MAYBE I'm the odlerst mum!!!!!!!!!! Not that I care to think about it, DD is just 11 and DS is 7 (Moi? = 50 ARRRGGGHHHH) and STILL desperately longing for babies. We waited and waited and ended up the IVF route but what a joy, nothing compares to being Mummy

tissey · 11/08/2006 23:19

Hi, thanks for responding to my message, my middle grandaughter is only 3 months younger than my son, so he is her uncle. I would also like to mention to any other older mums out there that I chose to have a home birth with thomas despite being 42 and it was wonderful, would recommend if any of you were considering it.

just read my last post must have been dreaming 35!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I meant 45

KiwiKat · 07/09/2006 14:24

Can really relate to feeling 100 - especially today, when Max, 10 1/2 weeks old, is whinging because he has wind, a runny nose and cough and is tired. He has had all of 15 minutes sleep since 6 this morning, but today he's decided he's just not going to sleep. I keep trying, but he's not playing the game.

I wonder how different it would have been if I'd had him at 25 instead of 40 ...

Hi there

Hope you don't mind me gatecrashing your thread. I've just turned 41 (although everyone is always shocked when they tell them that as they think I'm in my thirties, whoo hoo!) and have a 2.5 year old daughter who is wonderful, but has the energy of Josie Jump and I don't neither does DH and he's still in his 30s!! I come into work for a rest!

I'm very lucky though as most of my post natal group are over 40 and I have two best friends over 40 all with children the same age as my DD so I don't feel too old!

mum2oneplustwins · 14/09/2006 10:54

Hi all - I'm 40 (2.12.65) with ds 7 year old and ds & dd twins 4 years old. Way too much for me to handle, I feel very tired all the time and wish I'd met dh when I was in my twenties! Also one of the twins has a mish mash of autistic spectrum disorders so I find him very hard work..... The older ds also has very very mild Asperger's we think. Fun life, eh?! Lucky I have a part-time job to take me away from home stuff. dh has just turned 38 and is a rock. We both find ourselves thinking how different life would be on our own - ie, holidays etc etc. sorry, stop my moaning but good to get it off the old chest. Good to read other crinkly people's posts!

fatfox · 14/09/2006 11:20

Hi there

I'm 43 (only just mind....) and have DS 6, DD 3 and pregnant with 3rd, due early March. We live in west London and am deffo interested in meeting some other mature Mums

mrsmummy · 14/09/2006 16:01

Hi

I am an older mum too, born in 1965, am 41 with 2 children 6 and 3,i don't feel 41 bit on a bad day i look about 50!!!

TA5324 · 14/09/2006 17:34

Hi, I am coming up to 48 and have a dd aged 3 1/2. Never wanted children when I was younger as I was a career girl, then suddenly thought at 42 maybe I was missing out on something. Had IVF at Oxford and was really lucky to be successful first time. I was right, I was missing out, can't beleive how much pleasure it is being a mum - it's now my full time career and I love every minute of it.

binker · 14/09/2006 18:17

I'm really ancient -48 in a few days - with a 9 yr old son...I seem to be the oldest mum in his class and certainly the oldest in my book group, though I reckon (and have been told) that I don't look that old !!! most of my friends are younger than me and it doesn't bother me,except when I suddenly remember !

fatfox · 14/09/2006 18:40

TA - your "history" is a bit like mine (but without the IVF). I often wish I'd done it earlier and now I can't think why I put off having children solong. I'm having my 3rd at 43, so it may be just as well I didn't start earlier, as I'd probably have 12 by now if I had

Binker - you must have had your DS when aged 39, which is not old at all (not by my standards anyway)

Mrsmummy - yours are same age as mine, though (annoyingly) you're younger than me

mrsmummy · 15/09/2006 13:31

Must admit it is the best thing i have ever done, not sure i was ready for children when i was younger, saying that i was only 34 when i had my first,i was 37 when i had my daughter, but from the hospitals point of view i might have been 87!!
fatfox i am only just a bit younger but i won't be having anymore!, don't du pregnacy well and both were planned c - sections due to medical reasons - of which none are age related

Firewalker · 15/09/2006 13:47

Believe it or not, my friend's Mum had a baby in 1978 at the grand old age of 31 and was put in an "Old mother's ward" (yes it actually had that written on the door!!

How times have changed! 31 is probably considered quite young now.

I had my daughter at 38 - got pregnant first try as well. My Mum said that I would have been considered an absolute dinosaur in her day having a baby (especially a first) at that age. She had me at 22 which was considered about average then!

helsy · 15/09/2006 13:52

So, is anyone else permanently knackered? Because I am! Sometimes I think about my girls being teenagers when I'm in my fifties (they're 2 and 6, I'm 42), and it scares the whatsit out of me.

Murphee · 15/09/2006 14:53

41 in November. 1 DD 2.9. Knackered 24/7. North London/Herts anyone?

mrsmummy · 15/09/2006 15:43

yes i'll join the permanently knackered club!but they are worth it.I`m in lancashire

Firewalker · 15/09/2006 16:14

Me too - as I said in my previous post, its sometimes nice to come into work to have a good rest!

I say this and our DD has been a dream sleeper since 12 weeks. Apart from two nights when she was ill, we have never been woken nor had to get up in the night for over two years! But I'm still knackerred!!!

Firewalker · 15/09/2006 16:14

Oh - and I'm in Surrey

binker · 15/09/2006 17:47

I'm in Hampshire

Cassoulet · 15/09/2006 18:09

Can I join the PK Club too? I'm 48 with a 7yo. In Devon.

Murphee · 15/09/2006 18:20

Do any of you remember what it was like before kids when you might look in the mirror after a big/late night and think "Oh my God, what a fright" but know that if you slept, ate, generally looked after yourself you would look better pretty soon? Then you have a baby and realise you look like it every day but, hey, you've earnt that look, thinking that as the baby grows you will start to look like you again. Then one day I looked in the mirror and realised the look was permanent!
