Hello hello! Here I am with good intentions to behave and show up to some meet ups since I utterly failed in 2011! Grin

So we need ideas for daytime meets and of course we must not forget our night time meets Wink

Daytime Ideas
Beamish
Saltwell Park, Gateshead
The Giants Den, Team Valley
Botanic Gardens
Beach (in the summer of course, unless we want airborne children!)

Okay so ideas for January daytime, I think cake is definitely in order so I propose the one that's next to Ebony, the huge place, down some steps, uhh... Slug & Lettuce is it? CAKE!

January night time? Is this something we want to plan? I know we're always poor after Christmas!

I would like to throttle dd.

When you say "no" to something she is about to do she jsut carries on and does it really quickly like you won't notice Hmm. Annoying. Today in the bath the thing she was about to do was pour water from a cup into ds2'smouth Angry.

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 18/06/2012 14:12

Well, the move went ok and I am now an official resident of Durham! :)

I have posted on the local board (and the MID FB group) asking for advice about which hospital to use when DC2 arrives in December, so if you have any recommendations, that would be fab. I'll need to find a GP this week to register with too...

Did we decide on a date for a meet up? I am free...always, as I am home FT and don't know anyone here yet! Although I do need to wait in ALL DAY on Friday for an Ikea delivery (fun times!!)

StealthPolarBear · 18/06/2012 14:16

Hi beans :)
Many will disagree but I gave birth at uhnd and was very happy.
Meet up - can we arrange something for he 1st week of the school hols? I am off :o
Before as well, of course, but I'm not likely to be able to make it so just getting my dates in now :o

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 18/06/2012 14:16

Indith - DS's default response to being told no is to say "but I WANT TO Mammy", like that is going to suddenly change my mind about him climbing in the pond/licking the radiators/slamming the conservatory doors Hmm

Indith · 18/06/2012 15:51

Oh I know who you are!

Dd's response used to be "But I am Mummy!". Clearly she felt this was broadcasting her intentions too loudly and has progressed to speed naughtiness Hmm.

Beans I think you get good and bad experiences everywhere, eveywhere is pretty short staffed sadly. The MLU at Bishop is supposed to be lovely, really lovely and the staffing set up for that should mean there is always someone available (it doesn't have births every day so doesn't have permanent MWs there but there would always be 2 MWs for you when you are in labour there). UHND is OK really and in the past couple of years the bf support has much improved, the maternity care assistants are great. I had all mie at home and loved it, in general the CMWs here are very pro HB so something to think about.

I'm happy to meet up any time really Beans, I've got stuff to do tomorrow morning then probably at bf group tom afternoon. Wed afternoon dd has her boosters. I could grab dd from nursery on Thursday and head up to the Botanic gardens if you fancy it? They do nice cake Grin. I can be there about 12.

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 18/06/2012 20:45

This week is a bit tricky as my ILs are staying (ARRGGGHHHHH, go home!!!)

But from next week onwards I am free as a bird!

I have had loads of responses on the FB page about hospitals and it's a real mixed bag. I tried a MW led unit with DS but cracked under the pain and demanded an epidural after 13 hours! I had not really considered a home birth but might give it some thought. I tore pretty badly with DS and it took quite a while for me to be stitched back together (tmi?!) and I lost quite a lot of blood, so it makes me worry about what would happen if I was at home...

spiffysquiffyspiggy · 18/06/2012 22:56

Work is mental again, been working stupid hours every day for 2 weeks. Which would be ok if I stood a chance of getting that time back but I haven't got a hope in hell. I need a g&t and 2 weeks in the sun which I ain't getting!

Hello beans, I saw your post on MID. I had a loooooong birth with DC1 and ended up with an epidural -and drip and ARM and ventouse . DC2 came in 20mins in unplanned homebirth so you can end up with complete opposite ends of the spectrum! Planned hb with DC3 which was lovely- wouldn't do it any other way now. Apparently I had a pph with DC1 which would have made me high risk but nobody told me until they went through my notes after DC3 Hmm

Right am off to bed. Hopefully back tomorrow to talk meet ups....

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 19/06/2012 13:12

Thanks spiffy, that's good to know.

I just need to vent with a massive AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH

My ILs have been staying with us since last Tuesday. They went home for one night on Saturday, arriving back at our new place on Sunday morning. I kind of assumed they'd be heading back today, but they announced last night that they are staying until SUNDAY! So I'll have had them for nearly two full weeks!!

