I thought we could do the 'stars in their eyes' thing

Sorry, but I think train connections are vital to many people. Is Leeds out? What about York? I haven't been to Leeds, but York is nice.

MrsDoolittle · 21/11/2006 18:18

But I really really want to sing

I know Uwila.

I said that rather tongue in cheek.

I think it's going to gave to be Birmingham.

Am I the only one sitting here rolling their eyes at the way these big thread meet ups always seem to go?? It will probably all come to nothing now. We need custys style of 'its here - you coming or what?'. Not saying that it is right that its always in the south you understand although I would prefer it.

TinselgalacticWalrus · 21/11/2006 20:02

Birmingham has good road and rail links to everywhere, so I reckon that would be a good one.

I bet it ends up being in London again.

niceglasses · 21/11/2006 20:04

I'm only coming if you have it in Newcastle. So central, so sunny, so full of lovely northerners, so come.

SpaceCadet · 21/11/2006 20:05

why dont you all come to north wales??..or chester!

Rhubarb · 21/11/2006 20:05

I just think that it's about time we had a central Mumsnet meet-up that everyone had a chance of getting to. Ok, we could have separate ones again in the North and South, but it would be nice to be able to meet EVERYONE not just those in your area.

I suggested Leeds not because I know it, but because there are good rail links to Leeds and motorways which are vital for Mumsnetters travelling from afar.

I don't mind looking into it all and booking some kind of conference venue. Or Birmingham? That has good transport links too.

It's just a thought. But if the majority want a Southern meet-up then I'm afraid I'm out.

Flossam · 21/11/2006 20:05

IGW I was CI on the other thread. I'll come with you to London and I do know my way round fairly well - just not in a car!

Flossam · 21/11/2006 20:07

Birmingham is central. Tis the furthest I would go does seem fairest on balance.

TinselgalacticWalrus · 21/11/2006 20:10

Oooh, I wouldn't drive to London. The thought fills me with horror!

I have a great fear of London anyway, snce my C^&t of an XP made me find my way from Victoria to his house in Burnt Oak at 11pm, when I was still a Big Smoke Virgin. That's why he's an XP!

Flossam · 21/11/2006 20:13

Thats fine then - cause I know the tubes well. I would look after you . I didn't know you were called something else before (what do I know though!) Who were you?!! And have you recovered from your delightful 2 yr old visitor yet?

JanH · 21/11/2006 20:17

The centre of the UK is at Dunsop Bridge - about 5 miles from me so I'll vote for that!

Alternatively Leeds would be brill, it's a nice city, good road and rail connections (and on the cheap and reliable east coast line rather than beardy Branson's crappy Virgin one) and reasonably accessible from anywhere - even the far SW I think?

Rhubarb · 21/11/2006 20:18

Ok, so does anyone have a problem at all with Birmingham?

Forget venue for a bit, let's just agree on a place shall we? Your thoughts please!

Rhubarb · 21/11/2006 20:18

OK - Leeds or Birmingham?

What do the Southerners think?

Leeds better than Brum for both northerners and southerners (IMHO)

TinselgalacticWalrus · 21/11/2006 20:20

Hands up for Brum from me.

(My 2 year old visitor's little friend (Ie DS1!) kicked off big time and had a tantrum that lasted from just after you lefy until DP got home. Nice. KLife with a toddler eh?)

Flossam · 21/11/2006 20:23

Mine laid down and curled up on our cold tiled floor after dinner. Daddy didn't take him up to bed quick enough obviously.

TinselgalacticWalrus · 21/11/2006 20:24

lol. Mine passed out at 6 30 (2 days without naps and waking up at stupid o'clock in the morning has taken it out of him I think!)

Rhubarb · 21/11/2006 21:00

Ok, 3 people so far have said Brummie is ok with them, I make 4, any more takers?

Rhubarb · 21/11/2006 21:01

Oh sorry, JanH still going for Leeds!

JanH · 21/11/2006 21:01

(½ vote for Brum, rhuby )

TinselgalacticWalrus · 21/11/2006 21:06

Well, if noone else can be arsed to voive their opinions, I'll make the decision.

Birmingham it is.
