We've now vacated the pregnancy threads - hope everyone can find us here!

Oooo too early for us ME - would probably be 11.30ish?

Carnival · 10/03/2008 14:24

Hi Tallulahbelle,

We've got a great plumber, not sure whether he'll cover your area though, but he's really helpful and very reasonable.

William Barbour - W Barbour Plumbing 49, Penilee Rd, Ralston, Paisley, Renfrewshire, PA1 3HE Phone: 0141 561 9813.

He's replaced everything in my house, except the toilet bowl and we've recommended him in the past and our pals have always been happy.

Good luck

Carnival · 10/03/2008 14:30

Hi Paranoid,

I had my DD in the PRM, I went to all of the classes, largely because I was getting to skive off my work and go home early. The classes were friendly and chatty, but they weren't of much practical help.

I got two pieces of advice that I remember and did use:

Pelvic Floor Exercises - you should give them a go

Enjoy your baby during your mat leave, just take time to stare and smile and love, put your feet up when you can and don't worry too much about the housework. Let visitors make their own coffee/tea.

midnightexpress · 10/03/2008 17:14

Oh well GMM - another time, maybe a Mon or a Fri when I have both boys? I'd have to leave as soon as we got there.

Will be a bit closer too once we move.

Thanks for the plumber info Carnival. Should have someone, but will give him a call if we get no joy with this one (it was me not Tallulah). Are you a newbie btw?

midnightexpress · 10/03/2008 17:17

Oh, and Trixy, what days will ds be going to Oakwood? We've got Mon and Fri mornings from August. I'd asked for three mornings but no space for Sam at the moment so I think we'll just go with what they have and try to pick up another half day when a space comes up.

In the menatime, will have to ferry them over here (J's place finally comes up the day after we move house - typical).

trixymalixy · 10/03/2008 20:30

Hi ME, Congrats on selling your flat so quickly!

DS is going all day on Wednesdays. That's a shame that they won't be there on the same day. It's fab that you managed to get a place so quickly though.

Work is fine, in fact i'm enjoying being out of the house and getting a break from DS, it's just the getting up and out of the house so early that is hellish. Particularly if DS has been up a couple of times. He likes to wake up at 5.30ish and not really go back to sleep until it's time to get up

Hope the flat sale goes well tallulah.

Paranoid,I gave birth at the PRM, I don't think i learnt anything particularly useful at the antenatal classes., apart from what not to take in. They provide nappies, cotton wool, nappy bags and maternity pads. You will be absolutely fine.

Hello to all the newbies!!!!

Carnival · 10/03/2008 21:32

Hi ME,

Sort of Newbie, been registered a while, but don't often get time to post. Good luck with whichever plumber you get.

geordiemacminx · 11/03/2008 16:28

Will actually be going to soft play tomorrow 11.30 if anyone is bored?

ellesbelles · 11/03/2008 17:30

I'll see you there at 11.30-ish GMM. Bring on the cake!!

Hi to everyone. Plasterer coming soon to give us a quote for living room ceiling, so no time to write lots - sorry!!

Anyone know of anywhere doing a good deal on carpets just now?

lp77 · 11/03/2008 23:37

Hello you all, been a while since I posted, hope all well.

Paranoid, don't stress about not going to antenatal, as the rest say, not much it can tell you, just have open mind about what is going to happen, nothing can prepare you, but all is worthwhile ( I now have 2 kids both delivered at QMH) The PRM is a lovely new unit.
Never went to any classes second time round. Only good thing 1st time was meeting a couple of girls.
Whinegums, my friend delivered at SGH, she said the girls there were lovely. Birthing pools, it is a legal thing in scotland not to deliver in pool but as the girls say some places will let you, my cousin delivered at st johns in the pool.
ANd another thing re Paisley, a friend who miscarried was admitted there and she said it was lovely and it restored her faith in nursing!

Hello ladies!

My hushand and I have signed up for the Great Scottish Walk in May, in Glasgow. We have done an interview with the Daily Record yesterday, it should be on the newspaper in the next 2 days, the reporter will inform me before they publish it and I will let you all mums know.

Initially, I wasn't feeling too comfortable with the idea, wasn't sure if I want to speak to the press but it was DebRA's director who contacted me, they said the newspaper approached them after viewing Jim Jim's gonetoosoon website. I discussed it with DH and decided if we can do anything for the charity, we will do it.

ALthought nothing can bring Jim Jim back, we want to do our bits to help, please support us by visiting our fundraising website www.justgiving.com/jim_jim

Please don't feel it's a must to make a donation, I know a lot of you have already made donations soon after Jim Jim was born and after he left.

I would want to ask you for all for a favour too, please help us raise awareness of the condition and the profile of the charity by sending our fundraising page to everyone you know, send it to them via email or post on your facebook if you have one! Your help means a lot to us, and every £ help a great deal!

My sincere thanks in advance!!

lula9 · 13/03/2008 11:27

Hi Whinegums
I'm new here too and booked in to the Southern, due in July. I wasn't sure whether they had a birthing pool or not either so will ask next time i see my midwife (6 weeks!). The Parentcraft classes (yes, these seem to be the antenatal classes) seem a bit of a joke! Women who were lucky enough to have their booking-in scan by 10 weeks, probably have all the evening spots (where you can take a partner). Mine was at 15 weeks though so evening slots weren;t even mentioned to me. There are morning and afternoon sessions though where partners aren't allowed (not enough space apparently...) - i've been advised to ring up nearer the time to see if any evening spots have become available.
Am a bit frustrated so far by the info/lack of it from midwives and SGH plus not being eligible for a routine anomoly scan (paid for one last week though which was worth every penny) and having never been to hospital for anything before am a bit anxious about not the birth itself but the having to go to hospital!

geordiemacminx · 13/03/2008 11:42

LULA - Do you know wha you are having?

lp77 · 13/03/2008 12:17

My friend due to deliver at SGH and apparently the antenatal classes are so busy some ppl don't get them which is terrible they don't have the option no matter they maybe aren't much use but still good to have option esp first time round.

midnightexpress · 13/03/2008 14:07

re the 20-week scan - it might be worth going and talking to your doctor/midwife if you are concerned about this - I went to the ante-natal unit when I was expecting ds2 and burst into tears (long story) and they let me have one, and I know someone else who did much the same. It makes me quite that there is no routine 20-week scan in Glasgow; apart from dates, it identifies loads more than the earlier scan, from what I can gather.

