Hello hello! Here I am with good intentions to behave and show up to some meet ups since I utterly failed in 2011! Grin

So we need ideas for daytime meets and of course we must not forget our night time meets Wink

Daytime Ideas
Beamish
Saltwell Park, Gateshead
The Giants Den, Team Valley
Botanic Gardens
Beach (in the summer of course, unless we want airborne children!)

Okay so ideas for January daytime, I think cake is definitely in order so I propose the one that's next to Ebony, the huge place, down some steps, uhh... Slug & Lettuce is it? CAKE!

January night time? Is this something we want to plan? I know we're always poor after Christmas!

It was great Grin. I felt all full of energy afterwards too, even on Sunday having had no sleep I still felt all energised and made my entire house all shiny :). According to Mapmyrun the little run up the lines I normally try to do is 5k so I'm determined to try to do it twice a week in the evenings then at the weekend graduaklly stretch it a bit further. I could do with getting an OS map though to see where various paths lead to vary it a little, I don't want to run along one thinking it is taking me in a loop onlky to find myself stuck, I wouldn't mind but ds2 would get very grumpy waiting for me to come back and feed him if I ended up out longer than I thought I would!

By the way SLF is there anywhere you suggest for getting new trainers? Mine were fitted by a great place that looked at running style but that was at least 10 years ago, probably more and they do rub a bit these days!

juneybean · 22/05/2012 16:56

Wahh why do I keep thinking about the Beamish house? :/

OP posts:
Indith · 22/05/2012 17:40

Because it is pretty and you love it

stickyLFDTfingers · 22/05/2012 18:49

indith on the map front, OH got me a special OS map which is centred on our house. Because I am a geek I think it's very cool, it hangs in the kitchen and I can work out routes while wiping up (or standing around vacantly, as is my wont).

On shoes... I have got mine from Northern Runner in Ncle in the past, which made sense when I worked there and got them at lunchtime. They were really good, gave me loads to try and run up and down behind the shop in! Last time I went to Sweatshop in the Metrocentre, mostly because I joined RunEngland and that gave me £15 off (you can also do this, you just join on their website). However, I've not been too impressed with those shoes, even though they have a super duper computer for gait analysis. I think a practised eye watching at Northern Runner is at least as good. I've never used Start Fitness in Durham for shoes (tho they do have some real bargains for other things I've got there), but think they might be my next port of call.

Sorry that was quite a long answer!

Indith · 22/05/2012 20:07

Oooh the map thing is probably a very good idea as our village is right on the edge of the Durham map, think you only actually get half the village on it.

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 24/05/2012 13:38

I am moving to Durham next month so thought I'd pop on here and say hi and shamelessly invite myself along to your next meet up (hope that's ok!)

I have one DS (2.3) and am expecting no2 on Christmas Eve (bad planning!)

If anyone can point me in the direction of some fun toddler groups/activities etc then I'd much appreciate it...

Indith · 24/05/2012 13:48

You are in good company with the bad planning, Spiggy and I have 2 of those each Grin.

Where in Durham are you moving to (for groups purposes)?

So that is one cake meet up needed for end June/early July.

Now when are we doing a night out?

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 24/05/2012 14:37

I managed to have DS1 on my sister's wedding day (he was a week late), I do love to be the centre of attention at all family occasions!

We'll be living in Framwellgate Moor for a year (renting) while we have a nose around and see where we want to buy.

Indith · 24/05/2012 15:54

You have style Grin.

I don't know much about the local groups in Fram. There is a nice group that meets in Antioch House over from St Margarets church on Crossgate which is near enough city centre, think it is Thurs and Fri morning, been a while since I went as we moved out of the city. You have story time at the library on a Wednesday morning. There are loads and loads of groups around though. There is a Facebook group called Mums in Durham which you could join that has a document on it listing groups but you'll pretty much be able to find something for every day within walking distance if you want to.

juneybean · 24/05/2012 16:45

Welcome IWill!

My birthday is mid July so definitely want to celebrate with an evening out Grin but earlier is also good!

Where do we want to go?

spiffysquiffyspiggy · 25/05/2012 10:53

Welcome Iwill Smile

My DD was born 27th Dec and ended up being born by the lights of the Christmas decorations- very festive!

Meet up and night out sounds like a plan. Can we avoid the 16th June though? While rootling around for this blasted coil (which is still MIA) the gynae found the cyst I had drained in July has come back so I'm booked for it to be surgically removed on 14th and I might not feel like sitting down for very long on the 16th! I'm also being sent for scan and possible X-ray as she was a bit concerned that I didn't see the coil fall out and it could still inside somewhere Shock

stickyLFDTfingers · 25/05/2012 10:54

Broom House Farm

Hi got this on the group on this morning so thought would pass it on if you didn't have and might be interested. We go up there for cakes and playing in the field reasonably often, but the woodland adventure trail I've always thought a bit pricey... so may get this.

Actually that's not a bad place for a meet up - very child friendly and excellent cake!

Hello IWill! I'm in Neville's X, so not all that far away from where you will be. I used to go to the playgroup here cross the road from me (am lazy bugger) which was nice - but mine are now both school age so it's been a while now.

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 25/05/2012 14:21

Thank you! :)

We move in to our new house on the 16th, so that might be a bit tricky for me...although the thought of leaving DH to unpack while I scuttle off to eat cake is actually quite appealing!

Thanks for the info about the groups, I will check them all out...

stickyLFDTfingers · 25/05/2012 20:39

spiggy I x posted with you this morning - poor you! That all sounds very tiresome and painful :(

Though on a lighter note I was walking through Langley Moor today (as you do) and a flat bed truck went by with a sign saying "SPIGGY" on the dash. So your little moonlight has been found out... piano removals no job too small indeed...

Indith · 26/05/2012 08:07

Oh dear Spiggy :(

Well why don't we do cake on the 19th so IWOEB can escape the boxes for the morning and leave a night out til July?

Grin at Spiggy's sideline. I alwas think of the carpet fitter in The Queen and I and Queen Camilla who married Princess Anne.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 26/05/2012 10:16

Count me in! Will be going off to Spain on the 20th, so that works nicely for me.

juneybean · 26/05/2012 16:10

Smashing, where shall we go? Slug & Lettuce?

juneybean · 26/05/2012 16:11

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-22915545.html

Viewed it this morning and it's absolutely gorgeous.

OP posts:
Indith · 26/05/2012 20:00

Lovely!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 26/05/2012 21:29

Have you put an offer in?

juneybean · 26/05/2012 21:38

Not yet, going to ring co-op on Monday and ask them if they think they'll give me enough money then perhaps put an offer in Grin

OP posts:
spiffysquiffyspiggy · 26/05/2012 21:46

aaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhh! If it is not one thing it's another. Lovely sunny day and as is traditional in the spiggy house I spent it in A&E. DD came away with an inhaler, a supply of antihistamines and instructions to stay away from peanuts until we can have an urgent allergy referral. She shared DS1s bombay mix and started wheezing, itching and came up in a big red rash. The only suspect thing I could spot in the packet was peanuts. This does not sound good news. fuck, fuck, fuck. Oh and DS2 has managed to trap his finger in the rocking chair so it looks as though his fingernail is going to fall off (it is gradually turning black) and then burn his arm by knocking the fireguard over by trying to climb the ruddy thing.

juneybean · 26/05/2012 21:51

Ohh no Spiggy!!! What a nightmare :(

OP posts:
Indith · 28/05/2012 13:04

Oh Spiggy I'm sorry. Fingers crossed you get her tested soon.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 28/05/2012 15:55

Oh no Spiggy, poor DD, DS2 and you!
