Here we are Smile.

OP posts:
DomesticCEO · 05/06/2013 21:45

At our school the kids don't take anything in except their book bags and lunch box. The schools actively discourage anything else as they don't need to bring anything in and it just creates clutter! He takes his PE kit in a draw string bag and that stays in until half term.

The Juniors have a very smart bag with its own logo Smile.

DTisMYdoctor · 05/06/2013 22:10

Ooh, fancy Grin

I had no intention of getting him one, they have the same set up re: gym stuff and draw string bags here, homework sheets (which they get pretty early on apparently) and books go in the book bags, and of course lunch boxes can be carried, but according to a local mum I've befriended and quizzed incessantly they all have them. I think they basically have their morning snack in them!!! I'd feel a bit mean not getting him one.

DomesticCEO · 05/06/2013 22:35

I would get DS1 a bag if everyone had one Smile.

Just not the done thing here thankfully! Bet the teachers at his school love all that extra crap in the classroom! Grin

DTisMYdoctor · 06/06/2013 00:16

I know - what a pain! They already have an area to keep lunch boxes, an area to keep gym stuff as well as the usual coat pegs for jackets and shoes. Complete kerfuffle!

And they have to squeeze in four adults! Because of the legal class size limits here, they have to do team-teaching because there are 30 in the class (legal limit for one teacher is 25), so two full-time teachers. Then there are two teaching assistants - one of which I know is assigned to one of the pupils. A very busy classroom!!!

DomesticCEO · 06/06/2013 19:59

Two full-time teachers?? Wow Shock!

Lots of adults in DS1's class as the school has a resource for children with HI. Have been into school helping this morning, lots of fun Smile.

LG, how's the job hunting going?

LaGuerta · 07/06/2013 12:27

Job hunting progress amounts to having gone from no acknowledgement of the first 2 applications, to receiving an actual rejection. This is positive I feel! There is another job I might apply for, plus I am going to meet some recruiters week after next. I have no expectation of getting anything quickly. Also investigating volunteering options.

The only child in ds1 's class with a school bag is a precocious brat IMO Grin no idea what she puts in it, but it always looks stuffed full. Otherwise it's lunch box, official water bottle and book bags here too.

DTisMYdoctor · 07/06/2013 21:12

Volunteering is a great idea LaG - what are you thinking of doing?

Grin at precocious child and bag. Hadn't thought of a water bottle; he can put that in his bag Grin. It seems from threads on here that having a water bottle is a pre-requisite in primary schools in England - I'm not sure if it's the same here. We definitely weren't told he'd need one. I will quiz new school mum friend!

What's everyone up to this weekend?

DomesticCEO · 07/06/2013 21:32

They can just stand outside, face to the sky and drink the rain Wink Grin!

Water bottles can be found in every English primary school now - all to do with hydration/brain function/concentration. Not sure how scientific it is, but then Brain Gym is everywhere too and apparently it's a load of bollocks Grin!

DS1 takes his water bottle into school on a Monday and brings it home Friday for washing.

As for the weekend, we're off to London for the day tomorrow to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. Not a milestone we ever thought he'd reach Smile. We're taking him up the Shard and then on a river boat trip Smile.

Hope everyone else has a good one x

DTisMYdoctor · 07/06/2013 21:36

Cheeky! Wink

That's lovely re: your dad - I hope you have a great day!

DomesticCEO · 07/06/2013 21:54

Grin Grin Grin

Couldn't resist Smile.

Thank you - I'm sure we will Smile. Looking forward to seeing my little brothers and mum too - esp my bro who was supposed to be getting married. He's been really struggling recently and I've had a couple of very tearful convos with him Sad. Need to give him a big hug.

DTisMYdoctor · 07/06/2013 23:24

Aw, your poor brother. Hope he's ok soon.

LaGuerta · 08/06/2013 12:44

I would assume that the Scottish government will have put in legislation to ensure that all children are issued with a bottle of iron bru each day. Wink

Happy birthday to your Dad CEO. Hope it is a happy day. Sorry your brother is suffering.

We have our high maintenance neighbours from our old house coming later to stay over night. This requires thorough cleaning of the house, and me to attempt to be a bit more princessy than normal Wink. We also have the school fate if DH ever reappears from the supermarket.

LaGuerta · 08/06/2013 13:02

Oh and DS1 has just patted my stomach and told me he thinks I am having a baby.

I'm not.

Angry
Gigondas · 08/06/2013 13:05

I would like a bottle of Iron Bru a day let alone the kidsGrin.

Good luck with weekend plans- is the princessy neighbour lag the one who got very pfb lag?

Family weekend will be nice CEO and ESP to see your brother . Was very sad what happened to him.

Am impressed from your FB with baking plans dt.

All done with ga at hospital but feeling the after effects and will have leg pump on for little while. Kids enjoying the sun - even talk of paddling pool.

DTisMYdoctor · 08/06/2013 13:53

Have I told you all my awful neighbours have moved out? GrinGrinGrin

Grin at irn bru. I can't remember the last time I had any.

This morning's baking didn't quite go to plan, but at least it was edible!

Gigondas · 08/06/2013 14:14

That's a result dt - what are new ones like?

DTisMYdoctor · 08/06/2013 15:04

No-one yet. Unsurprisingly they've trashed the house so the poor owners have a lot of work to do. They're devastated. Clearly managing agents never inspected the property. Feel bad that we didn't make an effort to get in touch with the owners. But with all the stuff that has come out about them recently I was right to avoid getting on the wrong side of them!!!

Gigondas · 09/06/2013 06:34

Thing is (and I know scots law is different) even if you had said something dt it's not so easy to get tenants out even if nightmares. Does sound like your complaints were quite moderate in circumstances.

Feeling bit sorry for myself as very achy and unfit so moving around tricky . Dh taking kids to ils so I can take day to study . Idea of car ride with sore leg not appealing.

LaGuerta · 09/06/2013 10:15

Hope a quiet day helps Gig. Sorry you feel crap.

Yes our friends are the ones with PFB tendencies. They are lovely but she especially is a stress head. Anyway we had fun with them last night. Smile

DTisMYdoctor · 09/06/2013 12:25

That's a shame Gig, ditto LaG's hope that a quiet day help.

You are right re: neighbours, I just feel a bit bad for the owners. Right now I'm just majorly p'd off - apparently there are a load of ants next door, and funnily enough a small batch have appeared in ds's bedroomAngry

DomesticCEO · 14/06/2013 18:16
Grin
Gigondas · 14/06/2013 19:11

Shouts back- how are you? Happy birthday to your ds1.

Still lumbering about with pump -but doing ok. Getting ready for big gig party next weekend. Lag-is it ds1 party this weekend?

DTisMYdoctor · 14/06/2013 21:15

Right, if I get a post in now, LaG will surely post after! So who's birthday is when, and what did you all go for present wise? I've just ordered DS some star wars lego - he has some money and vouchers from easter that we'll use to get a new scooter. Did I see wooden fort on fb CEO?

DomesticCEO · 15/06/2013 18:42

Hi all, DS1's birthday today and party tomorrow!

Fort was a joint pressie for both boys - he got dressing up clothes and Lego to open today Smile and a fab playmobil helicopter too!

He's had a lovely day Smile.

DTisMYdoctor · 15/06/2013 19:35

Glad he had a good day!
