Anyone starting today who wants to keep me company?

I'm starting LCHF today. Is there anyone else who is starting now or have recently started this diet who wants to join me so we can support each other?

I need to lose at least 12 kg but would ideally want to lose 17 kg. if possible before summer is here so I don't have to feel self conscious about wearing summery clothes.

Welcome, YogaDrone. You can do it!

Back to it today everyone. {Stamps feet, hands on sizeable hips}

It's a Monday so of course my scales are back to the dreaded 95.3. As they have been for the last three weeks! But I did fall off rather badly yesterday. Cider, ice cream and curry with rice in the evening. Oh well. An overall maintain for the week is better than a gain, although not as good as a loss.

This week's goals:
~ 2L water every day
~ No alcohol. Wine box (opened since April!) is finished so that shouldn't be a problem
~ No cheat days
~ Minimum of 45 mins activity every day. After DS wakes up this afternoon we are going to walk into town for some errands and he can go to the play ground there so that will be today's sorted.

Food for today:
B: creamy coffee
MT: pork scratchings
L: protein roll with tuna mayo and cheese toasted on sandwich press; Pepsi Max
D: roasted chicken Maryland piece with LC vegies
Snack, if needed: ganache

seasidesally · 06/06/2016 14:10

Thank you for the welcome KP and SeasideSally Smile

I (weirdly) quite enjoyed Atkins and I did it with two friends which I think really helped me stick to it. It took about a year to lose the 20Kg and then I maintained for about 2 years but just couldn't keep it up while pregnant and then nursing etc... Gradually the Kgs have crept back and I want to deal with the gain before I get back to wanting to lose 20Kg again.

Today I've had breakfast of bacon and scrambled egg with tea (teaspoon of milk as I don't like cream in tea). Lunch was a chicken salad with some Caesar dressing and a sprinkle of parmesan plus a diet coke. Tonight I'm out for dinner which has been planned for weeks but it shouldn't be too difficult to be reasonable on the carbs (except for dessert should I be tempted!) plus probably a couple of glasses of dry white wine.

Tomorrow I'm back in the office so I thought I'd take a packed lunch chicken salad and some more of the Caesar salad dressing plus a pot of olives as a snack.

DS loves pasta so that will be the hardest thing to avoid over the coming weeks.

I don't do much exercise, just yoga and dog walking. I'm not much of a gym person and I don't like looking at myself in a swimming costume at the moment!

KP86 · 06/06/2016 17:36

That sounds like a good menu.

For pasta, courgetti and squash noodles are fab, and you can eat the Eat Water brand slim noodles (currently buy 1 get 1 free from Ocado, so 2 for £2.49) which are completely carb free. They aren't the same as pasta but might work for you while DS has the real thing?

what's the biggest difference between Atkins and LCHF?

KP86 · 06/06/2016 19:16

I hope tonight's dinner tastes as good as it looks.

It's pretty much (net) carb neutral as well. Only carbs coming from vegies as the noodles and sauce cancel each other out.

Roast chicken with slim noodles, mushrooms, zucchini chunks and broccoli with Philadelphia stir in garlic and herb sauce.

seasidesally · 06/06/2016 19:52

looks good enjoy KP

It's pretty much (net) carb neutral as well. Only carbs coming from vegies as the noodles and sauce cancel each other out im having a dense moment, how does that work ??

mussels were wonderful,i have kept some of the sauce and gonna use it to flavour a seafood stew this week

KP86 · 06/06/2016 20:04

I follow the rules of fibre cancelling out carbs.

So if something has 5g carbs and 5g fibre that's 0 net carbs.

The noodles have 0g carbs and 4 or 5g fibre, so they are negative carbs and so the 4.6g carbs in the sauce were cancelled out.

BIWI doesn't advocate this way of carb counting as it's the American way of doing it and she said UK already allows for this in its packaging. However, going by MFP (which I'm not using right now), the carb counts are higher on the vegies compared to her lists so I'm not too worried.

seasidesally · 06/06/2016 20:14

oh yeah i remember now, thats what i used to do,dont bother now

did you enjoy your meal,it looked delicious and filling

SheriffCallie · 06/06/2016 21:38

KP your dinner sound yum. I'm trying g to stay off dairy to see if that helps so I'll not be able to make it though. I'm missing cheese and cream with my courgetti arm.

Sally, I was confused about the cancelling ou too until KPs last post explained it too.
I've been good today after last nights cake and crisp disaster. Eggs for breakfast, no lunch as I was in such a rush leaving work to get the kids to swimming (I'm working extra hours and finding the work-life balance very precarious 😁) and mackerel roasted in olive oil, salt and spices with salad and Mayo for dinner. Had an almond milk latte earlier too but it was disappointing.
Snacking on roasted almonds now and planning tomorrow's lunch. I'm actually at training but it will be sandwiches so I'm going to take a salad with me.

SheriffCallie · 06/06/2016 21:40

Hi YogaDrone, welcome to the thread. 20kg is a massive loss, well done. Hope you are as successful this time :).
My kids eat a lot of pasta too, I've found courgetti to be a good replacement for me.

