Hi am starting the Harcombe diet tomorrow, anyone else had success with it or fancies joining me? 6 and a bit weeks to holidays!!

OP posts:

Day 3/phase 1

L: egg salad with homemade coleslaw
NLY

D: veg chilli (no beans, no lentils), brown rice
NLY

Met a friend for coffee. Managed to remember to order decaff BUT had milk.... 😟 Hoping it won't make too much difference.... At least it wasn't wine or a large G&T!!

Justchillaxing · 31/08/2017 21:08

Sounds good. I wonder if almond or soya milk would be better than normal milk ...?

How are the cravings?

Today I had

B: bacon and eggs fried
L: tuna mayo with salad
D: salmon with spinach and ratatouille
S: probably pork scratchings and NLY lol

honeyandginger48 · 01/09/2017 11:56

Yes, I need to remember to ask for soya milk when I'm out. Cravings aren't too bad. I think for me, going cold turkey and completely cutting out sugar is easier than allowing myself to just have a little bit....which always leads to a little bit more....

How are you getting on?

Justchillaxing · 01/09/2017 12:35

I'm the same .. I can't have a little sugar, a little chocolate .. then I just want more. I've learnt that I can't have any at all.

I'm ok, a bit meh today due to the start of my period. Craving all sorts but I'm not going to give in. Sugar won't make me feel better .. at least not in the long run. I've also put a lb back on but will presume that's due to my period too and hope it goes again, as I've stuck to this WOE. I promised to take dd and friend shopping and really don't feel like it plus really skint Blush Might try and put it off.

So soya milk is ok in cappuccino?

honeyandginger48 · 01/09/2017 17:49

Sorry to hear you're not feeling too great. Shopping (and spending money) always makes me feel incredibly grumpy at the best of times.

I've just checked the Harcombe website and Zoe is really anti soya milk - due to the way it's produced. She was also a bit wary about almond milk etc in drinks during phase 1 as it could be considered 'grazing'.Sad

Day 4/phase 1

L: Brown rice pasta with courgette, peas, artichoke, garlic, olive oil, lemon and basil

D: Leftover veg chilli with roast butternut squash and salad.
NLY

Really fighting the urge to have a glass of wine - it is Friday after all.... Oh well only one day to go until cheese!!!!

Justchillaxing · 01/09/2017 18:34

Sounds lovely - you're doing well.

Yes I read that on the Harcombe site too. I just get bored of black decaf when I'm out...

Justchillaxing · 01/09/2017 18:37

B: bacon and eggs fried
L: NLY
D: 97% meat sausages with cauliflower in butter and leeks braised in butter
S: probably pork scratchings, had a babybel earlier

Managed to stay away from chocolate by eating NLY with cinnamon. I didn't go to the shops in the end, dropped dd 16 and her friend off and left them to it.!

Justchillaxing · 02/09/2017 11:27

The cravings got to me last night and I had a magnum or two because there was nothing else in the house. Very disappointed with myself but will carry on with five days phase one again.

honeyandginger48 · 02/09/2017 12:28

These things happen (especially on a Friday evening!!). Today is a new day..... Smile

I've got a big family get together tomorrow afternoon at my mum's and am fully anticipating having a couple of glasses of wine and maybe even 'mixing' my foods because I don't want to be a pain in the arse to cater for. (I think I can resist the puddings - my mum makes terrible puddings!!) Zoe will be very disappointed with me I know, but I'll go straight back to strict Harcombe after.

honeyandginger48 · 02/09/2017 20:34

Day 5/phase 1

Last day of phase 1! Looking forward to adding some dairy. Think I will avoid bread/wheat for a little longer. Bread always makes me hungry.... Will weigh myself tomorrow morning. How did you get on today?

L: egg mayo salad with roast butternut squash
NLY
D: aubergine and spinach curry with veg pilau rice
NLY

honeyandginger48 · 03/09/2017 10:58

Just weighed myself after finishing phase 1....

