Anyone starting today who wants to keep me company?

I'm starting LCHF today. Is there anyone else who is starting now or have recently started this diet who wants to join me so we can support each other?

I need to lose at least 12 kg but would ideally want to lose 17 kg. if possible before summer is here so I don't have to feel self conscious about wearing summery clothes.

I'm trying to remember the apple pie... oh, it was while we were on holidays! That was two months ago.

I've had a completely non-cheat week, and am 200g down on the scales. 95.1 this morning. I'll take my measurements later today and start tracking as we discussed yesterday.

Yesterday's food was lots of bits and bobs, all LC. Mostly protein based, I probably needed some more fat, if I'm honest.

I'm very much over being this tired. Even DS asked to go back to bed after breakfast today so I am in bed as well until we need to be up at 8:45.

Hope everyone has a good day.

stripeyzebra321 · 13/06/2016 08:05

Yesterday we went to a concert, I've been dreading it food wise.

Because of the traveling and the no toilet situation as it was country lanes all the way there I didn't drink the full 3 L. I had 2 pints of water as soon as I got back. I think I had 4 pints in total so 1 pint less than normal.

I knew the food situation may be tricky, they searched bags and took food off you but I took some Atkins bars ( kept for situs like these) and ended up having both during the 8 hours we were out.

Found the only stand selling something I could have posh chicken / lamb salad wraps and thought I would just eat the meat and salad. 6 people from the front and they run out of all the meat. So a bar instead it was.

Still 0.6 lb loss this morning.

I am a serial weigher and weigh most mornings. I only log it on my official weigh in day. I know it's a real bug bear for most people but I find if the scales don't shift (mine are digital and only change by 0.2) it gives me motivation to drink more.

Is anyone else like me and have a issue with weighing daily? I'm not obsessed with it, I just like to see if I've tried something new and it works.
Like the day I tried pork scratchings and put on 2lbs first time ever for this diet so won't be having them again. They were my favourite but I had a real problem tasting them. What with the ketosis tongue and that.

YogaDrone · 13/06/2016 09:44

I'm going to try LCHF again this week and if still no weight loss I'll do Atkins induction. Also DP has started this weekend so I have someone to talk to about it.

I've set up the Health app on my phone and I'm using it to track my activity and diet. I only set it up yesterday but I'm finding it helpful. Today's menu comes in at 1737 Kcal of which 32g are carbs, 120g fat and 75g protein. Yesterday I had 1627 Kcal of which 40g were carbs, 78 fat and 99 protein. I drank 2l+ of water and made my 10,000 step target. I weighed myself this morning and had lost 0.5kg (hooray!)

Today's menu is:
breakfast - coffee with single cream. 2 slices ham and 75g smoked cheese.
lunch - smoked mackerel salad with olives, cucumber and red pepper and a little olive oil/balsamic vinegar dressing.
Supper - 3 egg omelette with asparagus, mushroom and parmesan.
Evening snack - berries and cream

I made a really nice dessert on Saturday - reasonably low carb:

Egg yolk beaten with 1 dessert spoon of granulated sweetener and some vanilla extract mixed in 250ml mascarpone cheese
Egg white whisked to stiff peaks and folded into mascarpone mixture.

I put a heaped tablespoon of this into 5 ramekins.

Chocolate sauce of 50g of 85% dark chocolate melted into 150ml double cream. I put 2 dessert spoons of the sauce on the top of each ramekin and sprinkled on a few chopped almonds.

Left this in the fridge to set for a couple of hours, then scoffed it and it was yummy Grin

The only carbs really were

YogaDrone · 13/06/2016 09:51

This article in last week's New Scientist Fats vs Carbs is interesting. Talking about LCHF and it's results on patients with type 2 diabetes.

seasidesally · 13/06/2016 22:58

Snacks over the day: cheese strip thing, pork scratchings, decent whack of cheese cake mix, SF ginger beer with some vodka

Hardly any water and about an hour to 90 mins of walking for activity.

stripeyzebra321 · 14/06/2016 08:00

I've realised looking at all your posts with your yummy food I eat very bland boring things!

I'm getting scared now as tomorrow I'm 8 weeks in, and originally set a target date of 12 weeks. For motivation purposes. I really want to reintroduce carbs by the last week July at the latest so on my last push now!

I noticed last night, my legs need work now. My inner thighs are starting to go as in they look like there melting and it's dead weight. It's odd to describe. I naturally carry weight on my belly thighs and backside with natural curves but when I lifted my leg up half my thigh was hanging down where it shouldn't be. So back to the hurtie leg lifts for me!

I'd love to know, what's all your motivation and goals and what's pushing you forward? Holiday, wedding, event?

KP86 · 14/06/2016 08:38

I'm looking a little deflated as well. Especially in my arms, but my legs are still really big and wobble with every step :( Your leg exercises should help a lot.

