Just wanted to say hello and see if any other new starters wanted to buddy up for support and advice?

I've got 3 - 4 stone to lose, all gained AFTER having my DS who is now - god help me - 5. All down to long-term sleep deprivation and sugar reliance, and forming terrible habits. And wine to help me cope with the sleep deprivation,

Anyway, hoping to finally turn things around now that he's finally sleeping (sometimes until 5.30am!). Would love to chat to others who are finding that this WOE works for them.

Me!! In on day one today:-) Need to lose 4/5 stone I think...
I am aiming to be able to buy size 14 clothes-currently a size18/20.
My first goal is a ball at the end of October-going to try and be a stone down by then.

2 years ago I lost 5 stone low carbing

Didn't finish the job tho. Put on 2 stone.

Just lost a stone during sept by low carbing and now aiming for 7 lb minimum for October. Had to ditch low carbing a bit when I took up running and then I trained for and ran London marathon this year which made me actually put on weight!!

Currently sat waiting for the postman to find out if I've got a place again for next year, either way, need to lose perhaps another 2 stone now

Hello missy111 and MissFit68 - nice to meet you!

Sounds like we all have a decent amount to lose, which will help to keep us motivated. How did you find day one missy?

I've now done 3 days and feel alright, though it's not rocket science. Still feels strange to not reach for a piece of fruit, but there are worse things in the word!

Did you get your place MissFit? Well done, I can't imagine running a marathon! I do two spin classes and one swim a week, but can't fit anything else in on top of work, kids and studying.

Do either of you have any suggestions as to how to handle a family dinner this weekend? I'm driving, so that's easy, no drinking, but I just don't know what's being served. Don't want to draw attention to myself by mentioning the D word. So frustrating as I wanted my 2-week boot camp to be perfect, but real life can't be avoided!

Anyway, really lovely to have some support along the way. I'd love to be two stone down by Christmas, but we'll see! xxx

Today I've done ok. I log everything on mfp as well, just to keep an eye on calories,I'm under everyday and try not to 'eat' my exercise calories. Dinner tonight was bacon/egg/mushrooms

Are you going to a restaurant for dinner?

Exciting! I used to do MFP too but I'm just too greedy to count calories, so this seems to be far. I have a rare day off today just to do some studying and gardening, so I need to be careful not to blow it!

No, to their house, so totally out of my control. As luck would have it (honestly!), I have just started a course of anti-biotics for an infected insect bite, so I'm going to play the unwell card, and pick at my food, and make sure I do an extra burst of exercise!

How are you both feeling today?

Done a couple of days's not too bad. I'm making a big effort to drink loads of water, and have instructed the canteen staff (I'm a teacher) not to sell me anything other than salad!!
Hard when everyone else loves food like lasagne for tea though:-(
We had roast chicken which was good, but struggling to organise family meals
That don't involve me eating one thing and them another

Dominos pizza is in the house, I'm 2 flights of stairs up away from it!! It needs to go!! Ds needs to eat it all

I've been on my feet at work all day. Done ok. Done ok all month so far apart from a glass of red wine and handful of Doritos last night. I was a bit disappointed to get no London marathon place.... So to cheer myself up I entered Brighton marathon ballot and signed up for Silverstone half marathon Grin

I had sausage and salad...didn't look half as good as the lasagne!!
I'm afraid i have no intention of giving up alcohol-that wouldn't be good for anyoneSmile
It's breakfast I am struggling with-I love cereal. Having yogurt at the moment but would love some ideas

I'm off to Manchester tomorrow to pick up a dress I've orders for a ball at the end of the month-so I may need to be ultra strict after tomorrow if it doesn't fitConfused

Hello you two!

Well done on resisting pizza AND lasagna...both very hard things to not cave into and both things I could happily go nuts with. Hence my current weight.

Sorry about the London marathon Miss, but amazing that you've entered the others. I live just outside Brighton, it's a gorgeous route apparently! And don't feel bad about the red wine and Doritos - real life has to be dealt with with sensible tactics and sometimes that tactic is wine!

Missy - breakfast...tricky one. Can you have yogurt with a handful of chopped nuts to add a bit of crunch? I know nuts aren't technically allowed (or at least not many) but sometimes a bit of a tweak isn't bad. I'm one of those weird people who can eat left-over Indian take-away for breakfast, so an omelet each morning is heaven!

Separate meals, yep, nightmare, but I guess this isn't for ever. DS is five so I just make him something easy at 5pm (pasta, beans on toast) and eat my tea with him. I throw a big pot of something togetehr for DP (sausage stew, or chuck a baked potato in the oven) and he eats later anyway. I'm studying every evening so I'm getting away with not eating with him, though I am missing my Friday night risotto and red wine...

Can you do something really easy for you like tuna mayo (I know, not ideal with winter coming), or assemble components that you eat a bit of (like sausage + mash + a green veg?). I have no answers, esp as I haven't told DP I'm on this diet! I always seem to self-sabotage the minute I open my mouth about yet another diet I'm on...

Lunch out in the end was fine - I had three tiny fishcakes my SIL made, with veg, left the potatoes, pudding, booze AND cheese and biscuits. Lots and lots and lots of water, but tbh honest being on antibiotics is a great cover story for not drinking/no appetite!

Hope the rest of the weekend goes well. Good luck with the dress, Missy - if it doesn't fit, don't throw this week away and give up. Have you got a back-up frock for now, and save the gown for Christmas/something special?

