good morning

dd's cough was a bit nasty again last night but i think it peaked and should be getting better (fingers crossed)has anyone worked out how to give medicine to kids which does not turn into some major trauma?

PC hope your dd if better

pud - hope you better too, hate sore throat always end up having earache too

now that was a cheerful post

mellowchristmas · 29/11/2006 08:45

foxie,
Thanks for the contact details. I'll pass them on to dh.

2quokkasandapeartree · 29/11/2006 08:49

I would have called him straight away, but then again I've never had any problems and he's fixed about 4 different things for me. I can't see any harm in calling him, but I can imagine him wanting to fix it rather than give money back?

First defence from vicks is good for a cold, stops it getting worse Uwila put me onto it.

Paddlechick666 · 29/11/2006 10:07

sfx, syringe works great with my dd. straight into the cheek or back of tongue and it goes down okay. try medi-sed, it really helped dd last week and she slept great!

got sore throat too ;-(

foxie, did you still want my nanny's builder's number? prob not as you sound like you're sorted but let me know.

wrong thread but my mother is making flapjacks as we speak!

Paddlechick666 · 29/11/2006 10:10

advice wanted on the following:

an ex boyfriend just (group) emailed for first time in probably a year or two.

he's off to Thailand for a month, says he's got a great job and is about to take on a mortgage.

i loaned him about $600 aus about 5 years ago which he always promised to pay back but never did.

should i send him a sarcastic email?

Uwila · 29/11/2006 10:27

I think so... but wait for others to respond so it isn't all my fault if it's a bad idea. But, I think that any e-mail which might have a return of a few hundred quid is worth sending.

Paddlechick666 · 29/11/2006 10:31

i still don't think i'll get it tbh! he's a bit of a shyster (my great taste in men LOL!)

was thinking more of just naming and shaming along the lines of "great to hear that you're doing so well, holidays and houses. Any chance of seeing a red cent of the money I loaned ya.... ever, at all, in my lifetime?"

Good Karma Man!

He's a vegan, homeopath student (might be qualified now but doubt it), goes to India on retreat etc etc etc

am feeling a little vindictive

sfxmum · 29/11/2006 10:43

PC i would be far more direct
just before you set off don't forget to clear your debts, the one to me is X£'s thank you best of luck in your future life

Uwila · 29/11/2006 10:47

Or

"... Please remember to make the cheque out to my married name"

harktheheraldfoxessing · 29/11/2006 12:16

I wish I could afford to go and live a hippu-y life. I'd love to be able to take some time out to "find myslef" rather than having to work and pay taxes [very sarcastic looking emoticon]

PC I'd be direct too - send a group e-mail saying. Hi sanadso, great to hear you are doing so well and setinling down after all your adventures.

BTW you still owe me £* and I really need it back as I have a young baby now. Would you prefer to send a cheque or bank draft?

sfx - I use the syringe method too. I admit that when it comes to either adminisering medicine or brushing teeth, I use coaxing and if that doesn't work, a suejonez like head lock does

In Morocco DD wouldn't take her vile tasting anti-biotics, so we agreed that if she took them, she could have half a spoon of Calpol after each one, or another treat. But I have resorted to headlocks and syringe too I'm afraid, followed by mega cuddling session.

sfxmum · 29/11/2006 12:40

oh yes the syringe and headlock method! we follow that cue screams and hurt look
maybe should go for caramel syrup like my mum used to do, at least dd likes brushing her teeth many times a day if we let her (then again maybe not)

Paddlechick666 · 29/11/2006 13:03

lol, group email would be good!

i'm torn tbh, coz i don't really want to get back in touch with him anyway. he thinks he's god's gift and it would only fan the flames of his love affair with himself! you can tell how arrogant he is to be emailing me now but the insight of that is that, after 5 years he's still got an embarrassingly small email distro and they're all women!

more advice and it'll have to be quick: got last minute hair appt at Vertigo in St Margarets. Hope they're good! Shall I go dark brown/chestnut? Or keep the blonde but tone it down a bit?

