Lovely part of the world, almost tropical. Wish I lived there!

Loving it- Rain has been terrible hasn't it. Children settled into school & playgroup. Yes I'd do a mile for maud.

spudmasher · 09/02/2007 20:50

TheOriginal- OMG that's where I grew up - live elsewhere now.Did you grow up there or moved to Wadebridge? I get v.homesick. Bet we went to school together!!! My eldest is 8......i was in Wadebridge comp....

TheOriginalXENA · 09/02/2007 21:07

Moved to wadebridge- the children are at wadebridge cp, and will go on to the secondary (they are both on the same site now.) Are you still in cornwall?

spudmasher · 09/02/2007 21:12

My nephew goes to Wadebridge CP!!!No longer in Cornwall but we visit whenever we can. My M and d and bro are all there, so we get fab holidays in the summer and easter etc. It must be one of the best places to bring up kids in the world. My pair love it and want to live there. I have to admit though at age 16 I couldn't wait to escape. I think things are diffeent there now though. My god, look at how wadebridge has changed over the past few years!!

TheOriginalXENA · 10/02/2007 22:34

DH went down to the town this evening, he said it was packed. I'm sure when the dc's get older we will need to be even more a taxi service than if we'd stayed in london. They absolutly love it atm. My mil said that the children will go to college and then not come back to cornwall, but tbh she lives in London and had 5 children, 1 lives close, 2 live about 2hr drive away and Dh's twin lives in scotland- so staying in London wouldn't have meant they'd stay close.
As you do, I would be happy if they come back for a holiday each year.

spudmasher · 11/02/2007 08:50

I think there is a lot more on offer in Cornwall now compared to 20 years ago. There was not even a university and no job prospects at all.

I think there are still some economic problems in Cornwall but on the whole it is a lot better.

So many people are moving there now! I could not believe the house prices! They are very close to London prices - more in places like Padstow and Rock!

How have the locals accepted you? Have you made lots of friends? I would love a meet up in the summer as my kids don't have many friends down there and get bored playing with each other. Are you lot going to do the mile for Maude?

TheOriginalXENA · 11/02/2007 20:25

It would be great to do a meet up in the summer. The house prices were a suprise to us, we were expecting to be able to match our house for less, but unless you want a new estate house then they are more expensive. The wages are very low average of about 14k so most people rent, obv market is pushed up by second homes. We are lucky in that DH has got a good job in launceston. Friends are so much easier to make here than in london as people are so much more friendly.
Would still be up for a mile for maud

spudmasher · 12/02/2007 16:31

Great! I will look out for you on here closer to the summer. We are going down as soon as school breaks up in London so we can get there for the carnival - my kids love dressing up!Hugely embarassing for me though Would you be up for a summer meet up too Kitty?

kittypants · 12/02/2007 21:06

I'm here too! - Probus. Moved in August from Hampshire , which was also a lovely place to live. Had a good lot of friends there and I've found it more difficult here to meet people - just because distances between people are greater and have missed going in at reception in this school, which is obviously where everyone is more open to meeting other people. Still I think it will be a good move in the long run. I have DS aged 9, DD1 8 and DD2 aged 6.

Mandymoo · 20/02/2007 19:05

sounds like there are a few of us around in sunny Cornwall!

How about meeting somewhere like Truro? Buses and trains are pretty good around there!

Mandymoo · 22/02/2007 19:18
