24

Hi again everyone, Laurang63, I live in Norfolk, near Gt Yarmouth. It is quite busy here at the moment as we get a lot of holidaymakers descending on us this time of year. Hopefully the weather will get better for them as it was throwing it down with rain earlier, although it has brightened up a little now.

We were supposed to have brilliant weather and I always feel sorry for people who are walking through the rain in their shorts, shivering because they didn't bring any more clothes on holiday. Hopefully it will improve later and we can get down to the beach

Potty1 · 01/05/2005 09:28

The crumblies club - love it

Goldfish, I'm very that you live near to the beach. I'd love to live by the sea.

Goldfish · 01/05/2005 09:48

We are lucky, we can just about see the sea from our bedroom window although the kids don't appreciate it as we have always lived here. The dog appreciates it though, she loves to swim in the sea

emmatom · 01/05/2005 09:49

yes, me too. There's something about waves lashing onto the beach that appeals.

Still I've got the River Severn!!
I'm in a little village about 3 miles from Worcester. Lovely town, nice shops. Easy to get to the 'action', but I enjoy living in the sticks.

Potty1 · 01/05/2005 10:15

I've got the canal! Mind you they've just made up all the towpaths so its lovely to jog along now

Goldfish · 01/05/2005 10:17

jog??!! Blimey, I feel really unfit now. Must do a bit more exercise. I am trying not to be fat and 40

Potty1 · 01/05/2005 10:19

Five miles yesterday Goldfish and I'm very proud of myself (can you tell ) - Still have the 'feel good' feeling 24 hours later.

Goldfish · 01/05/2005 10:30

Good for you Potty1. have you always exercised then? I am one of those people who have a rowing machine that has morphed itself into a clothes horse. I do try. I take the dog for a brisk walk every day but thats not really enough. Actually its not every day, as sometimes dh does it.
I will do a few sit ups, then I forget to do them. I must try harder. My weight is not too bad but could do with losing half a stone. Jogging would kill me off though. I admire you deeply

Potty1 · 01/05/2005 10:36

No, hated it when I was younger, played netball in middle school and that's about it. Crosscountry mean't hiding under the bridge down the road and tagging on at the back when the other suckers came back lol!

I got into running about 5 years ago just because I needed the exercise, it was free and I could go out whenever I had a free half hour. Ran in my local Race for Life and was hooked!
Plus it means I don't need to be really careful about what I eat although I could do with losing half a stone myself if truth be told.

Goldfish · 01/05/2005 10:43

Funnily, I loved cross country at high school. Represented the town and all that. I loved hockey and played in the team. Since I had the kids though I have become lazy. I would love to go to aerobics as I need motivating but can't get out regularly in the evening as dh works away 2 weeks at a time and I don't have a babysitter. Plus working parttime doesn't leave me much time during the day. I will just have to get rowing before my old joints start to sieze up

aloha · 01/05/2005 10:44

Crumblies? Are you all mad? Is Brad Pitt a 'crumbly'? Is Keanu Reeves a 'crumbly"? Elizabeth Hurley? Let's not do ourselves down, please!

Freckle · 01/05/2005 10:49

Oh look. I've only just spotted this thread and thought I'd join in but then realised that most of you are younger than I am and I might be too old .

I'm way past 40 with 3 DSs, aged 11, 9 and the baby who will be 7 later this month. I still feel about 16 (mentally, not physically) and I keep waiting for something to jump out and say "Surprise! It's all a joke and you're not really a grown up."

Potty1 · 01/05/2005 11:21

Hello Freckle - I'm about 25 in my head - still trying to decide what I'll do when I grow up

Lonelymum · 01/05/2005 14:45

Come on now Freckle, we have no secrets from each other here. Saying you are way past 40 is a bit too coy isn't it? Tell us what was No 1 when you were born or what major event happened in the year you were born so we can have a better idea of what we are dealing with here!

Emmatom, if things get too much for you, you can always send as SOS message in a bottle down the Severn in the hope that I will see it before it goes out to sea (we can see the Severn just up river from the bridges into Wales from our upstairs windows!)

Freckle · 01/05/2005 14:49

Apparently it was Frankie Vaughan with The Garden of Eden! Any the wiser??

Lonelymum · 01/05/2005 14:52

No! but at least you didn't say Vera Lynn with white Cliffs of Dover!

Cam · 01/05/2005 16:54

I'm not a crumbly but I am a wrinkly and I too am way past 40 and staring at the next decade full in the face. The problem with being 40 is that it really starts to speed up after that. But what can you do I have a dd aged 8 years and most people on here know that I also have a grownup dd by my first marriage.

tallulah · 01/05/2005 17:28

I'm another one from 63. Didn't realise there were so many

Laurang63 · 01/05/2005 17:46

Hi newbies to the thread, it's great to see so many of us!
Freckle, I know what year you were born, but I won't say but hey, so what, it's only a number
