Hello, just did a very quick check of this and here you all are!
Bonniej and myself are from Blackpool and Thornton and we meet on a Thursday morning at Stanley park soft play area. If any of you fancy it with your little ones we would love to meet up with you.
I will keep checking up for replies from you all.

bonniej · 28/01/2005 14:29

Just bumping this back up. kiarra & zeldagirl, are you still about as it'd be great to meet you. We would love to have a proper 'mumsnet meet-up' in the area. Nikkim, still waiting to arrange a day with you

Donbean · 31/01/2005 19:40

Ok well im sure we can sort something out between us. Im seeing Bonnie on Thursday so can arrange something. Whats best for you? Unfortunately weekends are out cos i work and Bonnies hubby is off so they go out....anything else?

sansouci · 31/01/2005 19:47

You're probably going to ignore me but my mummy is from Blackpool. She & my grandparents left just after the war for Canada. Mummy took me to Blackpool to meet her best friend when I was 6 and I remember the beach, the donkeys, the rock and being on stage. I had a wonderful time but all I ever hear about the place is how naff it is! Tell me more about Blackpool, good things please. (Dh is from Taunton; he's never been to Blackpool & has no particular desire to go, either).

sansouci · 31/01/2005 19:49

Does Rectory Road still exist?

Donbean · 01/02/2005 15:36

Im from outside of Blackpool and i go into the town centre there occasionaly.
In summer it is fab, the surrounding areas are great for kids. St Annes sand hills are lovely for picnics and fleetwood sea front is wonderful.
Blackpool now is unfortunately renouned for the tacky night clubs, hen and stag weekends, drugs and drink problems.
We have the lake district up the motorway and we are about an hour away from Manchester.
We have wonderful country side surrounding us and lovely places for walks.
From my house you can look out of the bedroom window and see fields with sheep in and a duck pond with ducks and moorhens mooching around and i am literally 10 minuits from Blackpool.
Blackpool its self is no different to any other town or city in England with its built up problem areas.
There are rows and rows of bed and breakfast accomodation as well as the big hotels, there are donkeys on the beach and of course there is rock galore. There is something to do at every turn and is the epitomy of "entertainment" for all ages.
I do believe that Rectory road does still exsist yes!
Im glad you have nice memories of Blackpool, it really is a treasure trove for children!

sansouci · 01/02/2005 20:31

Thank you, Donbean. I had a great time when I was little. Dismayed when I grew up to be told that Blackpool was apparently "not a place you admitted you came from". Tough!

Donbean · 01/02/2005 21:20

Well i have no problem admitting that im from Blackpool! I was born there, work there and live just outside there AND i have had my baby there....so there...

tangerinecath · 01/02/2005 21:54

Just dropped by to say, I'm from Blackpool too, and I'm not ashamed to admit it either! I don't live there any more but my Mum still lives in South Shore.

I got married there in 2003, my reception was in a hotel near the pleasure beach, so we all went for a ride on the Big One dressed in all our finery . No one will forget my wedding in a hurry!

sansouci · 01/02/2005 22:06

My Nana and Grandad were both born there and met when she was 16 at a dance. As the story goes, Grandad was struck by Nana's gorgeous looks and said to one of his mates, while pointing out Nana, "That girl there's a peach!" "A peach!" his friend exclaimed, "That's no peach, that's our Kid!" I love their stories of life before, during and after the war. Sadly, they're gone now but I will always feel a link with Blackpool because my beloved grandparents came from there.

Donbean · 02/02/2005 12:30

I must say its nice to hear from someone else with nice things to say about Blackpool. It cant be that bad there are millions of visitors here every year.
big one in your wedding tackle, i like it!

chatee · 02/02/2005 12:58

i'm coming to blackpool at half term and my dd is sooooo excited....
can you reccomend any good places for us to go and visit please?
we already have planned:the tower, a trip on a tram, the waterworld swim place,
we are 2 mums with a dd age6, ds age5 ds age 11 months and a dd age4.5 with cerebral palsy so has problems with mobility but will give everything a good go just like the others....
looking forward to hearing from you...thanks

nikkim · 02/02/2005 17:49

my daughter loves the sealife centre. We have a zoo although I ahve to admit that I don't reaally likie it as I don't think the animals look very happy and the cafe is dreadful, ahving said that my dd loves it there. Stanley park is good, it now has a lovely cafe although you need the weather. Kids do like the sandcastle, that is the swimming pool with all the slides and they all love the tower especially jugle jims. It may be worth checking what is on at the theatre as there is quite a lot on for kids at the moment and it is very reasonable.

chatee · 02/02/2005 19:40

thanks nikkim,
what's the theatre called?
a show would be ideal...
is jungle jims a play area in the tower? how much is it?
thanks for your help

nikkim · 03/02/2005 14:27

the theatre is the grand it has a website.

Jungle Jims is in the tower and is included in your admission which I think is about a fiver but I am not sure.

Donbean · 04/02/2005 11:40

Donbean · 04/02/2005 18:18
