In the middle of the night my DD often wakes up and recites the names of people she knows and uses her latest 'new' words so we get things like "Amy's got tummybutton, Lara's got tummybutton, Grandma's got tummybutton...." It can go on for ages!

foxcub · 18/07/2007 21:57

Mellow - DS1 may be learning Mandarin next term at school so he can chat with your DD about food

Kew - No its just yours what is strange!

Paddle - good luck with the Financial bod person

Anyone else up for a picnic on Thursday if its fine.

foxcub · 18/07/2007 21:59

Ele what do you mean "work out with me?"

Ele has a tummy button, Kew has a tummy button, Mellow has a tummy button, Paddle has a tummy button, ...

ComeOVeneer · 18/07/2007 22:06

Sorry Ele,I asked wehter I should start a thread, I was trying to gauge if people where up for that date , and didn't get much response, hence not started the thread but will do so now.

eleusis · 18/07/2007 22:11

You have to lead, COV, if you want people to follow. Make an executive decision and we will show up with bottles of wine (and drink them).

I could bring margarita ingredients if we want to do that again as well. In fact, Kew, have you still got the Cointreau?

eleusis · 18/07/2007 22:13

Foxie, Amida and I discussed on another thread that she and I could go to the gym (we belong to the same one) and then go to the party.

ComeOVeneer · 18/07/2007 22:15

Thread started. You can bring your delicious margheritas most certainly. Will make sure I make loads of ice.

mellow2 · 18/07/2007 22:27

COV's 11 Aug meet up thread

OP posts:
mellow2 · 18/07/2007 22:29

Foxie,

Are the Mandarin classes elective? Is it nationwide or is it only your ds's school? Do you know why they are doing it?

So many questions . . .

OP posts:
eleusis · 18/07/2007 22:29

oops, I think I stated the "aug" thing. It is Sept. 11.... eeek, I hate that day.

ComeOVeneer · 18/07/2007 22:30

Thanks mellow. I had just come back to post that I should add a link

ComeOVeneer · 18/07/2007 22:31

Oh pants it is meant to be AUGUST 11th NOT SEPTEMBER. Will start another thread and get MN to delete the first one.

eleusis · 18/07/2007 22:33

In that case I retract admission of typo.

StarryStarryNight · 18/07/2007 22:35

My son (reception class) has had Mandarin chinese as after school club this term, but as it is voluntary, and at the end of the school day, he hasnt really learnt anything beyond Ni-hao or something.....

StarryStarryNight · 18/07/2007 22:36

That was directed at MELLOW

ComeOVeneer · 18/07/2007 22:36

meet up at cov's 11th AUGUST

mellow2 · 18/07/2007 22:44

Starry Night,

It seems a bit futile if they don't get a chance to practise it. I could probably make a quick buck and charge for Mandarin conversation classes with primary school students.

I spoke bad Cantonese in Malaysia and learnt to speak fluent Cantonese in Hong Kong, Yet, these days, I can't really speak more than 2 sentences without tripping myself up these days as I am not speaking it regularly.

OP posts:
mellow2 · 18/07/2007 22:47

Also bad punctuation.

OP posts:
StarryStarryNight · 18/07/2007 22:50

Mellow, I think it is not just the language, but art and culture, and dance and different things. Also, parents are always desperate for after school clubs!

mellow2 · 18/07/2007 22:54

Wow, that's quite good. When did the Chinese language and culture become so popular?

I was thinking of sending dd to a Chinese school on weekends. Maybe she could just attend an after-school club.

BTW, thanks everyone for visting my site and bumping up the traffic figures.

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 18/07/2007 23:03

sorry Mellow getting a bit confused now - where did you say you became fluent at bad punctuation?

And didn't you ntoice becoming cool dand trendy? You were obviously looking the other way when it happened. I'm waiting for Welsh to take off in afetr school clubs when I will swoop in and make my fortune - mwah ha ha ha haaaa

StarryStarryNight · 18/07/2007 23:18

Mellow, they say we have to start preparing our kids for the future early. China is the factory of the world, and we need Mandarin and cultural understanding to conduct business and trade effectively.

It is called Chinese Dragons Club.

mellow2 · 18/07/2007 23:49

You might have given me an idea there, QC.

I did read that they were proposing schools teach Chinese. I thought it was just talk. I didn't realise it was actually happening.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 19/07/2007 09:19

morning all

we off to Kew as soon as possible, pardon my current obsession with the weather but the forecast is for bucket loads of rain tomorrow all day long, might as well make the most of today

again hi to newbies not sure if i missed anyone

Kewcumber · 19/07/2007 09:59

free world music festival in Kew 18/19 August. (free ie except for Kew entry if you are a payer).

SFX if you go to Kew today could you find out what time it starts and finishes each day. I quite fancy a late afternoon/evening picnic in Kew on the Sat if anyone else is up for it.
