Any new (older) mums in East London?

My little boy is due 13th July, and I'd love to meet some other mums who live close by. I'm a Kiwi and suddenly my family seems very far away!

hi, i work a couple of days for an older kiwi mum in hackney. she has no family here either and i just give her a break a few hours a week, and advise her if she asks. if you would like a break when you have had your baby please contact me.

goldenoldie · 08/05/2006 13:11

I'm not a new mum, but def. an older one! Mum to 3 boys, 6 month old twins and a 10 year old.

Always up for a coffee and a chat.

Where in East London are you? I'm in Hackney.

KiwiKat · 08/05/2006 13:13

Hi Janett,

I'm sure I'll need a break! How old are the kids that you look after, and whereabouts in Hackney? I'm in Bethnal Green, only around the corner. Would you mind asking the Kiwi mum to keep me in mind if she's ever getting together with other mum's in a similar situation?

Hi Goldenoldie,

You must have your hands full with three boys - and here I am getting nervous about having just the one! A coffee and a chat sounds lovely. I'm in Bethnal Green, not far away at all, but I work in West London, so it wld have to be one evening or weekend, if that works for you?

Hi Kiwikat - To be honest, the boys are no trouble at all (yet!). I can do either evenings or weekends.

When do you start maternity leave? Mine finisnes in about 6 weeks time - then I'm back to the grind!

KiwiKat · 09/05/2006 13:59

What a shame - I start maternity leave on 1st July. Our timing is completely hopeless! But let's try to get together anyway. Will you be going back full or part time? And what sort of childcare have you got in place? Horrors - I haven't even thought that far down the line yet. I'm still in denial about the birth, and having my mother staying for 4 weeks!

goldenoldie · 09/05/2006 16:12

Hi KK - I'm doing a 'compressed working week' ie. 5 days worth of hours in 4 days! Expecting to be shattered, but I love my job.

Have a day nanny sorted and will rope DH in for a day too.

Good idea to get your mum in. Then you can focus on baby and she can do everything else.

Oh, KiwiKat, the NCT is pretty active in Tower Hamlets. There are quite a few mums in E1/E2. (And lots of NCT mums tend to be older.) There's a Nearly New Sale at St Bartholemew's Church on the coming Saturday, in the afternoon. (St Bart's is at the corner of Grove and Roman Road.)

CAT me if you want more info on the NCT.

NotQuiteCockney · 12/05/2006 10:07

Should have added, I'm in E3, with a 4.5 year old and a 1.5 year old. Both boys.

KiwiKat · 12/05/2006 14:51

Hi NQC, thanks so much for letting me know about the sale at St Bart's. Is that tomorrow or the 20th? And how do I CAT you? You can probably tell, I'm quite new to the site! Am really pleased that there are lots of other mums in our area, too. Smile

It's tomorrow, between 2pm and 5pm. And I've since realised the church is called St. Barnabas, whoops.

To CAT me, click on "contact another talker" at the top of the page. I think they charge a fee for that service these days. Or you can email me at NotQuiteCockney_deletethisunlessyou'[email protected]. (There are no _s in my actual email address).

NotQuiteCockney · 12/05/2006 14:54

If you really want to get involved, chat to some of the women at the sale, there are a few committee jobs open at the moment, to keep you busy when you're off on mat leave.

KiwiKat · 12/05/2006 15:42

Hello NQC, not sure what I'm doing wrong with the email, but all three variations I tried bounced back. You could try me on [email protected]. (no _ in my address either). Thanks.

Oh, gah, mine's .co.uk. Sorry. Will email you from a different account anyway.

KiwiKat · 17/06/2006 16:20

Hi Goldenoldie, Wondered whether you'd gone back to work yet? I've finished work two weeks earlier than anticipated, which might make it a bit easier to meet up. Let me know if you have any spare time over the next few weeks. That said, the baby could be induced either next week or the one following, so planning a meeting might not be as straightforward as I'm hoping!

OP posts:
goldenoldie · 21/06/2006 12:19

Hi Kiwi - yes, I'm back to work now, but I'm off on Fridays. Expect you are feeling hot and bothered and looking forward to meeting your son. How is it going? Did you get to the NCT sale?

Arabica · 21/06/2006 14:35

Helo, I'm an older mum (Goldenoldie's met me!) and am probably having my baby in late July. Based in Stoke Newington, and usually up for a coffee and some cake!

dinosaure · 21/06/2006 14:43

Hi KiwiKat,

I'm another older mum in Hackney - I'm 41 and I've got three boys as well - aged nearly 7, nearly 5 and nearly 2.

We've had a couple of evening meet-ups in Stoke Newington and I am just gearing myself up to organise another, so if you'd like to come along to htat you'd be very welcome!

My DS1's birthday is 15 July...

Arabica · 21/06/2006 14:51

Hi dinosaure, how are you? Would love to meet up before my baby arrives. I'm in the internet cafe due to ongoing building work but will look out for a meet-up thread or email me anytime.

KiwiKat · 21/06/2006 19:26

Hello Arabica and Dinosaure,

would love to come to Stoke Newington for coffee and cake. Would be great to include GoldenOldie too, if that was possible.

The latest is that they're going to induce me this Friday at 37 weeks, so will have a new baby with me when I meet you. Wish me luck!

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 21/06/2006 19:29

Are you planning to BF? The BFN is very strong locally, and are the people to call for support. Where are you being induced?

goldenoldie · 21/06/2006 20:29

Good luck Kiwi.

Dino - would love another evening meet. Any chance of a Thurs or Fri night?

Arabica - hope the building work is going well.

dinosaure · 22/06/2006 11:29

KiwiKat, good luck for tomorrow! I hope it goes well. Post on birth announcements, please!

Very short notice I know but would anyone be around to meet up next thursday, 29th June?

Arabica, I'd love to see you before your baby arrives, but I don't think I have a current email address for you - when I tried to email you on the old email addy I had, it bounced back! Are you around next Thursday evening?

bundle · 22/06/2006 12:34

dino, am meeting up with highbury mums (non-MN!) next Thurs.. otherwise would have loved to
