Anyone starting today who wants to keep me company?

I'm starting LCHF today. Is there anyone else who is starting now or have recently started this diet who wants to join me so we can support each other?

I need to lose at least 12 kg but would ideally want to lose 17 kg. if possible before summer is here so I don't have to feel self conscious about wearing summery clothes.

Great. I'm going to be LC tomorrow and then Monday will try recording what im eating

ihatethecold · 23/04/2016 20:46

Do you use my fitness pal to log?

KP86 · 23/04/2016 21:16

Yep, MFP.

You can change the settings on the nutrients tab to show fibre as one of the key categories. I always have carbs next to fibre so I can easily do the sums to see my net carb position.

seasidesally · 24/04/2016 15:35

omg thought id have some Tesco finest sausages/green beans/brussell sprouts and they have 10 carbs,ok they have 4 fibre but had no idea they were so high

will have them as bought and prepared them but wont be having to many in the future

BIWI · 24/04/2016 15:46

If they're Tesco's, then you don't deduct the fibre. It's only American foods that do that I'm afraid!

seasidesally · 24/04/2016 15:51

omg it gets worse Smile

KP86 · 24/04/2016 16:07

BIWI, I've been deducting the fibre from all my carbs?

ihatethecold · 24/04/2016 16:10

ok, now im confused. i was just about to change my settings on my fitness pal.

BIWI · 24/04/2016 16:12

No - that's only American food labelling. On UK labels fibre is listed separately. If you've been deducting it, sadly you are under counting your carbs!

BIWI · 24/04/2016 16:13

See here

ihatethecold · 24/04/2016 16:18

so should i be keeping my carbs under 20 on MFP?
what else should i re adjust on there?

KP86 · 24/04/2016 16:18

Oh. Oops. In that case I will have been going over my carbs quite a bit... but still losing weight so not the end of the world I guess.

seasidesally · 24/04/2016 16:18

oh well thanks for the heads up

ihatethecold · 24/04/2016 16:23

Hmmm, Ive just sen on MFP that i cant change my carbs to grams instead of % without paying to upgrade my account.

Great!
any other apps i can use instead?

KP86 · 24/04/2016 16:32

I just worked out what it would be as a percentage of my total cal and did it that way. It says my goal is 18 or 19g but obviously I know that's not accurate and just look at the total number in the left column rather than goal on the right.

KP86 · 24/04/2016 16:33

BIWI, can I check then, do you have a list of carbs in common vegies (even a link to your other threads would be handy) that I can look at to see how it compares to what I have been using?

BIWI · 24/04/2016 16:37

Yes - if you look for the latest Bootcamp chat thread (called something like Final weigh-in), and then click the link to the spreadsheet which will be on the OP, then look at the tabs at the bottom you'll find a veg carb counter there.

One thing I've found over the years, though, is that carb counts do vary enormously - I've got two books and they both give different values for some things! The carb counts on the list I'm pointing you towards is one that I got from another low carb website that I used to use.

Take them as guidance rather than gospel fact!

KP86 · 24/04/2016 16:44

Thanks, will check it out.

KP86 · 24/04/2016 16:47

Your carb counts are much, much lower than what I have been using in MFP.

Eg. your says broccoli is 1.1/100g, mine is 6.6C - 2.6F to give net 4/100g.

So hard to figure out!

BIWI · 24/04/2016 16:57

Ah. That may well be because MFP is an American site? (I think - I've never used it)

KP86 · 25/04/2016 19:57

I'mmmmm bbaaccccckkkk!

Bloody DH ate all the eggs over the weekend so I've had to improvise food a little today.

B: pork scratchings and tea
L: Brie cheese (I know, this is a wonderful day so far)
AT: SF jelly, more scratchings, decaf coffee
D: Mexican mince (so spicy!), sour cream, cheese and salad, SF lemonade and ginger beer
S: will make some ganache

Activity: walking for around an hour doing some errands this morning

Net carbs: 10g

Too scared to weigh myself and see how bad I am after the weekend...

ihatethecold · 25/04/2016 20:40

Well that's different!
Well done for sticking too it without any proper meals.

KP86 · 25/04/2016 20:42

It was a big piece of cheese, lol

KP86 · 25/04/2016 20:44

PS. I've been reading your other thread and it is making me not look forward to the teenage years. Luckily DH works in IT but I reckon DS will be way smarter than us. He is only 2 and can already use the iPad way better than I would like.

ihatethecold · 25/04/2016 21:42

He is a good lad actually. He is doing his GCSEs and has to get 5 B's to go to his preferred/local 6th form.
If not it's a right trek to the city one.
We live quite rurally.
He won't get B's without revising a lot and that means sleeping at a decent time.
