scared for life he will be I tell ya so will dd because another thread if and when she's about to break things 'if you break xyz then we have to sell some of your toys to pay for a replacement' . Might as well teach her the value of things from a very young age in a form she understands it 'hehehehehe'

harktheheraldfoxessing · 24/11/2006 18:34

Puds - you just have to find their achilles heel, usually its toys and treats!! (Bad Mothering Tip No 1 )

Does anyone know how to copy a DVD? A MN friend sent me a DVD of her home birth and I want to copy it to send to another MNer, but don't have the facilities.

Would be grateful for any advice or offers of help

Paddlechick666 · 24/11/2006 19:55

foxie, i can copy a dvd for you. text if you want to sort it out or i'll bring my lappy to yours next week at the bookworm meet.

;-)

snowmum · 24/11/2006 21:02

Have to 'fess up, I do bribe DD with food! Does that make me a bad mother or a sneaky one??!

Been having a frustrating week. Trying to get Sky installed but encountering probs as we live in a terrace, the dish needs to go at the front and the tv is at the back. Engineers refused to chuck the cable over the roof and I don't want it running thru the house. Stalemate. Toying with getting cable instead but not sure if Richmond has access to cable. Any views?

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. Think we may have to brave shopping in Kingston [shudder emoticon]. Xmas is fast approaching and I have nothing organised....

sfxmum · 24/11/2006 21:12

hi snowmum we have sky but it is limited {no sky+) because we have a comunal satelite dish.
before we moved we used to have cable, Telewest and they were very good. i believe quite a lot of Richmond is well covered by cable but can't help you more than that, sorry

was in Kingston last weekend not hugely busy but it can only get wort, used to love all that just before Christmas but not with a small childhappy shopping

harktheheraldfoxessing · 24/11/2006 21:37

Sfx and snow - ditto - I used to enjoy the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping until I had the monsters. I do most online now, or have to shop in my lunch hour at work (aaahh, peace )

PC - oooh yes please, please, please. Do you want to bring your laptop or is it easier for me to pop over to you and drop it off? [extremely grateful emoticon}.

pudding77 · 25/11/2006 07:33

Quiet last night!

Anyone have any ideas on how to stop ds from waking up at 5am? Normally I'd leave him and he'd chat for a bit then go back to sleep but not recently. I went in this morning to try and settle him back down but that made it worse as he then cried when I left the room! Any help/tips/suggestions gratefully received!

harktheheraldfoxessing · 25/11/2006 07:34

Its very quiet on here

pudding77 · 25/11/2006 08:46

morning foxie, guess everyone else has more of a life

harktheheraldfoxessing · 25/11/2006 08:51

Puds - hey, don't rub it in please!!

In response to your DS waking at 5am, if it was me, I'd crawl into the bed and snooze next to him!

But then perhaps that's why I still have DD 3 in our bed!!

sfxmum · 25/11/2006 08:53

hi there wish i was still in bed!
dh seemed fast asleep when dd started on her 'i am ready for my day thank you' so i dragged myself out of bed to let him have a lie in, well, 15 min later he is up saying that he can't really sleep although he is really tired i am really peeved!

pud - not much advice since our situation is different, dd sleeps in our room so when she was on 5am wake up i used to bf and we would both drift off until about 7.30. it is very tiring i hope you are taking turns

sfxmum · 25/11/2006 09:00

ok that sounds mean but we have an agreement that we each have a lie in at the weekend on alternate days. now he will mop around all day saying how tired he is! rant over, sorry

anyhow distracted old me never noticed that Christmas appeal thing until this morning! clearly not mumsnetting properly

pudding77 · 25/11/2006 09:03

I'm sorry foxie!

I think part of it is he's adjusted to the clocks going back & he's teething as well. Guess I'll just have to wait it out. Although he's happy and chatting away I feel cruel leaving him there for a hour until I'm ready to get up!

Sfx, I wish we could take turns but my dh is working all hours at the minute and rarely gets to bed before 2am so he really needs sleep on a weekend! But he will take ds for a walk later so I'll have a long bath or nap then!

pudding77 · 25/11/2006 09:05

Sfx, we used to do the alternate lie-ins but I'd have to wake up anyway to get dh up as he'd just sleep through it! And then when ds would go down for his nap, dh would come back to bed which would wake me up again! I decided in the end it wasn't worth it!

