It's easier to keep up when we're all in it together Pseudo so I would say yes to waiting until the 13th. If you want to minimise the effect of carb flu then you could cut down on sugar and consider reducing your intake of other carbs, e.g. smaller quantities of pasta, rice and potatoes. On the other hand you may want to have a carb-fest before going cold turkey. This WOE (way of eating) is much easier when you can avoid temptation, particularly in the first couple of weeks when even walking down the crisps aisle in the supermarket may set off a carb craving don't even think about the smell of toast! After a while of low carbing I have found that I'm not so interested in biscuits, cakes etc although I do occasionally get sucked in by the temptation of a hot chocolate. In my case I was addicted to carbs, particularly crisps, chips and chocolate, and once I broke the addiction I stopped getting the reward (I assume a dopamine high) of satisfying the craving. So for example if I were to eat a doughnut or a curry chip I would still enjoy it but I wouldn't get the 'oh god that's amazing' feeling that I now realise was my addiction to carbs and my blood sugar levels skyrocketing.

Athelstane I've had a few Christmas treats... Mince pie x 3, handful of chocs, 1 roast pot & 1 parsnip (I'm keeping track! Wink ) and my chin is covered in painful spots and the skin on my face is really dry & sore..... tis carbs/sugar... Sad

I ate a whole box. And those en croute canape thingies. And wine. And Grissini. It was lovely while it lasted but yes, Daisy, the sugar makes my skin flakey too. And now I'm full, bloated, feel a bit sick still, and yet am ravenous Confused.

It's not worth it .

Never joined a blog before but feel the need to get support from others with this radical change. Read Briffa's book and it makes sense but need to put it into action, also taking into account children's meals and diabetic husband who put me on to this way of eating in the first place.
