More than fab

needmorecoffee · 20/02/2008 08:26

we were going to have to spend thousands getting a mortgage to buy a bungalow (and risk interets rates going up etc) because she wouldn't get rid of her rabbits/guinea-pigs and dogs. No private rental would take animals that we could find.
So thousands for elderly animals worth about 50p.
Thank gawds the council came through. Its smaller than she will like and she will sulk like a 2 yo but arse, its got to be better than being homeless ffs.
Last night she was whinging that the bedroom might not be big enough for a double bed and her dogs like to sleep in the bed.

Desiderata · 20/02/2008 22:20

Jesus wept! Your mother is a nightmare. I'm glad the council came through, but also very sorry that you felt it valid to put yourself in financial straits on her behalf.

It seems to me, having read some of your posts on the subject, that you are the parent and she is the child here. You've got enough on your plate kid, without the extra dynamic.

She's using the animals as a crux, isn't she. She seems to value them more highly than you and dd. Was it like that when you were growing up?

needmorecoffee · 21/02/2008 09:03

unfortunately yeah. But the whole guilt thing wont let me say 'you made your bed, so lie in it', she's still my mum IYKWIM.
I'm in line for loads of karma points and a cushy number next lifetime round I reckon
In her defence, she was beaten by her parents and told she was useless and they said they wished they had never had her. Then my dad psychologically abused her and then her Irish boyfriend beat the living crap out of her and us daily. We ended up in a women's refuge. She raised 3 kids alone in the Thatcher years when benefits were appalling and seemed like a strong woman. Its as she's hit 70 that she has become whiny and nervous and unreasonable. Sometimes I fret about Alzheimers or something.

Some folks lives, eh?

The flat is a real result, though. Fingers crossed she settles in OK.

needmorecoffee · 21/02/2008 19:00

She liked it and it was bigger than I remembered. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. I can breathe

It's a free for all - of course you are welcome.

What uni are you at? I was at UWE (finished over summer but want to go back).

charlotte121 · 23/02/2008 20:01

Im at bournmouth uni but my course is held in bridgewater as it is a land based study and bournmouth doesnt have the space. I only have 1 more year left after this, however i might take on a foundation degree in photography as well just because i would like to... might not pan out that way as i have an 8 month old son and im expecting my second. Not the best timing! what were you studying at uwe? how old r u if you dnt mind me asking. do u have a girl or a boy?

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/02/2008 22:48

Oooh forgot to wave to Dillo and Desi!

needmorecoffee · 24/02/2008 08:50

Well, if someone would but suggest a day.....

OP posts:
ArmadilloDaMan · 24/02/2008 11:22

I am not doing anything involving history now unfortunately as graduate jobs are like gold dust. It doesn;t help when you can't/won't travel or work 100 hours a week/have only 1 Alevel to speak of.

I have a nice job though.

Hey puss and F@F/PIxelherder (liking the name).

MaeWest · 25/02/2008 21:15

Wednesday Wednesday Wednesday

or failing that, Friday

how was that on the day suggesting front?
