Week 3 - Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp - The Crossroads!

BIWI · 22/09/2013 23:12

So we have reached the end of the first two, strict weeks.

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

By now, if you have stuck to your knitting, you should be ketogenically adapted - which is to say, you should have switched your body from burning carbs to burning fat.

Hurrah!

Flowers

You now have a choice. You can relax things a little and can include some fruit (berries) and some nuts/seeds - and a little alcohol in moderation The rules of Bootcamp Light are on the spreadsheet.

Or

You can stay on Bootcamp, if it suits you - as long as you promise me that you are getting your carbs from vegetables and salad!

Another option, which many of us adopt, is to do Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

The choice is entirely yours!

I hope that everyone is enjoying their food, which is the most important thing. And good luck for the next week.

Clearer skin
clearer brain function
better sleep patterns

for a couple more... Wink

I have found that having baby bel and soya yoghurts in the house again is helping me. Not sure what the scales will make though next week as have had a bit of an accident not actually a serious thing but i am pretty much bed ridden as they haven given me ibuprofen which does bad things to my blood pressure. Hopefully I should be off that next week so fingers crossed. after that point...

CrabbyBigBottom · 25/09/2013 23:54

Willie thanks for vanilla link. Is it quite coarsely ground? I like the gritty effect!

New thank goodness you found Bootcamp then! I'm glad that your health is improving and that you're getting a handle on your food issues. Ingrained beliefs and habits take a while to re-program, I reckon.

Yay MrsHP! Great news about your bloods.

Bigkids and Auntie...
Basic Almond Sponge from the IPD recipe book
2 large eggs
60ml double cream
2 tsp splenda, optional (I didn't use any)
50g melted butter
Pinch salt
120g ground almonds
1 tsp baking powder

Preheat oven to 180*C, gas 4

Separate eggs. Whisk egg whites into soft peaks with an electric whisk.

Put yolks into a mixing bowl with the splenda if you're using it, cream, salt and melted butter. Mix all together then stir in the almonds and baking powder.

Stir in a spoonful of the egg whites to loosen the mixture, then fold in the rest of the egg whites. Put it into a greased sandwich tin and bake for 20 to 30 mins. It says you could microwave it for 4 mins on full power instead. Sounds revolting to me but it'd be quick at least! It should be golden and springy to the touch.

I cut it into 'scones' with a little cutter (heart shaped, aaaah!) but you could just slice it like a cake.

Food yesterday...
B - bulletproof decaff coffee
L - mozzarella, ham, tomatoes, pesto
D - brussel sprout stirfry with chicken and chorizo. It was delicious!
P - fruit crumble Shock We went blackberry picking and picked a few damsons as well (I only put a handful in though). I made the crumble topping by rubbing ground almonds with butter until it went a bit lumpy and crumbly, then baked it for a out half an hour until it was golden and a bit crunchy. Served with clotted cream. God it was good!

Today...
B/L - gouda cheese and little tomatoes
S - remaining crumble with cream
D - cauliflower with a mushroom, chicken and chorizo creamy gruyere sauce.

1lb off this morning.

CrabbyBigBottom · 26/09/2013 00:34

Sad New hope you feel better. Can't they give you something that doesn't affect your BP? Does diclofenac have the same effect?

Lily thank you. I'm not lovely at all really! Grin It is a slightly awkward situation as she's a really nice woman but we're quite different and the only thing we have in common really is xDP! Short of comparing notes, I found I was struggling for conversational topics! Grin It's lovely that she wants to stay close to DD though. The more people who love a child, the better, imo.

NewStartNewStory · 26/09/2013 01:00

I just react to all NSAIDs like that and it is actually in my medical notes that I am not to have them but there is significant fluid build up on the joint and they need it to reduce. They muttered something about a big needle and drawing it off before deciding on this. It is only a week or so and the rest will probably do me some good. I have little pain and other then being too dizzy to stand or sit up for long am ok. Plus I have a very very strong dislike of needles and this seemed less painful option. Besides if i can't wander into the kitchen i won't be in a position to be tempted by stuff i shouldn't be eating. bit of a win really Wink

lavenderhoney · 26/09/2013 03:53

I having to work this week so no time for keeping up properly, I'm going to do it tonight!

Still doing bootcamp but allowing a few nuts and I have had a couple of g&ts - but I am managing more water easily - which I never thought I would say!

CarefullyDoesIt · 26/09/2013 05:27

Pease can some lovely person record my weight for me. 173. Still can't figure it on my iPad. Thanks.

StuntNun · 26/09/2013 07:44

If anyone's looking for the Idiot Proof Diet Cookbook, there are quite a few on eBay for £2.99.

DH was complaining about his 'clown trousers' today! He's wondering whether to keep them in case he puts on weight again. I think as we've managed to sustain this WOE for over three months now he should get rid of anything that was bought while he was bigger. It was quite marked yesterday as his brother was round and when we saw him six weeks ago DH was bigger but now he's noticeably slimmer than his bro.

