Has anyone completed the CFG degree? Considering putting in an application for the next cohort and having a bit of a wobble about the time commitment 😵‍💫

That honestly sounds like you've got it covered practice wise. I practiced saying my answers a few times out loud, and smiling a bit, just to make sure when i did record I was completely ready and my answer was the right length, i landed the key points etc. I didn't much like having to record answers but just practiced several times before doing it for real.
The company interview (stage after) feels more like a normal interview!

@Rosti1981 thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I'll practice my talking points and try to focus as much as I can on my coding experience/computing degree to make it as relevant as I can. I'll report back once I've heard from CFG :) so glad so many of you landed amazing opportunities, good luck to everyone applying for this cohort 😊

Hi,

Since you don’t always get the company you select, did you personalise your cv for the company you select or just send in a generic cv.

Edited

@MyTealFinch hey I just sent in my generic CV, it's tailored for a tech role so has my university, personal projects I worked on etc. you can probably tailor your personal summary at the top of your CV to include some key words from the company's role description. :)

I will take that under advisement. Thanks for the quick reply.

@basilpesto hi, i know this thread is old but thought i'd ask anyway, if you don't mind. I got offered a cfg sponsored data or software stream education only cfg degree place and not sure if it is worth it without job at the end. i'm seeking to switch a career from academia to data science or at leasdt data analyst type of roles. software isn't really my thing, just data. how did you find the course intensity, especially the group project? Thank you so much

sciencepotato · 03/03/2026 18:30

@explain, thank you for your tip, i am just considering taking up on their data or software stream cfg degree offer but it is education only and i am a bit hesitant. not sure if 4 months intense effort will be worth it in the end as some people advised me against taking ed only route! i wanted to take a data science stream as well but they offered data or software engineering (software is not my thing, data is!). so i am a bit sceptical if that pathway will bring me closer to being data scientist eventually... or shall i just decline and reapply again the next cohort?.. Really tough to make the decision.

sciencepotato · 03/03/2026 18:34

@Rosti1981 would you say cfg degree education only route worth it? i am in a small town, so only remote roles are suitable for me and i have a toddler so can't take a full time job just yet and so most of the cfg degree sponsors are not a good fit for me :(

if you’re hoping for a job at the end of the course then I would reapply. When I applied for education only I didn’t even know there was a possibility I would get a job, I just did it for the knowledge. Many other education only in my cohort did not get put forward for interviews and I have no idea why. I have since been promoted so it worked out really well for me. However if you really want a job from the course I wouldn’t risk it by taking the education only route.

Yes, sorry I agree with this. The content can be got through Udemy or free courses or other sources in general. The unique thing that CFG offers is the chance for employer sponsorship of roles, so if you are seriously wanting to career change then I would reapply for a place with sponsorship.
I know it's frustrating to wait but it's a one time opportunity and if you do the CFG sponsored only route, then you can't do it again. Some people do manage to get a job off the back of it, but it would be a lot harder, so I would recommend reapplying.

Hi, yes, thanks, I know I can do it only once. Remote sponsored roles are almost non existent this year and I can only do remote jobs. Plus the competition and all the pressure for such roles are a bit ridiculous too. But I think I'll reapply anyway as I want to do data science not data or software pathway.

That sounds sensible. Definitely opt for the one you know you want to do. Hopefully you'll get on the next cohort and you never know on the remote front (appreciate it is very difficult though). Good luck!

Hi, guys. I need a bit of advice or just share your opinions or suggestions. I got into the program (education only) I know that we are at the start, my thing is we are learning things i already know. Also, I am finding that the course is strict when it comes to
how to do certain things, it’s like it’s one way of doing things. I also am a bit worried because the way in which the topics are being covered, I just think that when we start to learn things that I don’t know, the teaching style that I’m seeing right now is going to fail me because sort of lightly touches on stuff and then you are given an assignment. I know it’s an intensive course, but at the same time I can’t help but see the ways in which they may be problems ahead

Hey, sorry to hear that you're finding it a bit disappointing so far. I'm sure it'll pick up and I get why only foundations are taught because everyone has such a different background. I think it's expected to do a lot of self learning on top of the classes so if you feel you need to learn more to do the assignment or homework then you might want to ask them for more resources to help you with that. I heard the tutors are really supportive there and any questions or worries you will benefit from reaching out to them. Hope you get the support you need!
