Hello! Day One Done - anyone want to join me?

SharkSkinThing · 29/09/2015 20:43

Just wanted to say hello and see if any other new starters wanted to buddy up for support and advice?

I've got 3 - 4 stone to lose, all gained AFTER having my DS who is now - god help me - 5. All down to long-term sleep deprivation and sugar reliance, and forming terrible habits. And wine to help me cope with the sleep deprivation,

Anyway, hoping to finally turn things around now that he's finally sleeping (sometimes until 5.30am!). Would love to chat to others who are finding that this WOE works for them.

xx

I've had 1/2 a bottle of prosecco & a large pizza. Rest of the day went well on the plus side!
Good news on the jeans Devon, can't wait to get back in mine & be able to move! I second the Ella book too, just reading it makes you want to stock the fridge & eat healthily

SharkSkinThing · 10/10/2015 21:54

Drooling at ready's description. :-)

Well done on the jeans Devon!!! We went to Blackpool yesterday-ended up in Harry Ramsden's for tea-can't get much higher carb than fish & chips!! Then I've just had toast for breakfast Confused
Need to get back on it today!

readyforsunshine · 11/10/2015 09:43

Hang on in until weigh day shark, you know it'll be worth it x

devoncreamtea · 11/10/2015 14:13

Hi all! Thanks for all the well dones!

Erm... Last night I ate crisps and wine.....think I got a bit too pleased with myself!

Weekends are hard aren't they? I get to Friday, knackered and pretty much at the end of my tether with the children, dogs, housework, fitting in with all my partner's stuff and I just want to do something to reward myself. Being as I am basically physically attached to my house/children - it is hard to think of a way of doing that that doesn't involve wine/food.....!!

Yum, a nice plate of watercress and fish......

Having said that, I did eat 2 steaks so not all bad....2 steaks!!! Madness.

missy I love fish and chips! Definitely would have found that hard to resist!

I think I might have lucked out a bit on the temptation front, by having a health freak for a partner, the 'bad' choices are all on me (literally!!)

On the other hand, I do sometimes feel a bit judged if I do slip up...

So how are your Sunday's? Opportunity for a meat feast of a roast? Sadly lacking on the roast potato front though, but sweet potato mash - nearly as good. (No, obviously, but we'll pretend we don't think that..!!)

Weigh in tomorrow shark - stay strong! And enjoy your yummy salmon (love salmon)

Ooh, I found another way of staving off the odd craving: sardines in olive oil, eaten out of the tin - oddly, really nice!

SharkSkinThing · 11/10/2015 18:46

I am sticking my fingers in my ears - la la la - at all the mentions of chips and wine, and will be going to bed at 8pm to just stop myself from inhaling a bottle of wine!

Tomorrow has better be bloody worth it!

devon I totally get the weekend feeling hard, so want to join family with porridge and marmite toast, then beans on toast at lunch with grated cheese....they had roast but I had scrambled eggs and cabbage. Don't get to close to me tomorrow, people!

I even made banana and chocolate chip bread for pudding (I volunteered to load the dishwasher at this point!). I am missing the same shared meals a little this week though as it's those (and wine, lovely wine, and cheese, and crisps) that helped make me fat, I have no one to blame but myself!

Anyone feel like confessing something shocking (food related!) to keep us (me) motivated? Mine was that I would eat dinner with DS (or at least snaffle an extra fishfinger or 4) and STILL eat a full meal with DP. And drinking 3 - 4 bottles of wine a week. By myself. Blush

Writing that has made me feel like an awful person but made me realise I don't want to go back there.

Roll on tomorrow. xx

It is so easy to take your eye of the ball shark - especially when we are all bringing up kids, at home a lot - a touch bored etc etc. I have so many food confessions! I have eaten packets of biscuits in one go; I would never choose a small choc bar but a big 100g one and eat it all at once too....I remember feeling a bit anxious if there was no 'treat' food available when I finally got the kids to bed in the evening. i think it is to do with being a bit bored by the groundhog day nature of being a mum to little children - it definitely doesn't make you a bad person.

I keep reminding myself that I am doing this for me, so I can feel and look better - and so the outside me, reflects the inside me - I feel young and energetic and mischievous, but that doesn't come across in my body and appearance anymore.

Hope tomorrow's result gives you the boost you deserve - you are doing really well to balance your new way of eating with what your family want and expect from their food. It isn't easy, but you're doing it! Yay!

Blodss · 12/10/2015 01:01

Im doing paleo/low carb and have lost just over a stone since the end of June. I decided to eat as clean as possible as I wanted to make the food I eat nourish my body. It really helped to make the change to this way of eating easy. I don't eat processed food nor dairy. I do eat fruit and veg but not potatoes.

My favourite breakfast is a homemade granola made of mixed ground nuts, seeds, coconut, flaxseeds, dates and chopped banana with a little almond milk. It is delicious.

missy111 · 12/10/2015 06:50

I'm back on it today!! No more sabotaging from me..it's also so much easier when I'm at work!