or, cancel the appt and go back to bed whilst mother cares for dd?

sfxmum · 29/11/2006 13:27

guess it is late but an hair appointment always good for a treat for me, i go every 7 to 8 wks, my hairdresser knows not to chat too much and gets a tip for it (expressly said that on first appointment)
i just do foils can't be doing with full colour not until i get more gray

right must get my monkey to nap, she suggested bed about an hour ago but it turns out it was just for her cuddly rabbits

MrsBojangles · 29/11/2006 13:55

PC did you go to have your hair done? It always cheers me up no end, but I only go about every 6 months or so . Carefull when going darker (not sure whether you are a natural blonde) because if they do it to 'even' it can be quite heavy if that makes sense. I die my hair myself but haven't in a while

mellowchristmas · 29/11/2006 14:03

sfx,
How do you tell hairdressers not to chat too much? [admiring emoticon] I must admit it takes me quite a few appointments to feel I know the hairdresser well enough to chat so generally I just sit there and utter monosyllabic answers.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 29/11/2006 14:20

I hate those inane hairdresser conversaions LOL!

"Where are you going on holiday this year?" blah blah

PC I like you blonde 'cos you look like a natural blonde and there aren't many around. (ooops hope pabdle hasn't gone brunette and will be offended }

sfxmum · 29/11/2006 14:26

i am just rude i thinkno really i like a good conversation to start with so we establish what i like/want and a bit of life small chat catch up. but i do say i like to relax and drift off, some get it some don't.
when they do i tell them so when i tip 'thank you for the quiet relaxing time' or something to that effect. if they don't i don't tip and don't go back.

i had one whom i kept for 6yrs and now this one since the start of the year.
just can't be doing with talk of holidays and their night out or lovelife

pudding77 · 29/11/2006 14:31

My hairdresser is pretty good as he doesn't constantly talk or ask questions, just bits now and then. I hate it when they try to talk to you whilst drying your hair at full blast so you can never hear them properly!!

MrsBojangles · 29/11/2006 14:43

I just have a quick moan about sleep less nights thanks to ds, take my glasses off and close my eyes LOL usually does the trick

mellowchristmas · 29/11/2006 16:43

Good tips! sfx and MrsB. I just go to a Japanese hairdresser. I don't speak Japanese and he doesn't speak much English.

hoxohoxohoxo · 29/11/2006 17:41

at the hairdressers I just pick up the crappy magazines (the expensive ones I would nevcer buy for myself) and say 'you don't mind if I read these do you. With 2 young kids I never get any quiet time to myself. I need to find out how Jen and Brad are faring these days '. They always get the hint.
If they don't at the start, I just nod and read teh magazine until they shut up.

I used to hate it when they gave those shitsu head massages, found it really cringy. Now I love it and almost fall asleep

Now I'm almost all grey (well, 50%) I use those diy sets from Boots; can't afford the top ups at £100 a pop. My boots advantage points are always spent on me, me, me

Paddlechick666 · 29/11/2006 18:59

evening all.

well i did go to the hairdresser altho i felt a hag and nearly slept all the way thru.

lucky for me the hairdresser said "i'll be a bit quiet" before i could! topped up with "i'm exhausted, my dd kept me up all night" meant for a peaceful time!

so, the colour! well, i have gone a little darker but nothing too severe. i love the colour and it still looks natural.

thanks for the lovely compliment sfx, as i believe i should've been a natural blonde it's good to hear i have managed to create something natural looking.

so still blonde, but not so bright iyswim........

;-)

sfxmum · 29/11/2006 19:09

can't take praise since foxie was the one that said that. but blonde does siut youbut i feel a warmer colour will work too

harktheheraldfoxessing · 29/11/2006 19:20

Oxo I love those head massages!!!

Can't wait to see your new mop paddle

Paddlechick666 · 29/11/2006 21:19

oops! soz Foxie/sfx, have to speed read the posts when mother staying.

am sure she goes home and says things like "poor little girl, all her mother does is sit in front of that computer!!

bed soon...........