My motivation: I was sick of being ridiculously fat (started at 108kg) and unfit. It's my 30th birthday later this year and I want to look half decent.

Plus, with a young DS, there's the usual keeping up with him and I don't want to be the embarrassing fat parents at school. It's all vanity!

Originally I told myself I would stick to LC for three months and then switch to plain old calorie counting (maybe trying Slimming World?) but I've been LC for four months so far and it isn't killing me (yet). I haven't lost weight for a while but for me, not gaining is almost as much of a win as losing. I am hoping to fall pregnant soon and if that happens I will change to SW because there's not much research on the 'safety' of LCHF for pregnant women, but lots saying SW is ok.

I find the easiest part of LCHF is menu planning actually. Or at least sticking to a reasonable food budget. Low fat meat is especially expensive in the UK and I detest low fat dairy. Haven't eaten it for years. Plus I am loving the piles of butter and cream that we are allowed on LC!

A bit of a naughty breakfast today. I toasted half a protein roll and then made some LC Nutella by mixing coconut oil, a bit of Natvia, cocoa and a small amount of ground hazelnuts into a paste/spread. It was nice but I think I used too much sweetener. Still LC but probably the kind of thing we are meant to be avoiding.

seasidesally · 14/06/2016 09:03

mine is simple i hated being fat,for the last year have refused to look in a long mirror and was nearly an 18 in trousers and i refused to buy the next size up

also i hated it when people i hadnt seen for a while said how much weight i had put on Shock i would never say that to somebody, maybe behind their back, lol

ive alwayd been outgoing and gobby and i dont think people realised how upset it made me,and being big really knocked my confidence

but it was all my own doing and now it feels a bit of a mountain to climb (still 2stone to go)and am cross that i let myself get this big

goal loss

started end Feb wanting to lose 4stone have lost 2 stone 3lb so over half way

YogaDrone · 14/06/2016 09:12

It's interesting what you are all saying about shape changing as I think I'm a little less busty now. I may get a tape measure out and get some measurements to use as a baseline now.

My motivation at the moment is that I'm growing out of my clothes. I was a size 12 before I had DS 9 years ago (approx. 65 Kg) and then I settled post-baby weight into a 14. I'm now finding more and more that I have to buy a 16 and I want to stop the size "creep". I also have 2 weddings and formal garden party to go to this summer and I have 2 suitable outfits - both are size 14!

I've done my menu for today and my app says it's 1340 Kcal of which 27g is carbs, 68g is fat and 71g is protein. This seems low calorie but I'm not sure what I can bulk it out with.

Breakfast - 2 slices of ham and 65g of smoked cheese with tea
Lunch - 2 egg omelette with 3 frankfurters and some cheddar plus a diet coke
Dinner - fake pizza. I thought I'd do field mushrooms topped with pepperoni, cheese, olives, green peppers (i.e. stuff I would normally put on a pizza)
Evening snack of berries with cream.

I'm not sure how to balance the lack of calories with the high fat Confused

I roasted a chicken yesterday evening and thought I'd "mumsnet" it and use it across several meals, including stock for soup.

KP86 · 14/06/2016 09:17

You need some more fat. Maybe pepperoni or streaky bacon on your pizzas? Some mayo with lunch?

The idea behind this diet is to not worry about calories but stop eating when you're full. That's what I found/find difficult, I'm a bit of a greedy guys.

YogaDrone · 14/06/2016 14:53

Thanks KP

I'm not really calorie counting it's just that the app is giving me this info as well as the nutritional make up so it's hard to avoid. The thing with this diet is that I don't feel particularly hungry. Usually at work I'd want a snack by 4pm but I'm not feeling like I want one at the moment.

Yes, I think I do need more fat but I'm finding it hard to think how to put more in! I've got cheese with every meal plus I'll have pepperoni on my fake pizza, and I'm having cream with raspberries for dessert. All should be high fat Confused

I don't like fat on meat and will always remove it so I'm not going to pick up lots of fat this way. I've been trying to have cream in coffee instead of tea with skimmed milk but I just don't like it.

I got some of the Debbie and Andrews sausages but I'm struggling to put an evening meal around them as everything I traditionally do with sausages involves lots of carbs like sausage pasta and toad in the hole. I'll think of something. The bootcamp recipe thread is very helpful for this Smile

KP86 · 14/06/2016 16:58

I just serve the sausages with vegies, or some gravy. Bistro traditional powder is quite LC.

You could also serve with eggs, mushrooms and spinach as a breakfast at dinner meal.