SharkSkinThing · 12/10/2015 09:58

Woo hoo, missy! Good for you - and yes, I agree. Work days, easy peasy - weekends, eek! I think that's why I made Monday my weight day, it focuses me over the weekend! And, I stayed strong last night, and had a plain yoghurt whilst DP worked his way through a bowl of salted peanuts (my Achilles heel).

Speaking of which....3 off this week! So I've gone from a starting weight of 15.3 to 14.9, a total of 8lbs so far. Very, very pleased!

Hoping that so long as I don't get cocky and self-sabotage I'll be 2 stone down by Christmas, with 1.5 to tackle in the new year.

Thanks for everyone support, esp devon who made me LOL with her chocolate confession. Made me feel like I'm not a freak!

It IS hard trying to accommodate family into weight loss, I do think as parents we often come quite low down the list of priorities, I certainly don't do the exercise I used to and now have to cram it in at work at lunch time twice a week.

Welcome, Blodds, that is a delicious sounding brekkie. A stone is brilliant, well done.

I may be a bit off the radar the next few days, as my mum is visiting for the week. I'm 42 but I still get super-excited when I know I'm going to see my mum! She's hilarious.

So I expect I will be drinking wine and eating nuts (I guess technically/officially I can do boot-camp lite this week), but will not stress about it.

Have great weeks everyone. Smile Wink Smile

Just lost my message!!!

It was long and rambley, but I don't have time to rewrite so the salient points:

shark well done!!! And enjoy your mum!

blodds hello!

And...exercise- discuss!

Got to run..

SharkSkinThing · 12/10/2015 14:27

devon thanks! So looking forward to wine o clock!

Exercise - 2 x 45 minutes spin classes a week. A 30 minute swim if I can find the time. Digging on the allotment. That's it. But I always make sure I do the spins, religiously. xx

Well done shark, glad you got the weigh in you deserve. Bad w/e for me I'm afraid. Was out with dd yesterday & had 1/2 a cheese & onion sandwich as alternative was burgers or cake. Came home intending to have bolognese with kale but after sharing other half of the bottle of prosecco with Dh (haven't seen him all w/e) resolve was weakened so had spaghetti instead of kale then 2 glasses of red & a plate of cheeseShock
Consequently today has been a carb heavy hangover day, stupid, stupid, stupid me!
Back to it tomorrow, a case of damage limitation before weds weigh in

Blodss · 12/10/2015 23:16

Thanks Shark. Have a lovely time with your Mum

readyforsunshine · 14/10/2015 08:34

Where is everyone? Hopefully sticking at it. 1st week & im 3lbs down, prob only 1/2 of that I can honestly claim as the other half was total recent excess bloat that should have come off with a return to normal eatingBlush still it's a loss & enough to make me keep plodding on.
I have been off exercise due to illness but I'm hoping to get back to it. Besides walking the dog & riding, I enjoy v gentle running & Pilates. Have a good day

SharkSkinThing · 14/10/2015 10:59

Hey there ready. I'm here!

Sounds lie you are doing really well and count the bloat! A loss is a loss! Sorry to hear you've been unwell - are you ok?

Managing to stick to it even though I have family down and we went out for lunch yesterday. I had poached eggs and smoked salmon with hollandaise sauce on a toasted muffin. God, it was bloody awesome!

Making aubergine curry for everyone tonight, so will have that with some yoghurt but will skip the rice/bread/bhajis! Will treat myself to some prawns, though! And I will be having wine tonight (and nuts!).

Spin class for me today too.

How is everyone else getting along? xxxx

Hi all! I am here! Well doneready - good work!

Well I have weirdly plateaued on the loss front and am stuck at 10 st 2. I am absolutely dying for the first number to be a 9! Maybe next week....?

Had haircut today. First time for about 6 years!!!!! I just let it grow long as it was easier not to think about it, but it has gone all dry and weird (and a bit grey) so I cut off my ponytail.....turns out that is not a good look, so I had to go to the hairdressers! It was nice actually once I got over my embarrassment - I now have a choppy wonky bob type thing. I am going back for some highlights next week too. I have decided to start doing a bit more for myself from now on - not loads - (what can I do with 5 kids??!) - but just not ignoring myself.

I find myself really wanting meat.....went out for lunch after haircut today (decadent) all I really wanted was a cup of tea and a gluten free brownie, but I opted for a beat root, goats cheese, pecan and carrot salad - no dressing - and....a glass of water. I felt quite good about that! But all I could think while chomping away, was 'this would be amazing with a steak' !!! Hmmmm. Watch out cows.