KP86 · 06/06/2016 21:50

It was quite tasty, thanks.

Good to see you're planning ahead Sheriff. Will make your day a lot better knowing you're able to stick to LC. No guilt factor!

Take your own snacks as well in case you're tempted by the tabletop sweeties like I always am.

seasidesally · 07/06/2016 16:24

yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

ok a little ott but i couldnt resist a weigh i in Boots, considering i have had approx ten days of but the naughty carbs in indulge in were sweets and chocolate and there was alot i have lost another 1.6lb i really cant believe i thought if i stayed the same or a pound or two more was expected

so total loss so far 30.6lb

started the end february 2016 till now approx 2 weeks of ish and probably the last time i was 95.7kg was about 4-5yrs ago

ie an appointment with my Psych tomorrow so he will be pleased with the loss as last time he saw me i was just over 17 stone

KP86 · 07/06/2016 16:28

You are smashing it, well done! So proud for you.

seasidesally · 07/06/2016 16:47

oh thanks KP that means loads as all you on here get it,normal life dosent understand the same

maybe i have found a diet that lets you eat choc and still lose

i keep thinking how could i lose anything as everyday i still had a main lc meal but one night i had 2 boost bars,1 mars bar,1 bounty barConfused my water consumption is terrible to

maybe when i was feeling down it burnt more cals,i really dont know as my activity was very low to

really cant work it out

same boots i always use

same time of day etc

i will shut up now

KP86 · 07/06/2016 16:57

It could have been your cycle that was causing you to bloat last time you weighed, or maybe you were still eating few enough calories during your off time to keep losing, or stress made you jittery which burnt more etc. Don't question, just roll with it, lol!

YogaDrone · 07/06/2016 17:13

well done seasidesally Excellent work Flowers

Thank you for all of the tips, I will take them on board.

Thank you for the welcome SheriffCallie. Having support from others is really important I think.

I think the difference between LCHF and Atkins is the HF part. Atkins didn't really account for fibre (as I remember) and was just about low carbs and high fat. I think from that perspective it was more unhealthy as it didn't really allow you to eat lots of fruit and vegetables. I always took a multi-vitamin just in case as I'm fairly sure I would have been deficient in certain vitamins and minerals otherwise.

I'm having asparagus and mushroom omelette topped with a little parmesan for supper with green salad (while DS and DP have their tortellini and garlic bread). Strawberries and cream for a mid-evening snack later.

seasidesally · 07/06/2016 20:14

tortellini sounds very nice,do you find it difficult when others are eating all that you cant ??

how are you finding getting back into it ??

KP86 · 07/06/2016 20:20

Getting back into it can be hard! I reckon the key is being prepared with LC-friendly food at home (and menu planning) so you've always got something to hand. For me, during the first couple of days I always go looking for snacks. Then you get used to it again and it's not too bad.

Today's food:
B: creamy coffee (might have had some choc as well, I honestly don't remember)
MT: babybel, pork scratchings, a couple of strawberries
L: Greek yoghurt with vanilla and a sprinkling of Natvia, Pepsi Max
AT: decaf creamy coffee, some choc drops, about 40-50g brie
D: fried pork belly with LC vegies in a creamy pesto sauce

Water:

BIWI · 07/06/2016 20:49

Yoga Atkins really isn't about low veg (although it is about low fruit).

And it's only in the induction phase that you have to keep your carbs really low - but even then, he strongly advocates getting your carbs from veg and salad!

seasidesally · 07/06/2016 21:05

wen i ave time i gonna read the thread from the beginning and see how far we've come

funny ting is the op that started it never came back but weve taken over it now so all is good

KP i cant bare pork scratchings anymore, have you gone of any food you used to enjoy since LC

SheriffCallie · 07/06/2016 21:59

Sally, yayyyyyyyy! Don't question it, just go with it :). Hope it continues at that rate.
KP your menu looks good. My Co-op always has pork belly on offer so I must try some. Would be nice with a Chinese 5 spice marinade.
After making an egg mayo salad to take to my training, I ended up leaving it in the car. I didn't fancy food poisoning so lunch from the buffet was a couple of whitebait with batter peeled off, an onion bhaji and the filling from half a chicken sandwich. Was starving by dinner so I really enjoyed it, Thai chicken curry with cauli-rice. Planning on doing egg fried cauli-rice for dinner tomorrow.
Yoga, how was your omelette? I'm dairy free atm so really missing Parmesan :(

seasidesally · 07/06/2016 22:56

sheriff i dont know how you manage diet free, you must have steel in your veins Grin

i like cauliflower just wish i liked the rice version,it seems really popular on lc threads

gutted you went to the trouble of the salad and couldnt have it

KP86 · 08/06/2016 07:48

Ok, today I'm going to follow my own advice and make a plan for food. No excuse to cheat, then.

B: already had a big spoon of coconut oil, so I'll have a creamy coffee and maybe egg as well.
L: tuna mayo on half a toasted protein roll with melted cheese
D: white fish lettuce tacos with salad
Snacks if needed: ganache, pork scratchings, babybel or chunk of Brie, SF fizzy drinks

seasidesally · 08/06/2016 09:08