It doesn't seem to occur to them that DH, DS and I might appreciate some time alone to settle in to our new place?! We have not had a weekend just the three of us since the beginning or May. I am at home FT (DH works FT) so I am the one entrtaining them allllll day. Aaargghhh!!!

Sorry for the rant, I can't vent about it anywhere else really!

Any tips for how to head them off early, while still remaining polite??

Indith · 19/06/2012 13:23

Oh goodness you poor thing, sounds like a nightmare! Erm how about "oh I'm sorry I thought you were leaving, X is coming up on Thursday so I'm going to need the spare room" X could maybe be a teenage child of a friend (who they don't know of course) who wants to look round the university or something?

Or just go for honesty, you need some space to settle in, your ds needs to get a routine going of some toddler groups etc and you just feel as though you can't crack on doing all the thiings you need to do like Dr and dentist registration while having to entertain them.

Anyway, happy to meet you any time next week :), or this Thursday even if they are still there, you could always say you organised a playdate thinking they would be gone and you hope they don't mind entertaining themselves Wink.

We need some dates for a night out please before ds gets all big and unportable!
7th, 14th, 21st and 28th are the Saturdays in July.

spiffysquiffyspiggy · 19/06/2012 19:59

We could all come round to yours- that should have them running for the hills Grin Can't guarantee you'd have a house left afterwards though

I'm free any Saturday in July for night out.

How did the house buying go juney? any news?

Indith · 19/06/2012 20:12

Good idea Spiggy, several enthusiastic children, a couple of crawlers/new walkers, get the newly pregnant ones to add a bit of vomit, my ds2 can vomit everywhere. Guaranteed to send them packing.

spiffysquiffyspiggy · 19/06/2012 20:53

the walking isn't so much of a problem with DS2- it is the climbing. His favourite word is "up" which he usually shouts when he has conquered a new object. Found him in DS1's bunkbed the other day. Shock They've had to put the rocking horse away at nursery because he insists on standing on it instead of sitting.

Indith · 20/06/2012 07:56

Hahaha!

Indith · 23/06/2012 06:32

I've discovered how to stop ds2 feeding so much at night! It is amazing!

Give him a stonking cough and snotty nose so he screams all night instead.

Think I prefer the feeding for sleep value really.

StealthPolarBear · 23/06/2012 08:06

oh no :(

Indith · 23/06/2012 08:38

I'd ask if you wanted to go to the park but ds1 coughing like mad too, you probably don't want him to give it to T&A!

Indith · 23/06/2012 14:41

By heck my daughter can snore! She is asleep on the living room floor. Ds2 sleeping on me which is a nice change from screaming. Ds1 out in the woods with dh who is back from a couple of nights of freedom.

spiffysquiffyspiggy · 24/06/2012 20:59

you let DH have freedom? you are generous! Or do you keep a tally of the freedom nights he has had so you can claim your time back once you don't have a baby stuck to your boob? like I do

Don't think I can do the 7th July now- DH been offered freebie tickets to the cricket so will be in no fit state to be in charge that night.

I'll swap A with a cough and cold for a vomiting, runny bummed T. No?

Indith · 24/06/2012 21:14

Well I'm such a good wife you know . He went to his brother's and they took their dad to see Bruce for his 60th.

I think you can keep your boy, I shall just deal with the cough and snot thanks.

14th, 21st or 28th then Come on people where is the enthusiasm?

SPB what do you want to do in daytime when you are off in July?

StealthPolarBear · 25/06/2012 06:12

ooh
How is DS2 this morning?
I don't know ... Botanic Gardens? Or somewhere like that? Or some soft play if it's pouring?

LeggyBlondeNE · 25/06/2012 11:04

Is this for a night out? I can do 14th for sure, the other two depend on J's birthday plans (he's midweek this year). Although of course, I can't guarantee I'll be able to eat anything. Feel sick when hungry, feel sick after eating. Basically feel constantly like I've got a hangover and travel sickness rolled into one.

Still, at least I get to sleep most nights!

spiffysquiffyspiggy · 25/06/2012 16:06

that sound horrible Leggy. Have you tried seabands- the travel sickness bracelets that sit on the acupressure point on your wrist? Worked wonders for me as long as I kept them on constantly.

14th works for me if I haven't had a nervous breakdown by then

Indith · 25/06/2012 17:35

14 then. Go rally troops everybody!

Indith · 25/06/2012 17:36

14th.

FrozenNorthPole · 25/06/2012 20:42

14th? A tentative yes from me!