Home made curried sausages: curry powder, beef stock cube, tblsp tomato purée concentrate, dried parsley, mushrooms, broccoli, cauli, baby spinach and enough water to cover, then simmer until everything is cooked through. Serve with dollops of sour cream/yoghurt and cauliflower rice.

seasidesally · 14/06/2016 20:57

good day so far

3 slices of bacon

2 oz's cheese

large red pepper stuffed with whole tin of tuna mixed with mayo and grated/melted cheese

4 strawberries and some sugar free jelly

have approx 150 cals left, not sure if they will be used or not

stripeyzebra321 · 14/06/2016 22:19

I see a lot of you are doing LC high fat. I may be doing it slightly different then as the only fat I'm having is on meat if it comes with fat that is and the occasional small bit of cheese I have as a snack.

I'm even having very low cal almond milk.

Problem is for me I previously did slimming world on and off for a few years and it has been drummed in and stuck with low fat everything. Plus at the time I was on those Ali/ xenical pills, ever since I can get really ill with really fatty / deep fryed foods.
Even years after taking the bloody things.

Can't wait to my weigh in tomorrow, I think I've done alright as my size 14 jeans are hanging off me. Just before Xmas I had to pinch a belt from my dad as they were so tight my rolls were forcing them down.

I've got a big box of jeans I've grown out of in the loft so I am hoping to have a route through tomorrow and praying something fits me.

Just before I started this I blew out a couple of zips and the ass went outta my leggings so I am down to my last pair of jeans and workout leggings. I bet the mums at the school think I'm a right grubby cow.

seasidesally · 14/06/2016 22:53

I see a lot of you are doing LC high fat i hope i am Grin

i aim for approx 100 fat some days over some days lower

good luck with the weigh in tomorrow

well if your clothes are lose you must be doing something right, well done

stripeyzebra321 · 15/06/2016 07:48

Weigh in day, week 8 and 3lbs lost. I'm really happy with that what with my stay the same last week. (All the way through apart from week 1 I have been getting 2.5 off)
Total of 1stone6 down, 10lbs6 to go and my bmi has come down from 29 to 25.4.

Good luck to everyone this week

YogaDrone · 15/06/2016 09:08

Thank you for the ideas for sausages KP. The curried sausages idea sounds lovely and if I have time I'll try that, otherwise I'll do one of the others.

I like the sound of stuffed peppers to seasidesally

Well done on your continued weight loss Stripey Flowers

I don't really have a philosophy - I'm aiming for low carb but appreciate that this will involve reasonably high fats to fill me up.

I have/had a menu for today but I've put it into my app and it tells me that it totals as almost 70g carbs. These seem to be mainly from onions, mushrooms and passata which I'd planed to have with meatballs for supper. Back to the drawing board.

B - ham and smoked cheese
L - chicken & pepperoni salad
D - (intended) meatballs, green peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, onions and little pasata.

I'm really missing gummy sweets so was looking at reviews of sugar free alternatives. The reviews imply that they give you stomach cramps and not to eat too many at a time. Has anyone tried sugar free sweeties?

seasidesally · 15/06/2016 09:17

brilliant news on the loss, you must be floating on a cloud,so pleased for you it gives you a real boost dosent it

you have not far to go now and great news om your BMI

the stuffed peppers are so so easy,i do them when i cant be bothered

70g carbs seems high but i aim for 20 which is strict sometimes over sometimes under, you obviously are the best judge of what your body can take,i love meatballs but have stopped putting onion in and cant taste the differrence

i think alot of people on lc use shallots as there less carbs, maybe try that if you want to bring it down

i had sugar free polos once and they had a laitive effect, ive seen the ones in M&S look nice but i didnt buy as i would just eat the packet

KP86 · 15/06/2016 10:27

Zebra, that's fantastic. You're so close to goal, keep it up! Instead of passata, use tinned tomatoes. Much lower carbs.

I've fallen off the bandwagon big time (last night's dinner was pizza!), and have a long-planned night out tonight and also one on Friday so I'm writing this week off.

I feel like I just need a bit of a break, and possibly back to the drawing board for a rethink on my strategy.

seasidesally · 15/06/2016 10:59

oh kp your so near the 94 dont write the week of completley just have a week thats a little easier on the carbs

what is your weight now

fair enough if you need a break you know how your feeling better than anyone

i must admit i sometimes find it harder going now than when i started,i get a bit complacent but its not pasta, pots etc its just chocolate which im glad because if i had cravings for pasta etc it would be a nightmare

KP86 · 15/06/2016 12:58

I haven't weighed since Monday, I was 95.1 then.

Trying to remain sensible (ha! I've said that before) and see how I go.

BIWI · 15/06/2016 13:09

KP - maybe try and cut the artificial sweeteners out for a few days and see how that goes?

KP86 · 15/06/2016 15:24

I will try that next week, BIWI. And no more protein rolls.

seasidesally · 15/06/2016 17:41

why?but i only have a half every ten days or so
