Posted this on the other thread before I realised you had moved here

I would love to come but, coming from the South East coast would be a nightmare, I don't drive so would rely on either train or coach both of which have to go into London first, also I have never camped as I suspect lots of MNers haven't so buying all the equiptment I would need to do this would just be silly (and I would have to carry it all on public transport with me).

I think its lovely for people to step up and try and organise this (I don't think I would be brave enough) but I do think that a conference hall/hotel would be better then everything is done for you and the costs can be pretty low (depending on how many go).

Good luck trying to organise I don't envy you

Ooh! Is this camping in Newbury! Sounds great.

Rhubarb · 20/11/2006 20:33

Would love to go, but can't do the South. Too far.

MrsDoolittle · 20/11/2006 21:00

How far North would we have to go Rhubarb?

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 20/11/2006 21:06

Dh reckons we wouldn't be able to camp on the green as there are no ablution (love that word) facilities. There is a campsite 5 miles away.

So lets say we arranged it at the village hall. There are two pubs in the village too.
The options would be to stay at the Travel lodge, or expensive hotel or camp 5 miles away.

Dh thinks it's mad and wouldn't work. We would have to do one or the other and not many would come. What do you think???

What do you reckon?

Oi, Rhubarb. How far north do we have to go? Oxford? Cambridgeshire? Yorkshire?

Tortington · 21/11/2006 09:10

can somone give me the low down.

so far i have gathered its amping in londonish

are you planning n bringing children?

Uwilalalalalala · 21/11/2006 09:27

Newbury (about an hour west of London). Possibly camping. Possibly posh expensive hotel. Possibly travelodge.

Children? Hell no!

I don't think anything is set in stone so discussion welcome.

Tortington · 21/11/2006 10:01

cool - no kids - might come then

Rhubarb · 21/11/2006 15:10

Been following this and sorry to put the cat amongst the pigeons so to speak, but why do these things always have to be down South? Would it not be much fairer to have one slap bang in the middle of the country, say Leeds? Where there are good motorways and rail links for everyone?

It's just that we seem to be split into North and South groups and it would be nice to see people from both groups.

I just think it would be much fairer to give everyone an opportunity to go. I spent 12 hours travelling in total to get to London, Newbury woudl be no different and it just elimates a whole bunch of Mumsnetters. Whereas somewhere like Leeds is only 3 hours away from most people and fairly easy to get to.

YoureTheOneForMeTatties · 21/11/2006 15:33

I agree with you Rhubarb

Uwilalalalalala · 21/11/2006 15:55

What is in Leeds? Ignorant foreigner here.

TinselgalacticWalrus · 21/11/2006 16:59

I think Birmingham would be a good bet myself

Obv, the West country is an even better bet, but that's only because I'm a lazy arse who can't be arsed to drive too far

fullmoonfiend · 21/11/2006 17:24

Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!! Leeds!!!
(can you tell I live near???)

CountessDracula · 21/11/2006 17:28

could I just point out that geographically the centre of England is a small farm near the town of Fenny Drayton in Leicestershire

Maybe we should have it there!

fullmoonfiend · 21/11/2006 17:29

What a fab name! Oh let's go there

CountessDracula · 21/11/2006 17:31

CountessDracula · 21/11/2006 17:32
