Mums in Swansea/South Wales surrounding area?

Scrolling down the calls for mothers in certain areas, I see we must be under-represented in Wales, or anti-social (no one's interested in meeting up!).

So I'm new here and wondering if there are any mothers in my area... Swansea particularly but also Neath/Port Talbot/Carmarthen, maybe Bridgend... please post back either for chat or maybe to meet up at some point...

I have a 7-month old baby boy called Ben and don't do too much in the week... baby swim is about to end, I have one friend from work off on maternity leave, too, who I meet up with once a week, and play group once a week, otherwise we're in the house!

Hello I am in Wales too - near Llantrisant. DS is nearly 2 and no2 is due in July!

manicmum · 08/04/2004 20:56

Hello. I am also in S Wales, near Blackwood. DD1 is 2.25 and DD2 is 0.25. Only moved back to area recently.

lindsay7777 · 12/04/2004 12:04

Okay, well, if you do have a meet-up somewhere then let me know and I'll come if I can! Shame there's no one out more my way-- you all seem to be Cardiff/Newport area! Maybe Swansea/W Wales isn't hi-tech enough to be surfing the Net much yet (ha,ha)...

Blackwood north of Cwmbran, manicmum?

Ah, yes, I forgot about the question as to where I am in Swansea... Three Crosses on the edge of the Gower, so not far from Bishopston, really, and that will be one of Ben's options for secondary school (along with Gowerton) when he gets that far! How long did you live in Bishopston and what age were you?

I live in Ammanford. Been here about a year, from Cornwall originally, and I still don't know many people so I'd love to meet up. DS is 2 in 2 weeks and dd is 6 weeks old.

jac34 · 12/04/2004 18:46

Hi all,
I live in Cardiff and as Bron said, we have had a couple of Meet-ups already. There weren't many of us though, I think we only had 4 each time.
I would be interested in doing another, especially as there seems to be a few more now !!!
Sorry I'm not in the Swansea area Lindsay,I think Cerys is though, but have not seen her post for a while, perhaps she's changed her name.
I'm 36 and have DS twins 5yo and a stepDD 9yo, I work 3 days in the week, but I'm free Mondays,Fridays and weekends, also don't mind travelling, if needed.

Hi Happy1, glad to see there's someone relatively close by... would love to meet up sometime... you can e-mail me at [email protected] and we could arrange something. Don't mind meeting somewhere or you could come over here (don't know if you like to travel with such a young baby!).

lindsay7777 · 13/04/2004 14:50

Jac34, I'd be all up for another 'Wales' meet-up (well, not 'another' for me, it'll be a first) and don't mind if it's in Cardiff either. Let us know if you fancy organising it... I don't know what kind of places you'd arrange to meet with small children!

Mum2Ela · 14/04/2004 08:22

Just wanted to say hello! I live on the boarder of Cardiff / Newport. DD is 19 months and am 10 wks PG with no. 2!! Think I am a bit scared to attend a meet tho! x

happy1 · 14/04/2004 11:36

Mum2Ela, why are you scared? Are you shy? If so, I have the same problem, I never know what to say to people, but I would like to meet up still because I'm fed up with not having any friends Lindsay, I will email you, I don't mind travelling with a baby, it just takes me a while to get out of the house! I don't really know anywhere to meet up and I don't know my way round Swansea very well, but anyway I will email you!

Mum2Ela · 14/04/2004 11:41

happy1 - nah, not shy. It would just be 'odd' meeting virtual friends IYKWIM. Doesn't anyone else feel like that?

Maybe I will stalk your meet - just hang around and have a look at you all

What if I know one of you already? Nightmare!!

lindsay7777 · 15/04/2004 10:07

Know what you mean... scary being 'fixed up' for a meet like that (kind of like a blind date!). But I figure there'll be several people there, you're bound to get along with one at least and you can just leave if you don't like the meet-up! Plus you might have new friends then!

OP posts:
Mum2Ela · 15/04/2004 10:25

But what if you already know them? In some roundabout way? Not sure if I would like that. Keep annonymous n all that!

I'll think about it, might come along, but, like I said, might just stalk you all....!

x

happy1 · 15/04/2004 12:09

Its alright for me cos I know I definitely won't know anyone!!

jac34 · 15/04/2004 18:16

Yes, know what you mean Mum2Ela and Lindsay, we are a bit strange.
The first Meet-up was a bit like a blind date, and as we had no idea what the others looked like, we had to say to the waitress,"Table in the name of Mumsnet", where upon she looked at us oddly and showed us to our table. Then of course we had no idea of each others names, only nicknames.I think one person arrived clutching a copy of the Mumsnet book to identify themselves.

kbaby · 15/04/2004 18:32

Hi,

Im 34 weeks pregnant with baby 1 and live just outside cardiff.

Jac, can you recommend places where we could meet up (preferably with decent transport connections or parking options since a lot of us will be travelling in)? Somewhere that will take kids? I'm happy to book and organise, if someone will just recommend places. Only 2 I can think of offhand are TGIs on Newport Road, and Debenhams. Any yay's or nay's on either of these or other suggestions?

Ikea sounds good and I've been meaning to go anyway, so I could get my shopping done at the same time! Am free any day really as I can re-arrange most of what I do and I'm not working...

Anyone want to object to any of the following?
12/12.30 Tuesday
12/12.30 Thursday
12/12.30 Friday

If people say which days are good or bad for them, then we can try and arrange an actual date... (or time, if people object to lunchtime)
