So what kind of place in Brimingham?

OP posts:
TinselgalacticWalrus · 22/11/2006 11:33

Birmingham has got hotels you can stay in and everything.

I hear it on good authority they even have running water

(Plus, I was born and spent my formative years there, so tis a wonderful place)

Tortington · 22/11/2006 11:33

grim

TinselgalacticWalrus · 22/11/2006 11:34

I think that revolutiony bar would be ok.

There';s plenty of other places in the city centre as well that would be suitable (althiugh it's been about 100 years since I last went into Bham city centre)

Tortington · 22/11/2006 11:35

hey mrs doolittle i will be coming from brighton ( if i do) and after 3/4 hours in car - am figuring what another?

MrsDoolittle · 22/11/2006 11:36

custardo - what way will you go?

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 22/11/2006 11:39

From what I understand of the last meetup, it might be good to be in a bar without music so that people get a chance to talk to one another.
If we could book one of the bars then we could go dancing in a dancing room (?) after we have drunk too much to pseak coherently

Tortington · 22/11/2006 11:40

when going up to oldham i usually - nay infact always do my to brighton a23, m23, m25, m40, 42, - to brum

however would then go m6, m62, m60 -to oldham

i vote oldham

i know some great sticky carpet places.

MrsDoolittle · 22/11/2006 11:42

or here

The Revolution place looks good but it reads as if all the upstairs bits are open to the downstairs - unless the viewing bits are glassed in? I was wondering what the noise level would be like (for talking over) if they are open. Has anyone been there?

Fattymumma · 22/11/2006 11:44

Who is playing cheif planner?

could i just say that Brum is about the middle, has loads of places to stay is very good for transport and would please both northeners and southeners equally.

June 15th is about the middle of the year so is good choice and is far enough in advance that most people would be able to book that weekend.

SO

ITs Birmingham on JUne the 15th.

YOU coming or what??

MrsDoolittle · 22/11/2006 11:44

Ledodgy, I think.

OP posts:
MrsDoolittle · 22/11/2006 11:46

Are you then Fattymamma? Afterall, you started it.

I'll help if I can. But do we need someone who knows Birmingham?

OP posts:
Fattymumma · 22/11/2006 11:48

did i?? oh shite didn't realise it was my fault

errm yeah maybe someone with some local knowledge would be good as i have never been lol.

i think we are loking for either a travelodge near a nice Community hall, or better still a nice cheap hotel that has a conference hall so we could get as drunk as we liked and not have to walk to far home.

so any idea's?

whimsy · 22/11/2006 11:49

I have been to both Waxy O'Connors & Revolution

What would you like to know?

ledodgychristmasjumper · 22/11/2006 11:49

Hey how did I get to be chief planner?

ledodgychristmasjumper · 22/11/2006 11:50

Oh I see mrs d you were replkying to JanH I thought you were answering fattiemummas who's chief planner question!

ledodgychristmasjumper · 22/11/2006 11:52

I've only been the Revolution bar in L:iverpool and only on a week night as it's full of scallies at the weekend so can't comment about noise levels etc I'm sure if you hired the bar upstairs it would be ok.

MrsDoolittle · 22/11/2006 11:53

Fattymamma, I think we would need someone with lots of local knowledge to do a thing in a community hall. I could have done something similar, unfortunately Newbury doesn't suit enough people.

If we hit the big lights of Birmingham, we need a venue that is pretty well known and easy to get to. It would also be easier to organise I think.

What is the difference between Waxy's and Revolution which is noisier? which is more laid back? which has the nicer atmosphere conducive to chatting?

OP posts:
whimsy · 22/11/2006 11:59

Both of the bars you have mentioned are within staggering distance of this hotel Travel Lodge Hotel is within stunabaling distance of both said bars.

whimsy · 22/11/2006 12:00

Went a bit funny then. Sorry

Uwilalalalalala · 22/11/2006 12:02

I think we should stay out of the night club scene this time. Lots of people came away not having talked to people they really wanted to meet. It was too dark, too crowded, too loud -- oh yes and we were all too drunk.

Do you think we could decsend on an unsuspecting pub? Possbily one that serves good food.

Oh, and I'll go just about anywhere so long as it is in England, Scotland, or Wales.

MrsDoolittle · 22/11/2006 12:05

Whimsy, do you think Waxy's would suit Uwila?

OP posts:
whimsy · 22/11/2006 12:08
Hmm
whimsy · 22/11/2006 12:09

Can't see why not.
Understand about the club scene though. You could always go into the Weatherspoons pub, they don't play music at all
