Sue - am in school all morning, being an involved parent and helping in nursery.

Listen good luck at Brenda's and have agreat weekend break!

suejoneziscalmernow · 29/09/2006 17:13

Met Brenda this morning, she seems very nice. And her dogs! The labrador was more like a walrus than a dog but I thought he was lovely! Anyway I have plunged in and agreed on the spot to use her - 3 days a week from Feb, building up to three days during January.

Feels very odd arranging childcare before the child arrives!

fatfox · 29/09/2006 19:05

Sue - you won't regret it, she's probably the kindest person I know and 100% reliable. I didn't want to go on about her too much before you saw her, in case you thought I was getting commisson or something

By the way, both the dogs are really gentle and soppy.

At least you've got that part sorted now anyway
Brenda's really exited about meeting your LO. When s/he arrives, it might be an idea to take him round there a couple of times before you go back to work, so he can get used to her etc.

suejoneziscalmernow · 29/09/2006 20:19

I think she was a bit startled when she said... well go away and think about it.. and I said... no need, happy to say yes now! Have already agreed to take junior over a few times with me beofre starting then we'll do a couple of mornings whilst I'm still off then build up to three days.

I certainly wouldn't be worried about either of those dogs - I think even a 9 month old could outrun the lab and scruffy wasn't big enough to savage a pet mouse.

fatfox · 30/09/2006 07:32

Excellent. LOL at your description of her dogs

ps Brenda's own children are really kind too, DS and DD love being with them. She has two teenagers and two younger boys and the younger boys always include my two in their games etc, although DD (in DS's view anyway) in just an annoying little sister. Ben, in particular (9), is a very gentle boy and likes playing with younger children. I'm sure Junior will have agreat time there.

hmm, just noticed the rain this morning has seeped through the wall into our dodgy conservatory, making a very ugly wet patch along one end, where the wall meets the wood

Does anyone know any Polish builders?

MrsBigD · 30/09/2006 07:49

omg [shock) how am I supposed to catch up with this? 1 wweek away and i'll be busy for days reading!

Mrs Big D - HELLO AND WELCOME BACK!!!

How were your hols?? Did you have a lovely time?

We've all missed you [air kisses emoticon]

2Cute · 30/09/2006 13:47

Welcome back BigD! How was ur holiday?

MrsBigD · 01/10/2006 08:40

Oh it's nice to know I've been missed holiday was great despite the average age of the group being around 70! good ego boost as well because the tour guide took a shine to me, then again... I was probably the best preserved female on board . Coming home was great until... but that's probably another thread if I get inclined to rant and rave on mn later

Uwila · 01/10/2006 08:56

Welcome back!

So your mum behaved herself, then?

MrsBigD · 01/10/2006 09:26

yep mum behaved more or less LOL didn't have to toss her over board after all

fatfox · 01/10/2006 14:58

MrsBigD - come on tell us what you did there then? Where did the gorgeous tour guide take you all too?

We may be stuck here in the peeing rain, but we could enjoy your experiences by proxy

ps. do you know any Polish builders?

MrsBigD · 01/10/2006 19:00

LOL the 'gorgeous' tour guide (medium preserved mid-50's guy, if ya want I could upload picture shortly so you can decide for yourself how good/bad he looks LOL) took us to various islands of the Kyklades, including some taverns and lovely villages. Weather was mixed, sea was a bit rough at times but thankfully there's drugs for that

One thing's for sure though... I'm going to stay clear of German tour groups in future... some rather stranges people they are LOL then again guess any nationality group needs to be a mixed bag of things... we had the 'never happy with anything', the 'will try it on with anybody even though wife is there', the 'shy but actually quite sweet', the 'I'm so full of my self' and a few 'We're actually quite o.k.' no matter what the age...

MrsBigD · 01/10/2006 19:03

as for polish builders... I work for a building company and all the guys we have on the books have rather strange, weird and wonderful names, guessing some might be polish What do you need him for?

OP posts:
MrsBigD · 01/10/2006 19:14

here he is

Will start October general chit chat thread tomorrow and would be obliged for summary of last week

fatfox · 01/10/2006 19:48

hmmm not my cup of tea . The holiday sounds nice though.

We have a conservatory wall which is "leaking" when it rains. i.e. there is now a huge damp patch on it. My Dad says it should be a cavity wall but was built as a single layer wall ! Make any sense?

MrsBigD · 01/10/2006 20:48

yeah I like 'em younger too LOL

I'll run your wall proble past my boss

OP posts:
fatfox · 01/10/2006 22:40

MrsBigD - my Dad also said that at the top of the wall, there is supposed to be a groove, which lets the water run down and avoids it running below onto the wall. This is also missing.

I think the previous owners were a bit thick actually They also paid £2,500 for some guttering which was completely shoddy. The builders must've seen them coming!

I need a workman who can assess the problem (with my dad standing next to them fo course ) but could also rectify it. Polish preferably as they tend to be more honest and conciencious IMO. (good Catholic boys )

Uwila · 02/10/2006 16:40

Yeah, I used to subscribe to the polish are good honest hard workers thing too... until I hire Ms. Liddleclothes to look after my 14 month old only to discover she had her sights set on internet dating whilst ignoring DD....

Her name was Lidka but she wore very skimpy clothes around the house so DH nicknamed her Ms. Lidleclothes.

quokka · 02/10/2006 17:39

We had polish builders do our kitchen and every couple of months a problem pops up and ends up costing us £200 - £500 . Wish we just spent the extra money on a good builder.

pudding77 · 02/10/2006 18:46

We had a few problems with the polish guy we hired to do a few bits in our house as well, work not as good as promised, took twice as long as he said it would & then tried to charge us more!

fatfox · 02/10/2006 19:32

Hey you lot, stop slagging the Polish eh!! They're good Catholic boys, really they are

Wot about English builders...I mean they can't even make a decent cuppa - and lets face it, they get enough practice! Know wot I mean?

quokka · 02/10/2006 19:37

My english plumber/builder says that the huge influx of pols is keeping him in business - fixing up all their mistakes! Don't get me wrong FF my cleaner is Polish and she is lovely, even babysits for us [winks].

fatfox · 02/10/2006 20:40

Quokka, what's your builder like? Do you think he could fix our wall?
