evening folks!!
so when we all gonna meet up then??

TALLULAHBELLE · 16/03/2008 20:42

Hi all - meetup sounds good. Before 21st April for me (my back to work date ).

After some advice tonight. Firstly from recent househunters -anyone look at Woodlands area at all? Have viewed couple places there am quite interested in so any info on rough prices, best streets, parts to be wary of etc would be useful.

Also am checking out a childminder & wondering what is standard re hourly rate, retainers, holiday pay, providing own lunch etc. Can I expect her to do cloth nappies (not wash them obviously, just bag em & pass them back)? What should I check, qusts to ask look for etc?

Any advice gratefully received.

midnightexpress · 17/03/2008 08:18

Hi Tallulah

West End was out of our price range unfortunately so we didn't look at much over that way (though we did think Scotstoun looked quite reasonable), but I remember when I was looking for this place that I looked at a few in Woodlands, and it also seemed quite reasonable. I guess you might want to avoid some of the more studenty bits (not sure which streets that would be), and check if it's an area with subsidence problems (underground mining I believe) - that may be more Hillhead, not sure.

Not much idea about childminders, but you can get a list from the council of registered chilminders in your area.

Meet-up would be good. We're giong to be quite busy after mid-April, but pretty free until then.

midnightexpress · 18/03/2008 15:26

just a quickie - one of my friends has just launched this website, which you might find useful/interesting if you're in or around Glasgow.

Hope everyone well.

vio · 19/03/2008 12:17

Hi midnight, had a quick look at your friends website, it's very good, good ideas and suggestions for people like me, who doesn't know Glasgow too well.

EsmeWeatherwax · 19/03/2008 13:01

Hi folks, Haven't been on for a while, lol, after my initial first three posts I vanished...typical me!
WhineGums, a few of my friends have given birth in the SGH and have been really well looked after, and absolutely no complaints! It has a pool, but the only hospital in Scotland that you can actually give birth in the pool at is the Paisley RAH. Although from what I hear they're not too keen even there. I had dd at the RAH and was very well looked after.

bitofadramaqueen · 19/03/2008 17:44

Hello everyone, can I join your thread? Been lurking for a wee while... I live in Edinburgh and expecting first baby in June. (Waves hello to whinegums from ante-natal thread).

I see lots of you in Glasgow area but still thought it would be good to have some chat with some fellow Scottish folk (that, and I'm actually from Glasgow...).

blanki · 19/03/2008 22:31

Hello everyone!
Been checking out here but not had time to post in quite a while. Mum and dad have been unwell, so much to do..... you know how it is! In the future I am hoping to do some building work to turn this into a 2 bed joint. Anyone know of any good but reasonable builders?!?
Would still love to meet yal, but just keeps getting harder!

nippersnappers · 20/03/2008 23:15

Bitofadramaqueen,
Jump right in lass, good to see someone else from Edinburgh.
Oh I'm not Scottish though but you can still talk to me

weeonion · 20/03/2008 23:17

evening folks!! hello and how are you all.
just a quick post re birthing in pools. i know that the princess royal do now allow this in the midwife unit on level 5. all midwives have had their training and are chomping at the bit to do them - so worth checking out!

nippersnappers · 20/03/2008 23:23

Evening weeonion, think everyone in Scotland is having an early night tonight.

bitofadramaqueen · 21/03/2008 08:51

Thanks nippersnappers, dont worry I'll talk to anyone .

geordiemacminx · 23/03/2008 19:00

Hey ladies - does anyone know if there is anything on tomorrow that we could take ds to? Fancy a nice family day out.

whinegums · 25/03/2008 11:48

Hi everyone - waves back to bitofadramaqueen.

GMM - did you have a good time at home, I did - missed most of the snow too luckily.

Anyone going to the Scottish Baby Show at the SECC in April - I see you can get half price tickets for Friday if you're a member of Boots Parenting Club. Or two tickets for £10 on the other day (£3 discount) if you quote 'Baby Website' when booking.

Esme, thanks for the reassurance for SGH. Maybe if I can get into the pool there, I just won't get out..... Weeonion ta for tip re Princess Royal, might just check that one out.

vio · 26/03/2008 12:53

A friend of mine have had a very serious car accident in Fort William on Monday, suffers from spinal injury and her family just arrived from Hong Kong and now need to find a place to settle and stay in Glasgow for a least a few months, they are currently at my place but they want to be near their sister/daughter so they can be with them at all times. She is currently staying at the Southern General, Asking for everyone's help! Urgent! need to find a service apartment, fully furnished. Has to be near Southern General Hospital, within walk distance will be ideal if not maybe within 10mins drive. For short term rental about 3-4 months. Thanks!

midnightexpress · 26/03/2008 13:46

So sorry to hear about your friend Vio, that's terrible. I hope she's recovering well.

These are the people that we rented from when we had the builders in before Xmas. They have a few apartments in Randolph Gate, which is just the other side of the Clyde Tunnel from the SGH, off Crow Road (right next to Jordanhill Station), so you could get to the hospital quickly from there. Not sure of prices, as ours was an insurance job, but the website will tell you more.

Otehrwise, have you tried casa - they specialise in lettings, and do short-term lets I think.

HTH

vio · 26/03/2008 15:49

Excellent! Midnight, will look at the websites you suggested.

vio · 26/03/2008 15:53

Midnight, do u know ?how long does it take to drive from the apartment to SGH?

midnightexpress · 26/03/2008 17:09

Vio it shouldn't be much more than 10-15 mins I don't think, even in the rush hour - it's more or less straight down the road and through the Clyde tunnel and the SGH is just at the other end of the tunnel. Hang on and I'll see if I can find a link to a map...

OK, on this map, you can see the hospital at the bottom left hand side. The apartments are by the pink dot in the middle at the top, above where it says 'Broomhill' (the dot is Jordanhill station).

If you give them a call, specify that you'd like a flat in Randolph Gate, as they have other flats in the West End. I think these would be closest to where your friends want to be.

Jacs008 · 26/03/2008 22:39

Hey all, I'm new and trying to get my head around how this board works, so stick with me I live in East Kilbride and have 2 teenies, a 2 year old and seven weeker. Wishaw have two birthing pools and they are happy for you to give birth in the pool, though it might depend on the actual midwife. Glad to see another clothie on here too

TALLULAHBELLE · 27/03/2008 18:05

Hi -Jacs welcome.

AlisonA · 27/03/2008 18:50

Another newbie - kind of. Have been registered on here for years but rarely post! I erm .. run a business in Glasgow that is child related, though I am not a mummy yet! Just thought I would say hi anyway!

Just taken me ages to read through this thread - Im so nosey

geordieminx · 27/03/2008 19:05

Oooo that sounds interesting Alison... tell us more!!!

bitofadramaqueen · 27/03/2008 19:34

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd get in on some chat. Anyone on this thread from Edinburgh who's given birth at the Royal? At 6 months pregnant I think I finally maybe need to start thinking about birth stuff instead of shopping for baby things (although I can do both obviously) and wondered if anyone had any tips/advice etc about this particular hospital for a first-timer like me!

Jacs008 · 27/03/2008 20:23

Hi Alison, what is it that you do then (I'm nosey too ). I'm on mat leave but harbour a dream to take over the world with my own design for a cloth nappy (and one of these days I might actually get around to selling them) until then I'll just have to live with a spare room that's bursting at the seams with rolls of towelling fabric (and computers, and toys and everything else in the house that doesn't have anywhere else to live).