Paddlechick666 · 25/11/2006 09:06

foxie, i've got dvds so no need to supply. if you want to drop it round before next week that's fine. am sure it won't be tricky but if i have it in advance then i can concentrate on it properly when dd is in bed.

we had sky and they did run the cable over the back but we had to book a special installation. we're on telewest now and they're fine. go to their website and put your postcode in and you'll find out if they're in your area.

don't get me started on the sleep issue. dd is sleeping really well till midnight-ish and after that she's a nightmare.

i know it's the cough/cold that she's got but i'm reluctant to just keep shovelling medi-sed down her. especially as her temp is not high. so tired tho........... fell asleep at 9pm on sofa last night!

mind you, 2 large glasses of wine may have had some effect LOL!

sfxmum · 25/11/2006 09:19

a lot of the issues sound very familiar i guess we all go through it at one time or another. trouble is when you are on a rough patch it is hard to have perspective that is a phase and this too will pass.

dd is noe using everyday conversational expressions often out of context like
'oh sorry' - 'i see' - 'how are you?' all very funny

harktheheraldfoxessing · 25/11/2006 09:20

PC - do you want to text me your address and I will try and pop it through your door over the weekend?

You are a star BTW!!

The trouble with DH and I is that he can just go back to sleep immediately and I can never get back to sleep once woken . He woke me at 5.30am this morning

Paddlechick666 · 25/11/2006 09:47

done!

not a star until i've done it LOL! have copied dvds from the handycam before so am pretty confident i can do it for you!

;-)

Hello strangers. Haven't been on for a while so I've no idea what's going on. What was the thread for the Christmas do? Secondly, has anything been planned yet re: The Christmas festival at Kew?

Hope everyone is well. I can't get rid of this blasted fluey type thing!!! It's been two feckin weeks! (sorry, just feeling grotty).

Be warned when thinking about going to Kingston. It took me an hour to get parking yesterday because it was THAT busy. So much for thinking a week day wouldn't be busy.

hoxohoxohoxo · 25/11/2006 13:22

hello
gosh it's quiet - almost an echo here it's so empty

crap rainy day, TG for TV. What did people do pre-TV? We don't have a piano and I'm tone deaf.

Beetle racing? radio?

ho hum, off to tidy up teh mountain of washing..

hoxohoxohoxo · 25/11/2006 13:25

Hello 2cute - long time no hear (should that be read?) hope your flu gets better

Re: christmas shopping - I do all of mine at Kew Retail Park. There's no-one who cannot be accomodated in the gap/ next/ m&s/ boots/ Mothercare well, not in my life anyway

harktheheraldfoxessing · 25/11/2006 17:34

2cute - I was warned this week about Kingston by some Ham/Kingston Mums at the school. They said its completely manic there. Think I'll stick to internet shopping

Oxo - I went to Kew Retail park today and there was a big queue of cars waiting to park - luckily we got a space, as I'm very impatient and would have just driven straight out again

I asked about the Vineyard School yesterday and the verdict was:

It used to be heavily oversubscribed and very very popular. The opening of the two new schools: Marshgate and Kew Riverside, has taken the pressure of the Vineyard so its easier to get into now. Its very mixed socially - families from Richmond Hill mansions mix with council tenants etc. DS's school is also very mixed sociallly (its a faith school) and I really like it as I want him to get a very good education, but at the same time not just be surrounded by middle class twats . A classless school (no pun intended)So it sounds pretty positive overall. When do you have to complete the application forms - this December or next year?

PC - I was about to drive down and drop the DVD today when I remembered about the match at Twickers !! Will try and get down there in the next couple of days.

Paddlechick666 · 26/11/2006 08:50

more from SJ

she really is amazing!

pudding77 · 26/11/2006 09:25

I always avoid Kingston no matter what time of year it is or day of the week!! Mainly because I have to catch the bus there and it takes nearly an hour!

Paddle - well done on dd sleeping! She may be grumpy because she's not used to sleeping that much?
