Hello! Day One Done - anyone want to join me?

SharkSkinThing · 29/09/2015 20:43

Just wanted to say hello and see if any other new starters wanted to buddy up for support and advice?

I've got 3 - 4 stone to lose, all gained AFTER having my DS who is now - god help me - 5. All down to long-term sleep deprivation and sugar reliance, and forming terrible habits. And wine to help me cope with the sleep deprivation,

Anyway, hoping to finally turn things around now that he's finally sleeping (sometimes until 5.30am!). Would love to chat to others who are finding that this WOE works for them.

xx

Argh, I ended yesterday with THREE chocolate bars and a cream cake. I'm so annoyed and embarrassed. I've gotten back on it this morning though, lots of lovely cheese, avocado, meat and green veggies. I'm in the office all day and then at college 6-9pm so I won't eat dinner until late, but it will be something featuring chicken breast.

Bulletproof coffee is a brilliant way to start the day and get lots of lovely fat. I make a cup of coffee and tip it into a measuring jug, then add 1tbsp butter, 1tbsp of coconut oil and a drizzle of double cream. I whiz it up with my milk frother whisk-y thing and then put it back in the cup with a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg. It's like a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks Grin You need to whiz it together though, stirring it doesn't mix it properly.

SharkSkinThing · 06/10/2015 14:43

helena!!!! Grin

Still, if you're going to go for it, GO for it, I say. Thanks for the coffee recipe, sounds a bit bloody amazing.

Hi All
How are we? Doing ok here...just had a takeaway, so I ordered a chicken kebab and just didn't eat the pitta bread.
Which is less bad..wine or gin and tonic? I need a drink!!!!!!

SharkSkinThing · 06/10/2015 20:09

Missy (not that I have this memorized for next week), but I think the best drinks are vodka & soda, champagne, or red wine.

Or, have the G&T and you won't care either way! Wink

SharkSkinThing · 06/10/2015 20:10

...and well done on the takeaway choice...not easy!

Hi, can I join?
I want to lose a stone which has crept on since last year. I had an extra few lbs to shed going into the summer but have been unwell, so exercise stopped & I turned to carbs for energy. I'm really hoping to get out of the cycle & back to feeling energised & in my old clothes. All my 'fat' trousers are now skinnies! Alcohol is a killer for me, it not only derails my day but I NEED toast & sugar the following day. Cutting down is hard though isnt it?

SharkSkinThing · 07/10/2015 07:53

Hi ready, nice to meet you! Sorry to hear you have been unwell.

Yep, I think we're all guilty of carbs and booze as crutches - I know I am.

But you can def do it, look at all the threads above to see how others are making it work for them.

Don't think of it as cutting down, just avoiding for now, the wine and carbs will still be there after the first two weeks, and real life still has to be lived!

I am about 2/3 through the 2 week boot camp, and it's pretty fine so far. Lost 5 pounds the first week, and as long as I stay at a steady 2 pounds a week til Christmas, I'll be thrilled.

Lots of other positive stories here too (and some funny ones!).

Good luck and keep possting!

xx

Can I join, dc4 is 7 weeks old and I have 22kg (daren't find out how much that is in stone) to lose, will have to be sensible as I'm breastfeeding but I'm 40 at the end of November and would like to look fairly reasonable. I usually weigh around 62/3kg and have already lost a substantial chunk thanks to water retention, and the 22kg is what's left, but would seriously love to throw the maternity clothes in the bin now!

SharkSkinThing · 07/10/2015 13:51

Hi cath, and welcome.

Well done on being so focused...my DS is 5 and I'm only just getting to grips with the weight loss monster!

Def a good idea to be sensible, esp when breastfeeding, there might be some links to lc'ing when b'feeding which might help (all I remember about b'feeding is being ravenous for jaffa cakes!) Grin

Weighing in kgs - good idea!

Best of luck. xx

Good luck with the weigh in missy. I'm going to try to watch the bake off final with nothing but tea!

SharkSkinThing · 07/10/2015 20:09

I daren't go near the kitchen. I've had a fucker of a day and could happily upend a bottle of red and a pile of cheese and oat cakes.

Let us know how to get on missy! xx

Hope you stayed strong shark. I went to bed at 9 to stop myself emptying the fridge even though I wasn't hungry!
Are you all following a plan ? I'm just trying to cut sugar & the obv carbs, bread, pasta, potatoes, alcohol etc.

missy111 · 08/10/2015 08:06

Woop!! 6lbs off!!! I was very restrained last night and my friend and I shared 1 bottle of wine...
Sounds like everyone else is doing well tooSmile

SharkSkinThing · 08/10/2015 08:45

Missy - well done!!!!! Really thrilled for you!!!!!

Thanks, ready - I did stay strong, and I did a cheeky weigh this morning as a treat (!), and it looks like I'm down another 3 already, which will keep me motivated!

I'm doing the 2-week Bootcamp 100%. My mum is down next week and I'll allow myself some wine and some nuts but I am not going to go off-carbs.

I am been so low about my weight this last year (avoiding photos even when my DS is in them, which is ludicrous and sad, he doesn't give a fuck what I look like), that I am determined to finally carck this.