WillieWaggledagger · 26/09/2013 08:09

stuntnun, i call that the 'elephant bum' effect

crabby, i think it could be described as gritty! i haven't tried the one you linked to though, so i can't compare.

bigkidsdidit · 26/09/2013 08:36

Thanks crabby Thanks

JustasmallGless · 26/09/2013 08:43

Thanks stuntnun for the IPD cookbook. I have it on my kindle which is useful when out and about for ingredients.
However since the "smashing of the iPad screen in the kitchen with a jar falling out of the cupboard" incident I am loathe to use it!

CrabbyBigBottom · 26/09/2013 09:10

Shock Shock at New's needle and Justa's smashed ipad screen. Both of those made me wince! New I'd rather be bed bound and dizzy than have anything to do with big needles in my joints!

Willie thanks for that, I'll try it. I've just realised how hopelessly middle aged and middle class I am... Once I was young and and lived a trendy (sort of) urban life in gritty north London... now I live in leafy Surrey with a social life that revolves around walking he dog, and 'gritty' refers to a vanilla bean product from Waitrose. What has become of me! Grin

LilyAmaryllis · 26/09/2013 09:44

StuntNun I threw out all my "big" trousers except one pair that was very well-cut. Keeping them as a kind of insurance, really hope I won't get that big again now I know about this WOE. Can your DH do similar - ditch the cheap trousers but keep the ones it would be hard to find again?

NewStartNewStory · 26/09/2013 10:30

To be quite honest Crabby that's how i feel about this too Grin

BIWI · 26/09/2013 10:42

Morning all!

Sorry for absence - have had a bit of a hectic week from the social point of view.

NewStart - sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you're better soon. But I can't help thinking that a bit of enforced rest might not be a good thing for you. I think you overdo it a lot of the time! And yy to not being in the kitchen so often Grin

holmes - don't be disheartened. You will have lost water weight and emptied your glycogen stores, and will have lost a little bit of fat. What's happening now is that your body is adjusting to burning fat rather than carbs. I have no idea why the weight loss stops at this point in time, all that I can say is that it happens to so many of us that it's definitely a 'thing' that happens! Stick with it and you will see the scales move again. However you will now start to lose weight at a slower rate, and you shouldn't expect to lose more than 1-2lbs a week. This is good/normal and a sustainable way to lose weight.

Crabby - #firstworldproblems Grin

Jude Shock at iPad damage!

StuntNun - I got rid of all my 'fat' clothes because I am never going there again. I think that if you hang on to them, psycologically you are giving yourself permission to re-gain weight . I had a couple of things that I really liked, that were hard to get rid of, but as I never, never, ever want to be almost obese again, which is where I was when I started, what would be the point of keeping them? Chuck them all out!

BIWI · 26/09/2013 10:56

Jude? WTF? Just - sorry!

NewStartNewStory · 26/09/2013 11:21

Oh be under no illusion BIWI I am still busy, I have a hook and some wool. Should stop me being driven mad.

NewStartNewStory · 26/09/2013 11:22

Grin perhaps a good use of my time would be to google the definition for the word 'rest' and try and figure out what it actually means WinkGrin

BIWI · 26/09/2013 11:23
Grin

Knitting = very good though!

BIWI · 26/09/2013 11:23

Or crochet. Whatever you do with a bloody hook

Purple2012 · 26/09/2013 11:27

Just seen something on come dine with me that I think I will try at the weekend. Corgettes stuffed with mozzarella and put under the grill. That will be ok won't it?

JustasmallGless · 26/09/2013 11:52

Crabby and BIWI - I was most annoyed that I couldn't blame DH/DC/the cat for what was in fact my own stupidity Angry

Purple that sounds perfect - let us know how it tastes.

If any of you are on pinterest I can link to my lowcarb food board if you want?

HighJinx · 26/09/2013 11:53

StuntNun I say ditch the clown trousers and anything else that is too big now. You're not going back there anyway but if you do fall of the wagon for a bit and your clothes start to feel tighter then that is the point to regain control and lose those few pounds.

It's far easier to let things slide if you have a whole wardrobe of clothes waiting to accommodate your increasing size. If you have to consciously shop for a bigger size then it is much more likely that you will stop yourself and get back on track to stay in your existing clothes.

Purple2012 · 26/09/2013 12:36

I will just. I will do it on Saturday.

All my bigger clothes have gone in the loft. My mum will be going through it at some point and then a friend who wants to lose weight down to what I was will probably have the rest. If there is anything left over it will be going to the charity shop.

NewStartNewStory · 26/09/2013 12:37

I think a bloody hook might suggest that there has been some venturing in the world of ancient mummification. I have a feeling there are laws against that sort of this these days. Wink

Purple - that sounds lovely - worth posting on the recipe thread? Maybe once you've tried it, so you can give your verdict on it.
