New Year Low Carb Bootcamp starts on 13 January!

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

This is just to let you know that the next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on Monday 13 January. As before, it will last for 10 weeks, with the first two weeks being the strictest.

Hi everyone, I am new to mumsnet but have been lurking for ages. I really need to lose some weight (about 5-6 stone probably) and have tried low-carb before and found it worked well.

I was planning on following the threads but not joining but then thought that I'd be better off joining and then hopefully if I feel that I am going off track then you lovely people can keep me on track!

Well goodness me! I really didn't expect a whole load of MN husbands to join up too Grin

Just be warned, ladies, that men will lose weight faster and quicker. It's not bloody fair and we should all LTBs!

Although it's great to have your partner/husband doing it too, please don't get downhearted when they seem to be doing better than you. It really isn't a competition.

Gussie yes people will post ideas of what to eat/ check in with what they have eaten.
Some ideas are:
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs & mushrooms fried in butter
Sausage, bacon & eggs
"Total" full fat greek yogurt
Ham & Cheese slices, maybe with green salad/avocado (with an oily dressing)

Lunch: Tuna mayonnaise salad
Broccoli and stilton soup
Omelette
Left-over roast chicken with coleslaw & salad (oily dressing)

Dinner: Roast pork with veg&butter
Cauliflower cheese
Salmon & roast vegetables
Bolognaise (with "courgette pasta" - which I confess I have never tried!)
Curry (without rice or naan)

good things to go with whatever meat/fish you are eating are mashed swede, celeriac chips, roast veg like courgettes/aubergines - some people make "cauliflower rice", though I haven't yet)

I started last Thursday and WOW this is working! I am 5ft 6in and started out at 11st 5 lbs and am 10 st 13lbs this morning! That's 6lbs in 5 days and my Christmas weight gain gone!!!!! My stomach is also the flattest it's been in years. I'm enjoying my food too. Very happy!

gussiegrips - it really is hard to break. The government and all those food manufacturers with vested interests have done a really good job of persuading us that fat is bad.

But - did you enjoy it?

And - wait to see what the scales tell you!

Keep going, drink lots of water and all will be well. Honestly.

Gussiegrips - stick with it. I felt dirty the first time for a bit too but I soon hit on a formula that worked for me - namely adding something green.

So, for example, my favourite LC breakfast/lunch is hard boiled eggs mashed in butter. I wilt some handfuls of spinach in the microwave to go with it et voila! Health and deliciousness.

So, plate of cold meats and cheese - add celery; snacking on pork scratchings - have some cucumber sticks too etc etc.

To be honest though, once you get passed the voices in your head and realise you are eating protein + lots of veg for meals, that greasy feeling soon goes.

I CRAVED fruit the first time, and I don't even like fruit that much. Now it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Am so excited to get started - have a FAMILY FREE skiing trip Thursday - Sunday (I KNOW!!) and intend to make the most of it before the purge starts on Monday....so perfect timing for me!

Just need a few clarifications - have done LC before to great effect but never with a group, so am just wondering how it works - do we all post in our weight on Monday morning, and every Monday morning thereafter, and then it's collated onto a spreadsheet and posted on MN?

Also with the fat eating thing, presumably that's just to make food seem tastier and more like a treat rather than as an integral healthy part of the eating plan?

Thanks for any guidance!

Eating fat is an integral part of why it works:

  1. Eating more fat than protein & carbs means that your body doesn't trigger its insulin response when you eat food and therefore doesn't lay down fat. Low-fat protein doesn't have as good an effect here as fat does.
  1. Eating enough fat means that you keep your metabolism high. As opposed to low calorie/ low fat diets where your body thinks there's a famine, and therefore lowers your metabolism to survive... therefore making it even harder to lose weight. With this WOE you lose weight WITHOUT your body thinking there's a famine going on.

Catwonkle - Eva has it spot on. And, of course, it makes our food much more satisfying and tasty!

How Bootcamp works is that every Monday you weigh-in (or, you could choose a different day of the week if that suits you better), and you record your weight on the Spreadsheet that the lovely WillieWaggleDagger creates and manages. You can do this one of two ways. Either you record your actual weight, in pounds (there's a handy little conversion button somewhere on the spreadsheet that converts from kg to pounds if you weigh in kgs), or you index it - so your starting weight goes down as 100 and you lose a point for every pound you've lost.
