Anyone starting today who wants to keep me company?

I'm starting LCHF today. Is there anyone else who is starting now or have recently started this diet who wants to join me so we can support each other?

I need to lose at least 12 kg but would ideally want to lose 17 kg. if possible before summer is here so I don't have to feel self conscious about wearing summery clothes.

thanks will keep the whoosh in mind

i think what has annoyed me is that i have not indulged in bread, pasta, rice, biscuits etc for 3 weeks and some days have been below my (cals 1300 a day)only by 100 and havent been above 15net carbs and ive been doing loads of heavy gardening

out of interest how long does what you eat and what exercise you do show up ? days,a week

KP86 · 04/04/2016 22:06

Some of my food ideas are in a post towards the very top of this thread.

I usually have either breakfast or lunch, good sized meal; maybe a mid afternoon snack and a good dinner, usually with a small snack in the evening. Stick to 1400cal post exercise each day.

My exercise is mainly incidental: walking with DS to the shops or park, taking him on days out like to English Heritage sites which involve a lot of walking. I am a member of a local gym but have only been once so far!!

seasidesally · 05/04/2016 14:27

Today's food:

B: scrambled eggs with cream, bacon and mushrooms
L: chunk of Parmesan cheese

KP86 · 05/04/2016 20:44

Forgot to say, SeasideSally, there's a good chance you are right. I think the same happened to me.

seasidesally · 05/04/2016 20:52

4 x tbs double cream for my coffee's

1 x dairylea strip cheese
2 x portebella mushrooms stuffed with bacon and cheese, little gem lettuce, cucumber, tesco truly coleslaw

4 large strawberries

13 net carbs

seasidesally · 05/04/2016 20:54

your meatballs do they have tomato based sauce

i normally make my own sauce but tinned seem to have loads of carbs

KP86 · 05/04/2016 21:00

I do make my own tomato sauce. It's fairly high carb, but if I am careful for the rest of the day then it's ok.

For 2 serves, I use 1 400g tin chopped tomatoes, 1 tin of water, 1 beef stock cube, 12 meatballs (Waitrose Hereford version), then whatever vegies I want to add which fit into carb count for the day. Usually mushrooms, grated zucchini, spinach or shredded Brussel sprouts, maybe grated carrot, broccoli and cauliflower if I have some in the fridge that's looking a bit sad.

It does need to cook for as long as possible to get a decent flavour.

seasidesally · 05/04/2016 21:15

yes the Waitrose Hereford are half price at the moment stocked up yesterday

and there own cheddar,i got a decent block for just over £2 as well

do you add garlic to it,i was looking at the chopped tomatoes today and the least carbs was the value Tesco's ones

ihatethecold · 05/04/2016 21:29

What are tinned tomatoes high carb. Do they add sugar to them?

KP86 · 05/04/2016 21:50

The tomatoes I use are napolina, they are 10g/can I think. No added sugars to that brand.

I do add garlic and herbs as well, I must confess I don't count generally count them in my recipes. I know garlic is a carb but I'm usually under by a decent way so I figure 1-2g here or there won't kill me.

KP86 · 05/04/2016 21:54

I've been going mad on the Waitrose meatballs, I think I have another 1 or 2 packs in my online shopping for this week.

The Debbie and Andrew sausages are also good value this month at buy 1 get 1 free and zero carb. Yummy, as well!

The 15% Hereford mjnce is good too. Not so much fat it looks awful and not grisly either.

I really do try to only buy meat that's 50% off each month, so my meals are based around offers rather than a set menu. When ocado salmon is half price £6/500g I buy at least 2. It's fab for LCHF.

oldlaundbooth · 05/04/2016 22:04

I have nothing to add really but just to say well done on starting : you won't look back!

The benefits are incredible, totally life changing and so easy.

Good luck everyone!

seasidesally · 05/04/2016 22:07

yes toms in any shape or form are high in carbs and i love toms

i think the value ones were 7 carbs but they are probably tasteless though with garlic etc it may make them ok

i saw the same sausages,i think but my son only eats pork and the ones i saw had apple etc in them, are they zero carbs omg i may buy them up for me and portion them up for the freezer

i buy meat when its on offer to,my local co op often has 2 very generous smoked haddock fillets normaly reduced to 99pfor both, the freezer is my friend

KP86 · 05/04/2016 22:12

The zero carb ones are Cumberland and Perfect Pork flavours. Not Waitrose own brand, but 'Debbie and Andrew'

The Waitrose ones which are also half price do have carbs.

seasidesally · 05/04/2016 22:14

are the D&A ones on offer at the moment??

KP86 · 05/04/2016 22:18

Yes, buy 1, get 1 free. Works out to £3 for 2 packs.

I buy through Ocado but most of the time their specials are also in Waitrose.

seasidesally · 05/04/2016 22:31

thanks will take a look

Backingvocals · 05/04/2016 22:52

Late to join but just wanted to jump on the bandwagon!

I did LCHF last year quite successfully for about 5 weeks but then got ill and life happened and I fell off the wagon. Now I'm ready to get back on again - I'm on day 2 already.

Food today:

  • greek yogurt mixed with cream cheese, drizzled with olive oil plus salt and pepper. This is my go to breakfast on LCHF - I really like it with a black coffee.
  • celeriac remoulade made with the Delouis mayonnaise (really low carb one available in Waitrose in case anyone hasn't found it yet) plus three slices of ham.
  • baked salmon with butter and green beans.

Glad to be back on track and regretting all the mistakes of the past!

seasidesally · 05/04/2016 23:05

welcome backgreat to here from you
didnt know about the mayo,i really only like Hellmans is it anything like that?
howmuch are you aiming to shed?
how are you feeling?

Backingvocals · 05/04/2016 23:15

I love Hellmans but I've definitely come to prefer Delouis. It's more mustardy. And now I can detect the little bit of sugar in Hellmans.

I was feeling pretty terrible earlier this year - I have put on a lot of weight suddenly and am struggling with exhaustion and stress. I'm suddenly menopausal which is partly causing and certainly not helping with those things. So I think it's just good to be back in a routine apart from anything else. Had a shocking headache yesterday but today's been ok.

Hoping to lose a stone by half term (about 6 weeks). That could be a bit optimistic - and also I don't have any scales. But I guess what I mean is I'd like my clothes to be comfortable again!

seasidesally · 05/04/2016 23:34

oh will have to pop into waitrose and have a look at the mayo, got to get more cheesse, meatballs, sausages as all half price this week

i weigh myself on the scales at Boots i find more accurate

i managed to lose a stone in just under 5wks but i have 3 to go Grin

seasidesally · 05/04/2016 23:38

i know i think i may have dropped a size, deffo feel more comfortable in my clothes now,i point blank refused to buy another size up

anyway things seem o be going in the right direction, good luck

ihatethecold · 06/04/2016 07:33

Yesterday I had
B. 2 scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.
L. Salad with cottage cheese, Parma ham and Brie.
D. Pork medallions with courgettes and double cream. I did also have a small mashed sweet potato.

The night before my heart was racing all night and I felt wired.
I read up on this and it's to do with having low blood pressure and low carbing.
It was saying that I should try having a very small amount of carbs to try to stop it.
It was such a weird feeling.

ihatethecold · 06/04/2016 07:34

I'm also having to get up a wee during the night and I can't get back to sleep.
This is the only downside of LC for me.
My sleep is really being disturbed.
