My mum just arrived and let herself in. Apparenty DS rang her whilst I was in the shower and didn;t hang up so she couldn't call back to check I was OK. She arrived thinking I had fallen down the stairs and instructed DS to call (he's not actually smart enough yet to understand numbers!)

Better than the police I guess.

Hmm SFX - you and me both on many of those points! Well, will approach it with a positive attitude and hope for the best! In the meantime off out for a lunchtime shopping expedition (one of the joys of working) - for one of the last times!

sfxmum · 25/10/2007 12:55

Kewcumber that sounds a lot like pregnancy to me very familiar with a lot of what you describe.
I felt that dd's 1st birthday was very much an intimate celebration of fully realising we were a family and we made it relatively unscathed to that day

Kewcumber · 25/10/2007 13:06

sfx there were times when I thought our one year anniversary should be a celebration of both of us making it through alive

OP posts:
sfxmum · 25/10/2007 13:12

yep that is exactly the feelingleaves you all warm and fuzzy

Kewcumber · 25/10/2007 13:17

there were times, cooped up in that awful flat in almaty when I used to think that one of us wasn't going to make it out alive! Now I think it really wasn't that bad at all... think I will dig out a photo of that flat and add to my prfoile for memory sake for a few days!

OP posts:
demonaid · 25/10/2007 13:21

You could always see if the flat was available to hire for this Christmas so that you could go back and stay in it. For the sake of nostalgia and all that...

Kewcumber · 25/10/2007 13:35

ah but only if you'd accompany me Demon (new name seems strangely appropriate). Photos added for horror/halloween purtopses as well as nostalgia.

Actually it is just like labour, it really doesn't seem so bad and I would appreciate the whole experience so much more now I know how it worked out!

Terribly sorry, I'm washing my hair that month...

rosmonster · 25/10/2007 14:18

hello all, am feeling very refreshed after my apparently decadent night last night!

Have been to Tumbletots this morning and think we might just stay in again this afternoon. I might try doing some baking with ds, see how that goes

Kewcumber · 25/10/2007 14:23

demon - fresh mountian air is very good for pregnant women.

Ros - I can;t imagine getting DS to stay still long enough to cook!

Steppy - have you got verbal diarreah?

Am around Saturday - give me a text. Lil Sis coming for lunch but that's not a problem. DS1 has been asking me repeatedly about his robots guns and asking me to call you about them several times a day!!

rosmonster · 25/10/2007 14:32

well kew, that is going to be the challenge esp as he's going to have to stand on a chair, I can see disaster looming...

sfxmum · 25/10/2007 14:35

re baking we use a low table part of her cube high chair and we pre weigh everything before hand and place it in bowls so that dd can tip in mixing bowl

good luck it is messy

SJ99 · 25/10/2007 14:37

Hello all

QC - nice sentiment having a family day to celebrate DS's adoption

Hello Anna, I'm in Twickenham not far from you with 23mth old DS. Lots of really good playgroups in this area when your DD is ready for them. Plus fab coffee shops and Tddington pool is great for baby/toddler swim.

Haunted - congrats on your pregnancy Sorry to hear about pending redundnacy. I'm SAHM and like SFX have some loose structure to the day. I like to go out everyday even if it is just for a walk just for the change of scenery and fresh air. Helps keep me sane and sometimes easier to entertain DS out of the home. We usually do a morning or afternoon 'activity' (playgroup, parks, meet ups, drawing etc). I love that each day is different and you can have a lot of fun even though it is generally exhausting.

SJ99 · 25/10/2007 14:39

Not tried baking with DS mainly for reason QC stated and mess. Would also ahve to bake something egg free due to DS allergy. Let us know how you get on Ros

demonaid · 25/10/2007 14:45

We've done gingerbread men, and pancakes. And SIL made spaghetti ("bisketti" according to DS) from scratch with him at the weekend. He manages fairly well, all things considered (but is a bit older than most of yours... though we've been making gingerbread men for a while). Gingerbread men recipe and photo of our first attempt is on my Facebook profile, by the way...

SJ99 · 25/10/2007 14:55

Oooh gingerbread men, what a good idea. DS had his 1st one at Ros's and liked it
Might try that next week on a rainy day

SJ99 · 25/10/2007 14:55

Just noticed the Halloween icons, cool

Kewcumber · 25/10/2007 15:01

Forgot to mention we went and had a look at a nursery today which ticked all the boxes and the people seemed really friendly. My only concern that when it's full there are 26 kids and it wasn't a massive indoor space, could get a bit cramped maybe. Haven't been to any other nurseries to campare...They said carer/pupil ratio was 8 to 1, is that normal?

SJ99 · 25/10/2007 15:02

I meant the emoticons wearing the witches hats

stepfordwife · 25/10/2007 15:07

foxie,
verbal diarrhoea..moi?
blimey, do you think ds1 will be fobbed off with one robot gun????
was even looking in woollies convinced you must haver bought it from there..

SushiMummy · 25/10/2007 15:15

SJ, 1:8? That's quite high. Mine is 1:3 up to the age of two, then 1:4.

SushiMummy · 25/10/2007 15:17

Oh, in fact, between ages of 3 to 5, it IS one to eight. So if you are referring to pre-school classes, then it's right.

SJ99 · 25/10/2007 15:19

Thanks Sushi for info, yes I thought 1:8 was high for toddlers but they all did seem really happy and well behaved(!).

Will line up some more visits just to get a feel for these places.
