I'm in, LC before the summer, loved it and lost 15lbs and now it's all creeping back on. Just finishing off those pesky last bits of Christmas and can't wait for Monday, thank you Biwi and Willie et al.

And, here's another of my stupid questions - I think there's no benefit to just cutting down on carbs a bit? We actually have to go cold turkey and that's what makes our metabolism revert to burning fat?

So, the chocolates and biscuits need to be either finished or resisted before13th? I can do that

StuntNun · 07/01/2014 19:19

Gussie cutting down can help with minimising the likelihood of carb flu but unless you reduce your carb intake to below 100g-ish (the level of carbs at which you lose weight varies from person to person) you won't benefit. It's to do with your body's absolute requirement for glucose. This post and this post from Michael Eades' blog explain it well.

UhhOhhh · 07/01/2014 20:09

I'd like to join. Couple of questions, after the 2 week boot camp what changes are made? Do you just carry on the same or are there some things you can have again? Sorry this is totally new to me!

And, how does it work with cooking for the family? Do you cook yourself a separate meal or just add some carbs to the rest of the family's meal? I've got 2 fussy children and an extremely annoying skinny but eats like a horse DH.

UhhOhhh - I'm married to one of those. It's extremely annoying! When I cook for the family, (3 of us now as DS1 is at university), I tend to cook us all the same thing. They won't die if they don't have any carbs!

Sometimes, though, all I do is have extra veg/salad and don't have any of the carb component. Tonight we had roasted stuffed pork fillet, with courgettes fried with onions. I made home-made chips for them and celeriac chips for me. Cooked them in the same pan, so it wasn't too onerous.

If I make a conventionally carb-based dish - something like spag bol or chilli, I just don't have the pasta/rice. With bolognese, sometimes I have the sauce on a bed of thinly shredded, boiled cabbage. The chilli I usually just have with a dollop of mayo/yoghurt/sour cream and cheese. (To be honest, I don't make chilli that often because the tomatoes and the beans make it a fairly carby dish)

OP posts:
daisychicken · 07/01/2014 21:25

I do same as BIWI... I only cook different meals if they have pizza/baked spuds but instead of cooking another meal I usually have leftovers. The majority of the low carb meals I do, DH and dc like but the odd meal such as celeriac bake, they don't and I just say tough luck but I'm mean like that!! Grin

Piscivorus · 07/01/2014 21:47

pop Men are annoying! I have many stones to lose, my DH is normal-ish but had gained just a few pounds over the years (we are both in our 50s). Over the time of doing this I have lost 3stone+, trying really hard and he has lost 1 1/2stone and is now perfect BMI while doing the most half-arsed diet you can imagine! Pisses me off no end! Angry

Classics include "I am really sticking to this lc diet, except after lunch I have a couple of biscuits to fill me up", the question "Is this low carb?" to things like fish and chips (apparently should be as it has fish in) and pork pies (likewise has meat in) and the classic that Tunnocks caramel wafers can't have many carbs in as they feel quite light. Hmm

ChippingInWadesIn · 07/01/2014 22:16

daisy - what do you put in your celeriac bake? I quite like it mashed -with lots of pepper, butter, cheese so heavily disguised--, but not as chips - so I'd be interested to see what's in the bake :)

pic - I think I might just swap to your DH's diet Grin - well, without the meat of course!! (veggie)

clarinetV2 · 07/01/2014 22:25

OK, I think it's time I took the plunge. I absolutely love carbs. Bread, cake and chocolate are my downfall. I lost 6 stone between summer 2011 and September 2012, maintained for a couple of months, but had a disastrous December when my carb addiction completely took hold of me and I gained well over a stone. I've yo-yo dieted for 40 years, and this time I'm determined not to put all the weight back on - if I do, I don't think I will ever be able to motivate myself to lose again. My 6-stone loss was through calorie counting, and my low-cal days were also low-carb days by default, because high-carb foods used up the calories too quickly. But I also gave myself 'treat' days when I allowed myself some high-carb goodies, so I don't think I kicked the habit. I'd like to try boot camp to see if I can get rid of the carb addiction for good. But it's going to be hard - I love my carbs so much!

Hello, I'm in! If anyone's able to add me that would be lovely as am on iPad...

Longtime lowish carber who lost over 20lbs painlessly and happily on one of the the first bootcamps but has fallen spectacularly off the wagon recently through a combination of disorganisation and the discovery of £1 chocolate croissants in my work canteen Hmm. Am feeling sluggish, spotty and bloated and am dying to get a bit of energy back after Christmas over-indulgences.

I'll be committing to Bootcamp this time even though I'm usually more of a 'light' kinda gal. The only thing I absolutely loathe is eating breakfast but will try to force down a couple of spoonfuls of total or at least a bulletproof coffee! Btw, if anyone's interested am sure total have started to do a 1L tub - I can get though gone of those 500g ones in a couple of days Blush

I'll weigh on Monday. Amazing to see such a long list of joiners!

arselikekylie · 08/01/2014 09:47

Quick question. The only Total Greek yoghurt I can find round here is the zero fat one. I'm guessing this isn't the one I should be having?

teaandthorazine · 08/01/2014 09:51

No, you need the full fat version kylie, sorry. The local supermarket near my work doesn't seem to stock anything full fat - all the yoghurt, cheese, etc is all reduced fat rubbish! Sooooo frustrating.

BIWI · 08/01/2014 10:05

I know - it's a real pain finding full fat stuff in Sainsbury's Local or Tesco Express. You have to go to the bigger supermarkets for it.

What you could do, though, is buy that one and buy a pot of double cream as well, to mix into it?

OP posts:
Cbeebijeebies · 08/01/2014 11:05

I'm really excited! Smile

Started slim and save (like Cambridge Diet but cheaper) & it was foul. I don't think going hungry is a healthy way to adjust your WOE if you see what I mean? I'm really hoping this will make me feel more energetic after a while as I feel like i'm in a constant sugar crash atm.

i hate how everything defaults to low fat

when people have noticed i've lost weight and have offered me something to eat that i've refused they say 'it's ok, it's low fat!!'

it's not the fat i'm bothered about Hmm

Cbeebijeebies · 08/01/2014 12:28

It was really hard to find full fate, not too much sugar/sweetner yogurts on tesco's online grocery site earlier. Worked it out that buying tonnes of veg but nothing carby is much cheaper than my usual embarassing shop Smile

Cbeebijeebies · 08/01/2014 12:28

(and meat/fish/eggs of course).