How is everyone else doing? xxx

Another newbie if that's ok?

My day 1 today. I have about 3 stone to lose. I'm vegetarian and I'm a type 2 diabetic which is uncontrolled. TBH I've not really tried, its always been an invisible disease to me.

I had my yearly eye screen and I have small changes so I HAVE to face facts and do something about it.
I have depression and and often turn to food - mostly carbs (crisps etc) so this is going to be tough.

The dieticians say to eat carbs with every meal but I know going low carb will help me the most.

readyforsunshine · 08/10/2015 14:12

Well done missy, let that motivate you & don't do as I do, get complacent (cocky!) & I'm back where I started post w/e!?
Shark I was in your shoes a few years ago when mine were little, I was determined to get the weight down before I hit 40 when everyone tells you it gets harder. I felt so much better & it took years off me. I never want to get back to where I was & feel cross enough at having a stone to lose, but I know it's doable.
Lois perhaps ease yourself in swapping some high /bad carbs for veg like sweet potatoes & swede or brown rice. it may help your diabetes? Obv not an expert!

devoncreamtea · 08/10/2015 21:22

Hi all! Some great losses and brilliant commitment going on! Helena I love your honesty!! And I have so done that on too many occasions to count! Well done for getting straight back on track.

I weighed this morning - 10st3!! So 8 pounds since I started last week, can't believe it!

My cravings have pretty much gone (if someone handed me some chocolate and wine I wouldn't be able to resist though!) and I feel sort of more stable blood sugar wise if that makes sense. I am less hungry I think - is that normal?! I find coconut oil amazing for filling you up, and I have that drink I mentioned most afternoons to power me through tea and bedtime!

Hi lois - I had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy and I found that low carb was great for it. I even lost weight while preg!! Put it back on after though - breastfeeding cake habit....!

I'm finding smoked mackerel a bit of a handy thing - having it at lunch with a salad or morning with my eggs. And eating green things at every meal. Just made kale crisps! Not bad (slight bitter after taste - but it is kale I suppose!)

SharkSkinThing · 09/10/2015 08:20

Hello everyone and a big warm welcome to all new people.

I cracked last night (10 days into boot camp), and drank a bottle of red and ate a packet of nuts. DS was fucking aorund at bed time and DP out with work and I just needed to wind down! So I feel a bit rough but having jumped on the scales, no damage done (yet, it moight catch up!). AND I didn't gorge on a load of pasta!

I'm weirdly glad I cracked, I was worried I was getting a bit obsessed!

It's nice to know you can have a night off with some wine and snacks (but no carbs!) and the world doesn't end.

I also have a really hard spin class today so that'll burn off the booze I hope.

devon I feel like that too, just... not...hungry. And I used to feel constantly starving. I like the feeling!

Happy Friday everyone - when is everyone's next weigh in? My official one is Monday, at my local Boots (so no cheating possible!).

xx

readyforsunshine · 09/10/2015 11:00

Really well done on your loss Devon, great motivation to keep going:)
I'm going to have weds as my official weigh in day as if I'm going to weaken it'll be over a w/e & it's depressing for me to see a Monday weigh in! I tend to weigh most days as I find it helps me keep focused - a good weigh in motivates, a bad one makes me ' good' for the day - unless it's REALLY bad!!

LoisEinhorn · 09/10/2015 11:48

I had it too Devon and they said I was more at risk of developing it so be careful.

I'm so confused about my diet. I'm trying to eat healthily, and being veggie I thought I'd buy a bean salad to go with my salad. Big mistake not reading the tub first it had about 38gm of carbs!! Plus the cous cous I had. Bought lentils to make a soup but they are high too. Good carbs but still carbs. Sad

Well done Missy!

SharkSkinThing · 09/10/2015 13:29

lois hello! Do you like tofu? I think that's ok on this diet.

I eat fish but not meat so it's not quite as tricky. I do eat an awful lot of eggs!

OP posts:
devoncreamtea · 10/10/2015 11:04

Hi lois thanks for the heads up, I will chat to my GP.

With the diet, I think lentils and all legumes are off limits - I may be wrong? May be try eggs, cheese (goats is supposed to be easier to digest) fresh veg (but no white potatoes) sweet potatoes, small amounts of quinoa and lots of coconut oil and butter.

Try hannahs bullet proof coffee - might hit the spot!

Otherwise have you heard of the Delicously Ella cook book? That is very good too - no sugar, no dairy, no meat, no eggs, no gluten. It is very 'clean'. Might be worth a look if you feel a bit too deprived being a veggie low carber?

Jeans update...!! I fit into some old jeans!! Still with a highly attractive muffin top when I sit down....but it's early days!

Hope you are all well today

SharkSkinThing · 10/10/2015 19:19

Grin on the jeans devon. awesome! We're all getting there, inch by inch!

I am shattered (just the usual Saturday exhaustion of housework, kids, gardening, shopping) and am desperate for wine! But Monday is weigh day and I so want to have a good result, as family down next week so it'll be tricky to stick to this.

Maybe a big piece of salmon will help!