How's the flat sale going Tallulah?

And hi to Vio - good to see you on here. Good luck with the walk!

Loulee · 13/03/2008 14:11

Hi all, not been on in a long while and didn't mean to leave so abruptly - so apologies - it wasn't anything anyone said! - have had a lot going on of late, but things slowly getting back to normal. Glad you all doing well - and nice to see new faces.
Still do the playrooms with the dd's, somaybe see some of you up there sometime?
Lx

and good luck with the walk Vio - will look out for the article

midnightexpress · 13/03/2008 14:13

Louuuuuuuleeee! - long time no see - good to see you're still around - hope all is OK? How is ds? He must be getting big by now?

whinegums · 13/03/2008 16:15

Hi all, Lula, the more I hear about SGH, the more apprehensive I get! I don't mind daytime classes, as I get the time off work! Will ask MW about them next time I see her and waterbirth too. I think I read somewhere about someone saying they wanted a homebirth otherwise, and the MWs suddenly started offering her whatever she wanted, so maybe that's the way to go!

I feel exactly the same way as you about going into hospital. I've been to SGH a couple of times so far. At least all the medical staff I've come across uptil now have been absolutely lovely, so that's something. Still a bit worried about the actual hospital.

I was v cross about the lack of scans too. Sent off furious emails to Nicola Sturgeon, got a reply to say they are planning to fund them in the future, but no use now eh? As it turned out, I had a detailed scan at about 23 weeks due to high risk results from my blood tests. Luckily everything was fine, but 23 weeks is a bit late to be picking up anything that's wrong IMO. I would have paid for a private scan if I hadn't had the detailed one.

SGH let you go and have a look around on Wednesday mornings - you have to arrange in advance - so I'm going to do that, and if I'm really not happy with what I see, I'll think about a different hospital - Princess Royal and Queen Mother's both have midwife-led units.

vio · 13/03/2008 17:06

hi everyone! thanks, yes, plesae look out for the article! but i will also let you know when its on the paper.

We all complain the lack of 20wks scan, they should make it routine really, it's very important.

Fundraising is going well and it keeps my spirits up.

Can you please again ask you for a little favour, copy this message and send you everyone in your email contacts?? please? another reason for me to do this is to remember Jim Jim in a special way, it will soon be his 1st Birthday and I have been worrying how I would have felt, I decided to try my very best to raise funds, I want to show him that his life doesn't stop there cos mummy is doing everything to make him proud.

-----------

This is a real life story, a wee bit sad maybe but certainly worth reading.

James was a little boy who sadly passed away last year, he was born with an incurable condition called EB, Epidermolysis Bullosa, he lived a little more than 4 months but he's an inspiration to his parents and many others.

His parents now want to help children/adult living with the same condition, if you want to find out more about little baby James, please visit his fundraising page www.justgiving.com/jim_jim, you can make a donation if you want or if making a donation isn't an option, please forward this link to everyone you know. We need to raise awareness of this dreadful condition and most importantly, we want to remember James in a very special way.

Sincere thanks to everyone of you!

geordiemacminx · 13/03/2008 18:47

WHnegums - I saw frm your ante natal thread that you are originally from the north east- whereabouts if you dont mind me asking?

clu · 14/03/2008 00:14

hi all been a wee while hope you are all well. Vio good luck with the walk I donated Now need to go catch up on what you have all been doing.

We are fine my flat is getting sorted (it was flooded at christmas) been going backward and forwards to Ireland and now (sob sob my dd is starting nursery im two days a week just now and march 31st FT!) I did find a nursery 5 mins walk from my work I can see the building. So I can go in and BF her at lunch time, it is also a brand new nursery so she is getting excellent attention whilst they build up their numbers. She couldnt give a toss when I leave her so I am considering nipping her next time . but actually it is working out great.

whinegums · 14/03/2008 10:20

Hi GMM, Newcastle originally, would that be your neck of the woods too, your name gives it away a bit?!

Ellesbelles, we went to Behar yesterday, and got a good deal on a wool carpet that was half price. They had quite a few room sized remnants too, if you measure up the room and take a plan you might get a bargain (we saw one but it was about 30cm too short for us - gah!). Anyway, we were in and out in 30 mins, and it's being fitted on Tuesday, so that was a result.

Vio good luck with the walk.

Lula9 we have a Scottish thread on the antenatal board if you haven't already seen it.

geordiemacminx · 14/03/2008 10:40

I'm originally from chester-le-street but my dads family all live in Blaydon. There is another exiled geordie on here too - nippersnappers

whinegums · 15/03/2008 16:20

GMM - ah Chesta!!! Know it well, my mum lives there! Don't know Blaydon though. I usually get back home quite often, expecting that to stop over the next few months though. Going down for Easter next week, and can't wait!

geordiemacminx · 15/03/2008 18:55

I'm going back for easter too - thursday to saturday! Its a small world!
