no need to apologize emma . I feel like I'm getting better, I just wish I had more confidence.

Have you tried the website 'www.netmums.com'.

It's really very good. The layout is very clear and lots of mums with pnd offer advice.

They also have a very good local meet a mum section. Bet you'd find someone local to you on there and that might lead to something, or you could just chat of course.

emmatom · 28/04/2005 21:44

Laurang, you've produced 3 children and you had the courage to start this brilliant thread for older mums.

I think that makes you bloody amazing actually.

Laurang63 · 28/04/2005 21:46

Thanks for that emma I'll take a look sometime

Sorry, checked out for a while there. Just reading the 'behaviour in schools' thread and it makes me want to cry/scream/runaway as my 'baby'starts secondary in Seprember

Potty1 · 28/04/2005 21:49

Laura - I suffer from confidence crisis too. And it creeps up on me so suddenly. One minute I could take on the world and the next I want to run away and hide.

Lonelymum · 28/04/2005 21:52

Is this lack of confidence thing linked to being in yur 40s though? I feel quite OK being 40. I heard someone famous once saying she felt better as she wasn't weighed down by the need to be young and glamorous anymore (she might have been older than 40 though, now I come to think of it.) Anyway, that is how I feel.

emmatom · 28/04/2005 21:53

Potty1, don't you think that's our hormones.

Despite feeling very confident most of the time, there are times, especially when the weather is bad (SAD maybe?) when I could just hibernate and feel almost agrophobic.

I havn't got depression but sometimes I want to tell the world to foxtrot oscar.

Potty1 · 28/04/2005 21:55

No mine isn't - I've been like this since I turned 30. I think that was a biggy for me plus it coincided with the birth of my youngest who was pretty sick and I doubted my skills as a mother . It's so much better now but occasionally gets the better of me. Plus I've started to blush like a 16 year old for no good reason and thats definitely an age thing!

Laurang63 · 28/04/2005 21:56

I really don't know what it is. I darent even drive now, much to dhs frustration! God are'nt I sad!

That's not the beginning of the meno is it?!!!

Hot flushes/blushing I mean. Oh god, that's a whole new thread and something we can all look forward to!!

Potty1 · 28/04/2005 21:58

That's a shame about the driving - it is really isolating when you have small children and you can't get out easily.

Potty1 · 28/04/2005 21:58

Emma - probably, but who knows? I refuse to even think about it.

emmatom · 28/04/2005 22:02

I've got to go now, got to get my hot chocolate and settle down to watch Hells Kitchen with that very delectable French Jean whatsisname.

Can we keep this thread going on, dipping in every now and then.

Laurang63 · 28/04/2005 22:05

bye emma, I've also gtg, dds crying! Hope to speak soon!

Enjoy yourself Emma. See you again soon.

emmatom · 29/04/2005 18:12

Hi, all you laughter lined, mature lovelies out there.

How are you all, had a good day?

aloha · 29/04/2005 18:18

Anyone seen this week's Hello? Lady Helen Taylor - 41, with her fourth baby? Looking very good indeed.

emmatom · 29/04/2005 18:21

Just flicked through it today actually aloha and thinking the very same myself.

A true beauty, don't you think. Her mum was as well, actually still is and she must be knocking on 65-70!!

o Lady helen dresses well too doesn't she. Fashionable but not mutton if you know what I mean.

She probably has a lot of help with the kids to ease the strain however.

aloha · 29/04/2005 18:28

Oh yes, she's rich and pampered all right. But I still really enjoyed looking at the pictures! I thought she looked beautiful. I think one of the signs of being an older mother is that you mentally collect celebs who are at your life stage.

emmatom · 29/04/2005 18:29

yes I agree. I think Nigella is stunning.

emmatom · 29/04/2005 18:38

I'll be back later.

Goldfish · 29/04/2005 19:19

Hello everyone, please can I join in? I am 40 with ds1 11 years and ds2 10yrs. Lonelymum and emmatom I was also born in December 64 (Dec 25th to be exact). I cannot believe I am 40 but I don't really feel it (although I probably look it).

emmatom · 29/04/2005 22:07

Hi Goldfish, I don't think any of us feel it, except for when we're cream crackered!!

How did you used to fare for Christmas pressies then. I know mine was 3 days after Christmas day, but I was always lucky enough to have my birthday celebrated seperately. Hope you were too?!

What do you do with yourself workwise then? Anything interesting, or are you at home, which is equally interesting of course!!! (and a lot more cushy!)