3lbs down😀

Justchillaxing · 03/09/2017 15:41

That's great! Well done Grin

Justchillaxing · 03/09/2017 15:44

I've had a rubbish couple of days due to period and migraine combined. In the end I caved to a bit of chocolate and another magnum. Then had a gluten free roll for breakfast .. Couldn't face eggs.

I'll get back on track strictly tomorrow .. hopefully the migraine will finally go. I can't cook or face veg really when I've got a migraine .. all I want is rice or jacket potato Blush

honeyandginger48 · 03/09/2017 18:25

Oh no, migranes are awful - hope you feel better soon.

honeyandginger48 · 04/09/2017 18:22

Hope you're feeling better today.

I was back at work unfortunately....☹️

L: Greek style spanish omelette (no potato) with feta and salad

D: More bloody spanish omelette (I made a huge one yesterday!) with salad and hm coleslaw

No pudding at my mum's yesterday but almost a whole bottle of prosecco..... 😀

Justchillaxing · 06/09/2017 01:28

Still not feeling great and have not been sticking to the diet because I've been craving stodgy bland carbs.

I will get back on track though!

What do you put in your coleslaw?

honeyandginger48 · 06/09/2017 07:58

Sorry to hear you're still feeling rubbish... rest up and look after yourself.

I had exactly the same to eat yesterday as on Monday. That's four meals of spanish omelette in a row!!! Must remember to not make so much next time....My neighbour has just given me a bag of home grown tomatoes and courgettes so no doubt I'll be living off that for the next week!!

For coleslaw I use cabbage, carrot and celeric with a dressing of creme fraiche, mayo and dijon mustard. Don't know if I'm allowed to use shop bought mayo but I've never managed to make my own successfully so I just buy one without loads of crap in it.

Hope you feel better soon.

Justchillaxing · 06/09/2017 14:53

I used to make my own mayo but can't be bothered these days. I tend to buy tesco French style mayo as its low in carbs.

honeyandginger48 · 06/09/2017 20:17

I never think to look at carb values... will start looking from now on. I'm feeling a bit poor this month so have ordered sainsburys basic mayo in the next shop. Hope it's ok.

L: edamame spaghetti with tomato and olive sauce, broccoli
NLY
D: chick pea, potato and spinach curry with rice

Relieved to eat something different today!

honeyandginger48 · 07/09/2017 18:21

How are you feeling today? I'm off to Newcastle tomorrow, for the weekend. My OH is taking part in the Great North Run on Sunday and I'm going along for a jolly!! Might have to stray from Harcombe a bit....😉

L: leftover veg curry and rice

D: cauliflower cheese (cheese sauce was cream cheese, creme fraiche, mustard and cheddar. Feel a bit sick now!)

Justchillaxing · 09/09/2017 00:45

I'm getting a bit better physically, the migraine has gone, but hormonally I'm all over the shop - feel very up and down.

I'm ashamed to say I'm not back on track yet, but I'm sticking around because I will be soon!

Have a nice time in Newcastle!

honeyandginger48 · 09/09/2017 20:02

Glad you're going to stick around.

Newcastle has been fantastic so far - but I've broken every Harcombe rule....😀

Brunch: Eggs benedict
Dinner: mushroom pizza

Plus loads of Gin and wine!!

I imagine tomorrow will be just the same but I'll be back to Harcombe on Monday.

honeyandginger48 · 11/09/2017 19:25

Yesterday was just as chaotic food wise but it's back to Harcombe today!

L: cottage cheese salad
NLY

D: spinach and ricotta lasagne (lasagne sheets were sliced courgette rather than pasta)
Salad

Not going to weigh myself until next weekend.... I don't want to know how bad the damage Is! 😉

Justchillaxing · 11/09/2017 20:25

Sounds like you've done well today!

I've just been very very bad ...

honeyandginger48 · 12/09/2017 19:15

L: leftover courgette lasagne from yesterday with salad
NLY
D: baked potato with veg chilli and salad

Looking forward to 'bake off' for my foodie fix...