Could I join you?
I am trying to do the Paleo thing, I would love to say purely for health reasons....but I really want to lose weight!! I have had 5 children, littlest is almost 1 eldest is 12, I love (or previously loved....!) baking, but also eating the results....
I am currently 10st8,but 4 days ago when I started I was 10 st 11!
So something is working I hope. I would like to be about 9st, I am 5 foot 2, but I am quite umm, curvy.
Generally we eat well as a family, organic mainly and meat eaters. Lots of fresh and raw veg etc. But I love a cake too and chocolate and wine....oh dear. Anyway, I would love to reenergise myself, I am heading for forty and want to meet middle age with all guns blazing!
I welcome all advice re cravings, as I am suffering on that front!

My dress fits-though it'll look better if I can shift half a stone by the end of the month.. Just need to buy some shoes and jewellery !
Slipped slightly today-but back on it tomorrow!
Going to go have yogurt for breakfast, chicken breast at break, then a salad for lunch, shake for afternoon snack and haven't decided what's for dinner yet-but it'll be low carb-might do some kind of casserole.

Hello devon, lovely to meet you!

Your story sounds similar to the rest of us - eating well but too much of the other stuff (wine, in my case!), plus very busy lives (5 kids, you must be exhausted, I can barely handle one wild 5 year old) and motivation.

I have been on every bloody diet I can think of, but my five years of sleep deprivation (the first three were horrendous, if I was lucky I'd get three hours unbroken a night), triggered a massive sugar addiction which I'm only just managing to get under control. I don't have any advice on your cravings - maybe just keep chucking down the water when it looms up, or have a fruity tea?

Plus, I get hungry! So fasting and calorie counting, I always fail. I think I have been eating too many carbs my whole life basically; not weighed yet (tomorrow!), but jeans def feel looser....

Missy, congrats on the dress front, you must be really pleased, and you'll get there by the end of the month.

Can I ask you all a weird question about eggs? How many do you eat a day, because I am on 4 a day! And today I ate 7 (3-egg omelet with mushrooms for breakfast, 2 as a snack, another omelet for tea with steamed broccoli. I eat fish but not meat so they are a really handy source of protein for me.

I might just google 'are eggs bad for you'.Blush

Probably have a little over 2st to lose but would LOVE to see the top of my knickers when I look down, rather than flab!!

Hi everyone, I'm on day one (again!). I tried low carbing earlier this year and lost about 12lbs in two weeks but I stuck to the plan religiously for another three weeks and the scales just wobbled up and down by 0.2lbs the entire time. I was teetering on the edge of the stone bracket and I gave up out of sheer frustration.

I weighed in this morning at 14st 6lbs, BMI 33.6. My ultimate goal is 9st 6lbs but the lowest I've ever been as an adult is 12st 10lbs so that feels like an impossible dream at the moment Sad

Well done shark - 5 pounds is fab! I weighed this morning, 10st7. so that is 4 pounds lost in a week. I have found it hard to go cold turkey, so I have not been as strict as I should be and had a carby thing most days. So i will try to be more strict this week. I hate the horrible sugar cravings.

astone your knicker comment made me laugh - I agree!

What do you all choose for breakfast? I have eggs, avocado and sometimes mushrooms or meat as well. I dont want to eat bacon as I dont want the nitrates, but I do eat 100% pork sausage sometimes with breakfast.

Last week I felt amazing for a couple of days, really energised, but then the cravings started and now I feel hungry quite a lot, but I don't think it's real hunger, more that I want to eat something sweet. I did invent a droink which helped me feel satisfied:

1 teaspoon of raw cacoa powder, 1 teaspoon coconut oil, warmed up coconut milk (add cardomom, clove, cinnamon stick for a more chai taste), make a paste with cacoa and a bit of the hot milk and the oil, then pour on warm milk to make smooth hot chocolate type thing. raw cocao doesn't have any sugar, but it is supposed by quite nutritious. I don't know why I ended up with some in my husband is a functional movement therapist and does nutrition (how embaressing that I am still overweight!) - he does paleo and this thing called bullet proof diet, which is high fat, so I think it might be something to do with his work - anyway, came in very handy!

I haven't heard of a bulletproof diet but I do drink bulletproof coffee when I'm low carbing, it's delicious and so creamy!

That's the stuff helena - there is a whole diet too. I don't drink coffee so not tried it. He once made a version for the kids with cocoa butter, but it didn't go down well!

Hello to all the new people - how lovely to see this group growing (and shrinking, hopefully!).

And I am also sniggering about the knicker comment; I'm still wearing those big old granny knickers you wear after having a baby, cos then at least I can kid myself that I don't have 4 spare tyres...

Helena - I am also aiming for a weight I've not been since I was in my 20's, 11 stone. I'm now 14.12 after my first week's 5 pound loss, and If I get to 13 for Christmas, I'd be thrilled. That's 2 pounds a let's dream that impossible dream anyway! Grin

Well done to you, too devon, that's a great loss, and great to have a partner who will def support you. My DP still doesn't, but that's more because I tend to self-sabotage when I shout about being on a diet!

I also had the hunger thing, so I just ate the stuff I'm allowed to, keep drinking water, and it seemed to calm down. I had a pot of Total full fat yogurt today and god, it was delicious.

My sweet tooth has seemed to have subsided, anyway, I think it's a wine tooth, tbh, and being on a course of anti-biotics means I can't drink anyway (but I will be next week!).

Perhaps someone else here has a good solution for the sugar cravings.

My average day is:

Breakfast: omelet made with butter (ye gods, what a treat!)
Snack: yogurt or a small pot of tuna & mayo
Lunch: big spinach salad with either salmon, tuna mayo, tofu & olives
Dinner: I tend to be pretty full by this point, and as I eat early, at 5pm with my 5 yo, a couple of boiled eggs are enough for me.

Helena - what's bulletproof coffee? I'm very interested in that!

Is anyone else completely avoiding cheese? I love it, and I worry that if I have a piece, I won't stop!

Anyway, good luck everyone with week 2 of boot-camp (or whatever stage you're at), and keep posting!