Hope everyone is feeling good and enjoying their food today x

readyforsunshine · 15/10/2015 06:56

Hi all. I had a sneaky weigh in this morning & we're weight twins Devon! I know that desperate to get under 9 feeling but mostly I miss my clothes, even if I can get into the them I'm so uncomfortable! Last time I lost weight at least I was shrinking inside my baggy clothes & had the excitement of a shopping trip to look forward to. Try not to worry about the plateau, you're doing well. Stick at it & drink lots of water. Last time when I plateaued I'd try to introduce a new thing to shake things up a bit eg make supper early then try to have nothing else until bfast or up my exercise, an extra dog walk even if just a short one. Good for you with the haircut!
Shark eggs Benedict are my fave, have a nice week with your mumSmile

devoncreamtea · 16/10/2015 13:25

Ha Ha! ready I like the idea of a weight twin! Still stick at bloody 10st 2. I keep weighing every morning, but it is just stuck....I am being pretty committed, no sugar, no starchy stuff, lots of greens and meat and fish etc. Resisting my daughter's home made cinnamon buns was pretty torturous...!!

I will try your suggestions and see whether that moves things on. I have had wine this week..so better curb that from now on too.

Urgh. Am tired. And I just don't dancy bloody mackerel for lunch....oh well!

Had my friend on the phone, who is going through a divorce. I have known her and her ex since uni, we were all friends - he has been a total arsehole, it is very upsetting. They have 2 kids.

SharkSkinThing · 17/10/2015 09:22

Hello everyone! Mum gone now Sad and back to normality. I drank more than I had planned to, but I stuck - 100% - to the food, so feeling pleased about that. If I stay the same on Monday, that's cool.

I missed a spin class as a meeting at work ran over, but that's life. We're just about to head off for a mega walk in the woods.

devon - so sorry to hear about your friend. Sounds very sad for all involved. All of my friends seem to be having ill/dying parents at the moment. We are all getting older I guess!

I think I read that week 3 can often be a plateau week, so don't lose heart, it'll catch up again.

Right, the sun is out, we need to go and make the most of it here on the Sussex coast. Have good weekends everyone, will post again soon. xxx

OP posts:
readyforsunshine · 17/10/2015 18:43

Devon, for me I think adding in a new trick helps me mentally iykwim, keeps me from getting bored & slipping somehow, the plateau will shift if you stick at it.
Your walk sounds lovely shark, I've been working. We're out to dinner with friends tonight so little control of what I'm eating, really fancy a drink too...
Need to get a bit more hardcore if I'm to have a loss by next weds.

devoncreamtea · 18/10/2015 19:13

Wait for it.......10 st!! Huzzah!

However have had a shocker of weekend, with my daughter admitted to hospital yesterday morning with an abscess in her face! Caused by an infection coming from a tooth she chipped last year. Utter nightmare. She was on a drip for antibiotics and they wanted to operate last night, but then an emergency came in so they delayed - by the morning the consultant decided it was improving on the Meds so no need for general anaesthetic and she can have the tooth removed on Monday by the dentist. She was so brave. She is only 6.

In good spirits now - enjoying the extra attention from her siblings!!

I hope everyone else's weekend was better than mine?!

Anyone weighing in tomorrow, good luck! It sounds like everyone is having some success with this way of eating, how many of us will make it a lifestyle choice, I wonder? I am liking the more stable less hungry feeling, but missing toast. I must confess to having eaten a big bar of green and blacks almond last night, it was delicious and I was feeling very sad, so I am unrepentant!!!

idareyou · 18/10/2015 19:39

Hi, could I join you all? I am overweight and fighting the flab. I feel so much better when I low carb and what I enjoy most is having stable blood sugars without the massive I'm-going-to-eat-my-own-arm if I don't have food swings. If I am focussed and prepared then it is easy but as soon as I don't plan what to have then a carby option is always easier. I have a dh and a 5yr old ds. Dh could also do with losing some weight and tries to low carb too, but drinks tea with sugar and a banana everyday. Ds is a resistant eater so I just cook what he will eat. Our biggest problem is alcohol as we enjoy a drink and have at least one everyday. But not from tomorrow! The line in the sand has been drawn and we need to get going with being healthier. Shopping tomorrow so off to hit the low carb cook books for inspiration!

SharkSkinThing · 18/10/2015 20:29

Devon that's bloody awesome - well done!!!! A much deserved weigh-in. Grin. How much do you want to lose now?

But awww, your poor DD, how gruesome for her (and how terrifying for you). I hope she gets better very soon and the dentist is gentle with her. And yes, she gets to lap up all of the attention for at least a week! My DS is 5, so it's all so terrifying for them still!

Yes, I think this is permanent way of eating for me now...at least until Christmas! I am also loving how much less starving I feel and you are right, stable is a good word. I haven't binged or eaten over 20g of carbs a day since I started (week 4 tomorrow) , but have enjoyed wine this week!

idareyou welcome! I am (was) the same as you - a carb head with a 5yo DS and a drink problem! But you can do it! Just print the list off of foods you can have and go for it. I ate tons the first few days and it did feel weird not having pasta/rice/bread, but once I got into the swing of it, I haven't looked back.

I've lost eight pounds in three weeks (and have still enjoyed a drink, I managed 10 days without one though!) and am hoping for steady loss of 2 a week until I get to my goal (now 14.9, want to be 12).

Are you all prepared for tomorrow? xxx
