Uwila yes that is two languages!

Was watching Caché on dvd last night and was VERY miffed to find it was dubbed into American not English. You would think they would do both would you not?

quokka · 23/08/2006 15:42

Mrsbigd are getting a taxi, maybe we could share? I think you need to go past me to get over kew bridge?

Uwila · 23/08/2006 15:49

Why were you VERY miffed? Surely you can understand American. Why does it matter?

CountessDracula · 23/08/2006 15:51

Because it irritates the shit out of me when the subtitles say things like "gotten" instead of got and "recess" instead of break etc

Surely there is enough of an audience to translate properly into both languages

CountessDracula · 23/08/2006 15:56

(but then curiously they translated "appartement" as flat, not apartment, so very odd)

suejonez · 23/08/2006 16:05

Have two cats Uwila, but I had someone who's allergic to cat stay a few months ago and she was fine. I think they are hypo-allergenic cats.

You can always make your mind up on the night and take pot luck on the state of the spare room.

MrsBigD · 23/08/2006 17:26

Uwila I have great antihistamines

quokka am catching the 65 bus and walk the rest. But for stagger home shared taxi might well be an option!

OP posts:
quokka · 23/08/2006 17:35

mmmm antihistamines and alcohol Uwila could well be the entertainment for the evening! Bus, I haven't been on one of those for ages, how much does a ticket cost nowdays. Might be a bit tricky with a huge salad bowl if there are no seats .

Uwila · 23/08/2006 17:39

Still don't understand why you find it upsetting, unless of course you are jealous of America and actually long to be an American citizen where you could after all exercise your right to VOTE REPUBLICAN.

^^

Uwila · 23/08/2006 17:41

^^

xoxoxo · 23/08/2006 17:42

oh, it's decided then, I'll get a taxi and watch everyone get drunk and incoherent, then I'll jump in and be all intellectual. My repotoire extends to Dora the Explorer and Baby Mozart but can put my hand to anything really (not wishing to brag but I can critique plot lines on scooby doo, kipper the dog to name a few).

My experience of foreign films is mainly porn though. Am well impressed at your debate on translations.

Also - am still a 'maybe, but will try hard' for dinner as DH is at Bored meeting that night (or should that be nite?)

xoxoxo

quokka · 23/08/2006 17:44

quokka · 23/08/2006 17:47

xoxoxo I do hope you come we will have so much to talk about!

xoxoxo · 23/08/2006 18:02

I'm afraid to come:
you guys are incontinent (oh yes, I looked up pmsl) - I get enough pee to clean up at home, thank you very much
that one with the fangs scares me - I don't think she's joking
I've decided you're all watching porn and pretending it's a posh foreign film.

On the other hand.......

MrsBigD · 23/08/2006 19:21

on the other hand... a lot of posh foreign films ARE porn

Oh and we can have a debate whether the plotlines for Dora the Explorer or Go Diego Go are more tantalising . Personally I'm still waiting for 'Boots goes a-hiking', 'Izzy Lizardhunter', 'Benny the Torrero' and 'Swiper returns'

On the other hand, if you don't come, then we can always talk about you.

bumpmakestwo · 23/08/2006 20:02

Hello, Me new to Mumsnet and live near Hampton Court. Can I joing your gang? Im a single Mum to Bump who is 5mths old.

Uwila · 23/08/2006 20:06

Of course you are welcome. Does that mean the bump is due in 4 months, or do you have a bump and a 5 month old -- oh I hope it's not the latter.

I'm not far from you. I live in Sunbury.

bumpmakestwo · 23/08/2006 20:10

Lol. Bump is my chat room nickname for my daughter who is 5mths old.

Uwila · 23/08/2006 20:26

Tell us more. Do you work? Or are you still on mat leave? I have a DD 3 1/2 and DS 15 months. I work full time in Brentford and my DH works away most weeks in Birmingham.

bumpmakestwo · 23/08/2006 20:37

Ooohh not sure what all the initials mean (DD, DH, DS) but Im sure I'll get it when my brain clicks in to chatroom mode! I went back to working one day a week when Bump was 6weeks and will continue to do that till next year. Then I'll do two days. My baby's dad lives overseas and due to circumstance we can't be together. We are still in contact though, bit sad really. But then can't be sad for too long as I have a daughtre, and I never thought I'd be a mum! Love it!

Uwila · 23/08/2006 21:12

DD= dear daughter
DS= dear son
DH= dear husband

MrsBigD · 23/08/2006 21:29
