Anyone starting today who wants to keep me company?

I'm starting LCHF today. Is there anyone else who is starting now or have recently started this diet who wants to join me so we can support each other?

I need to lose at least 12 kg but would ideally want to lose 17 kg. if possible before summer is here so I don't have to feel self conscious about wearing summery clothes.

Welcome, backingvocals. :)

Backingvocals · 06/04/2016 20:00

Diary for today:

No breakfast.
Lunch at restaurant - smoked salmon then steak with bearnaise and broccoli
Dinner - kedgeree made with cauliflower rice.

Prob not enough fat though I stirred butter into the kedgeree.

KP86 · 06/04/2016 20:12

B: Starbucks filter coffee while out with DS this morning
L: scrambled eggs with some butter, Pepsi Max
S: Skim milk cappuccino at friend's house (so much caffeine today!). He made it with milk before I could say no thanks. Really added to carb total for the day but I was pretty much 0 to that point so not a problem.
D: DH not home tonight so I had two packs of pork scratchings and some Castello Tickler cheese. Kind of a mini antipasto plate, hehe
S: I'll have some SF jelly as we've run out of cream and soft cheese so can't make anymore of my amazing LC cheese cake mix. Shopping comes tomorrow ;)

Activity: almost 2 hours of walking this morning while shopping/doing errands, and outdoor playing with children this afternoon. I've realised that scooting is hard work!

Net carbs for the day was around 5-6g I think.

ihatethecold · 07/04/2016 06:51

KP, how are you counting your carbs? Are you inputting your food into something or guessing?

KP86 · 07/04/2016 06:58

I use the my fitness pal app. It shows total cal as well as breakdown of macronutrients.

Usually the first time I add something I double check that the info in the app is correct compared to the packaging as its all user-inputted and sometimes info has changed since or they only put in cal and not the macro info.

You could do the same manually using a notebook and keeping track of meals and carbs/fibre in each item.

ihatethecold · 07/04/2016 07:34

I used to use MFP when I was trying to calorie count.

KP86 · 07/04/2016 15:12

Oh dear. Super bad day today. I was making biscuits for DS's birthday party on the weekend and I reckon I ate half a batch of uncooked dough as well as a few taster biscuits! Oops.

I feel rather unwell after that, and will try to be good for the rest of the day.

Eek.

ihatethecold · 07/04/2016 15:48

😁

KP86 · 08/04/2016 08:39

Weighed this morning, 96.4. Not sure whether it's a one-off, but first time I've been in the 96s this time around so I have to shout it from the roof tops!

I'm officially off diet for another week as its DS's party tomorrow and then we are off on a catered holiday and it will be too difficult to track carbs when I'm not cooking. Will try to remain sensible, as I did over Easter and hopefully won't gain.

I'll still be reading the thread so keep posting everyone! :)

seasidesally · 08/04/2016 18:27

weigh in today lost 3lb this week down to 101.2

total lost just over 6 weeks 1stone 3lb Grin

seasidesally · 08/04/2016 18:30

very well done KP86 and you've had a few cheats thats amazing that your still losing congratulations

ihatethecold · 08/04/2016 18:47

I made a cauliflower pizza for my dinner. What a frigging faff that was.
Tasted ok but took an hour from prep to eating.
Not sure I'll bother again.
I'm starting to get bored of my food now but it's definitely working.
9lbs down in 2.5 weeks.

seasidesally · 08/04/2016 19:10

thats a great loss

do you vary what you eat much ?

KP86 · 08/04/2016 19:27

Look at the website/twitter/instagram of a page called "Ditch The Carbs" - it's American, but lots and lots of different options for restricted diets, particularly LC.

They have a 'dough' base called "Fathead Pizza" (or something to the effect) which seems to get rave reviews. I haven't checked it out properly yet.

I agree that I'm doing remarkably well considering my cheat days. In the first month I had 2 cheat days and was very strict, this second month I've probably had about 10 (!!) off days so far. So to still be losing (clearly I still have a daily calorie deficit) is fantastic. I think I calculated this afternoon I'm only a couple of lb off 2 stone! That sounds pretty good in my head, haha :) (Aussie here, so I always work in kg).

Well done to both Seaside Sally and ihatethecold, your losses are brilliant. Keep it up.

Backingvocals · 08/04/2016 19:37

Well done everyone.

I empathise with getting bored of the food. On one of the boot camp threads we all undertook to try one new recipe a week to stave off the boredom. Might be worth a try?

Weird food day today as very hungry but was actually away from home and office all day so no access to my usual food. I ended up with two egg meals Blush

B: scrambled egg and smoked salmon
L: cheese and ham omelette
D: cheese burger with little gem lettuce and avocado and lots of mayo. Quite yummy.

seasidesally · 08/04/2016 19:42

ive just found the joy of litte gem lettuce much nicer than iceberg imo

Backingvocals · 08/04/2016 19:48

Yes it's nice, little gem, isn't it. Although it's rather weird in that it seems to last forever in the salad drawer. Is it made out of plastic ?

Agree that making anything with cauliflower is a massive faff. I'm delighted to have found packet cauli-rice and I'm hoping that that company will broaden the range to include pizza bases and tortillas

KP86 · 08/04/2016 20:35

Asda has cauli rice, 400g pack for £1. I had been buying it quite regularly but I've gone off it this last fortnight though, it makes the house stink!

My favourite way of making cauli is roasted. I could eat a whole one that way! Of course scalloped with cream and cheese is also yummy, mmmm ;)

seasidesally · 08/04/2016 20:53

yes it does last, been on offer at the co op so have been having a fair bit

cauli i like and have seen the cauli rice in Asda but cant bare the thought of it

had beef in a cream and stilton sauce with courgette and mushrooms fried in butter was yummy

going out for a birthday tomorrow, havent had a drink since starting this,i usually drink vodka and coke wondering how im going to react as herd some bad stories

KP86 · 08/04/2016 20:56

I haven't had a drink in almost two months as well. I reckon that's probably about half my weight loss right there! Will have one tomorrow at DS's party though.

Vodka is fine, carb-wise. Just be wary of added cal.

ihatethecold · 08/04/2016 21:12

I've ordered the idiots cookbook from eBay.
Hopefully I will get some inspiration.
I really did get a lot from the pig to twig book.
It did deal with the emotional side of eating really well.

seasidesally · 08/04/2016 21:18

vodka and slimline tonic for me,i usualy drink doubles but am gonna have a single,i used to drink weekly but cut it right down 18mths ago

hope your DS has a fantastic birthday, god party food would be a huge downfall for me,hope you all enjoy the day

seasidesally · 08/04/2016 21:22

its strange i find my main meal easy to do and not had the boredom set in yet (mind you i do make 3 seperate meals in the evening for the others)hope you find some inspiration

Backingvocals · 08/04/2016 21:26

Blimey. The cauli-rice in Waitrose is £2 for 200g Angry and that's really the only proper supermarket round here.

I keep thinking of all the cauliflower farmers quietly going about their business producing cauliflowers but without really causing a sensation and then all of a sudden demand goes through the roof and they are the hottest people going Grin
