Can do Mon or Tues next week (I'll swap days with DP if needed) Botanics sounds good- hopefully it'll tire them out Grin

Aga man couldn't fix oven. Am not happy.(TBF it is 40years old!)

Indith · 20/01/2011 14:33

Ds is in nursery Monday so Tuesday? They do good cake, I can bring candles na dwe can take it outside id theywon't let us light them inside!

I feel your pain. Our stove was declared kaput the other day. The flipping thing is probably only 5 years old (guessing since we didn't oen the house then) but is in an absolute state, everything is warped and it is uncontrolable. That'll just be around £3k then . Suppose heat and hot water are kind of a priority though.

Just remembererd MSLC meeting is Tuesday but it starts at 1 so morning and earlyish lunch would be grand.

Morning and early lunch would be great. Then they might fall alseep in the car on the way back!

The Aga does our heating and hot water downstairs but luckily that side is still working so we can keep going while we decide what to do with it. Am just very sad as I've always wanted an Aga, finally get one (ok it is a rayburn but same sort of thing) and it breaks. Are you without heating/hot water or is it just difficult to control? Hope you not without completely- tis freeeezing tonight.

Indith · 21/01/2011 08:30

Just difficult to control. The stove is so warped that it gets air in even when youthink you've plugged all the gaps so I can only put very small amounts of fuel on at a time (you should be able to fill it up and ignore it for 18 hours or so). If I put a little too much on or catch it on a bad day it goes mental and the flue glows red. Not a good thing! As soo as it is warm enough to do without it for a couple of days it is coming out! I'm petrified of the bloody thing.

aaaaargh. Nursery has chicken pox. I've had it, as have the kids but what are the rules about taking the kids out and about if they have been exposed? Anybody know if they can they infect someone even if they are immune to it themselves? Might have to phone NHS direct.

juneybean · 21/01/2011 22:46

Some people (although it's rare) can catch chicken pox for the second time.

Tis most contagious in the few days before the rash appears, see if anything develops over the weekend.

But to be fair any of us could be exposed at any time and not know it Grin don't let it stop your party on Tuesday!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 22/01/2011 07:59

Exactly Juney. The problem is by the time you realise you have it you have been infectious for a few days anyway!
I think it is about time that we start routinely vaccinate against chicken pox because it is dangerous for pregnant women and can can lead to all sorts of complications for other people, especially adults :(

For those of you not on FB I'm having a girl Grin

Indith · 22/01/2011 08:26

I didn't think there was a problem taking them out if exposed Spiggy, after all the incubation is up to 3 weeks, you can't stay in for 3 weeks just in case!

I have found information quite conflicting for vaccines. SPB talked to our surgery about it. She lied and said she was considering TTC and with 2 dcs prime age for the pox was worried. They did a blood test for immunity and turned out she was immune but otherwise she could have had the jab (but paid for it I think). Soon after hers came down with the pox and I decided to rub mine against hers to get it over with but I have never had it. When mine were over it but I was still in the incubation period I saw the nurse for something else and we chatted about the chicken pox too. She was a bit concerned for me if I got it but when I said it had been a bit of a pregnancy paranoia of mine she said it wasn't really a problem and although like anything else you will get some cases where things go badly it is pretty rare and it is only in certai stages of pregnancy that it can be a problem and in any case if you know you are exposed or if you yourself get it during pregnancy you can then have a test for immunity done and precautions taken if necessary. She also said though that they didn't do the jab at all so not quite what SPB got told!

Oh and kara I have decided you need to call your dd Flora. Flora and D go well together I think :)

OP posts:
juneybean · 22/01/2011 11:59

Flora is a very gorgeous name! I like Florence too!

I'm loving our new babies that are coming!! Can't wait to meet them both!

spiggy · 23/01/2011 15:32

Oooh Flora is pretty. Congratulations Kara- how's D taking the news that it is a sister?

NHS direct have cleared us to be out in public given that we have all had the pox already- phew!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 24/01/2011 08:20

D is okay with it - though he is very clear that he won't be sharing his toys with the new baby!!

Indith · 24/01/2011 17:23

So is anyone other than Spiggy and I going to the Botanics tom?

Chocaholica · 26/01/2011 20:18

Oh sorry missed all of this.

Congrats to Kara! v exciting.

And happy birthday to Spiggy's little boy.

Chocaholica · 26/01/2011 20:21

What is CP?

juneybean · 26/01/2011 21:01

Center Parcs :)

Chocaholica · 26/01/2011 21:20

Aha! I love CP, in that case. Having only been once, but we are thinking of going again this year.

Have been to Sherwood, am wanting to go to Whinfell next time. Where are you/have you been?

juneybean · 26/01/2011 22:06

I'm at Whinfell at the moment, but I'm pining for Sherwood. Going to Sherwood in April though!

Chocaholica · 27/01/2011 08:55

Weren't you meant to go to Sherwood in the snow, and it fell through? are you a secret CP addict?!

Seriously - is Sherwood better than Whinfell? I've only tried Sherwood, and it was fab, apart from the accommodation felt a bit tired and not immaculately clean. Pool was great though.

juneybean · 27/01/2011 11:47

Haha I did! But this week was booked last year for my mummys 50th birthday, a little girly week away for us both.

I'm going to Sherwood in April (a reprise of December!)

I do love CP, I just love relaxing in our little lodge, at Sherwood we go in the old style exclusive, it's a 2-storey and is perfect for my friend and I as we can sit in seperate rooms if we're getting on each others nerves.

Here at Whinfell, we're in a twin studio in the Lakeside apartments, and it's pleasant enough, bathroom was a bit stinky at the beginning of the week.

But you're right, a lot of the decor is very tired!

Pool at Whinfell seemed a bit miserable to me, the water is cold and a bit grotty.

Whereas at Sherwood, it was a lovely temp, especially in the outside bit!

We might try their new one in Woburn when it opens in 2013!
