Week 3 - Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp - The Crossroads!

BIWI · 22/09/2013 23:12

So we have reached the end of the first two, strict weeks.

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

By now, if you have stuck to your knitting, you should be ketogenically adapted - which is to say, you should have switched your body from burning carbs to burning fat.

Hurrah!

Flowers

You now have a choice. You can relax things a little and can include some fruit (berries) and some nuts/seeds - and a little alcohol in moderation The rules of Bootcamp Light are on the spreadsheet.

Or

You can stay on Bootcamp, if it suits you - as long as you promise me that you are getting your carbs from vegetables and salad!

Another option, which many of us adopt, is to do Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

The choice is entirely yours!

I hope that everyone is enjoying their food, which is the most important thing. And good luck for the next week.

Yesterday I finally spent the £250 in John Lewis vouchers that I've had since Christmas (£150 from Mumsnet Smile and £100 Christmas present from my dad Smile). I booked a double appointment with the Fashion Advisor as I was wanting both a dress for a wedding in France I'm going to next week and to revamp my casual wardrobe.

She brought me clothes in sizes 10 and 12GrinGrin (and Ted Baker 2 and 3) Smile.

Ended up with some lovely and high waisted so no muffin top black skinny jeans from Hobbs in a Size 12 (could probably have squeeeeeezed in to the 10s but wanted them comfortable Wink). Also got a nice black & white scoop neck Phase 8 top which together with the jeans and the wee suede ankle boots she also brought me made for a lovely slimming outfit! Smile

Suspect it's a bit of vanity sizing but who cares! Grin

Dress I got was a multi-coloured geometric print (predominantly purple to go with my favourite shoes black, orange and green) mock wrap dress in a heavy silky jersey Looks better in real life

Came to £250 exactly. Smile

Purple2012 · 26/09/2013 13:56

I will do biwi

prettybird bet you feel fab!

holmessweetholmes · 26/09/2013 14:08

Thanks for the pep talk! I'm not going to give up, in spite of the lack of scales movement. I FEEL slimmer and lighter and just more in balance with myself iykwim. And I am so enjoying not swinging between feeling uncomfortably full and ravenously hungry all the time!

ofcoursethisisanamechange · 26/09/2013 14:10

what's the thinking on a cappucino? I'm in week 3- lost loads first week, a little second week and now think I am in the 1-2 lbs a week stage. My midweek food is usually the same- scrambled eggs(B), big salad with some allowed veg and hard boiled eggs (L) and an afternoon snack of greek yogurt and a prawn mayo sandwich filler for tea- would I be okay sneaking a cappucino in the afternoon? pretty please??

StuntNun · 26/09/2013 14:15

Yes please Gless although Pinterest is a real time stealer for me.

googoogoggles · 26/09/2013 14:52

That's fantastic about the clothes prettybird! Hoping I'll be where you are now size-wise in a few weeks! Would be dead chuffed getting in a pair of size 12 Hobbs trousers!
Holmes – think we've just got to keep at it, keep drinking the water, and keep hoping. So many people posting on here have reported such amazing losses, it's got to be worth carrying on, even when the scales don't shift! (giving myself a pep talk here!)
I agree about ditching the fat clothes btw as it's all to easy to accept creeping weight gain if you have some comfy stuff you can put on (speaks from experience). I'm the other way at the moment – I've held quite a few things I used to get into and hope I can get in again...
Newstart sorry about your knee. Sounds painful... Have been thinking about knitting again (thanks to BIWI's link!) I haven't done any for years and years and can see how it would be a good distraction if I succumb to a few G&Ts and get the urge to snack. And no, don't get the crochet thing either BIWI!
Crabby Grin at being middle class/middle aged with our vanilla grinders!

captainmummy · 26/09/2013 15:09

Ofcourse - cappuchino will be made with milk, so more carby than coffee-with-cream. Having said that, I have 1 Latte a week, and I normally have a coffee with milk at work. (but I am in maintenance, not bootcamp) Try it, if you start gaining, drop it - and make sure it's decaff.

ofcoursethisisanamechange · 26/09/2013 15:23

why decaf captain? didn't think caffeine was off limits

BIWI · 26/09/2013 15:48

prettybird love that dress!

ofcourse there are mixed opinions about caffeine - some think it impedes weight loss. Best thing to do is just to try it. I've never given up drinking coffee, but still managed to lose weight.

Brilliant Prettybird!!!!!! Such a boost when you see your clothes size decreasing!

Lidl have knitting stuff in stock from today if anyone needs anything! I'm tempted to try the knitting loom..

Have had a little blip... but back on track again.. I've not weighed myself but my trousers are falling down so I really need to try my smaller jeans on, I can just see me at the supermarket or at school with my current jeans round my ankles Blush Grin

surprisedbyjoy · 26/09/2013 16:16

Dead jealous Prettybird - I looked at that dress at the weekend and loved it but not in stock in my size.

I have been really strict with getting rid of the clothes I have shrunk out of - started at 22, now 14 so lots of clothes; it means I have to climb back on the wagon when I waiver! On the up side, I am much better at the "capsule" wardrobe as have been buying the bare minimum of reasonable quality clothes in each size.

Sneaky extra weigh this morning revealed that I have finally dipped below 80kg - it seems to have been a real barrier. It's my birthday this weekend so gives me some incentive to keep on the straight and narrow!

BIWI · 26/09/2013 16:49

Brilliant, surprised! Flowers

I have just resisted the kids' leftover pizza and garlic dough balls. Feeling like some kind of saint Grin.

Ohfuckohfuckofuck · 26/09/2013 19:07

Feeling very positive at the minute. This week I:

  1. Dropped 2lbs despite being in the dreaded week 3 (I started early) & totm.
  1. Learned that lido Greek yogurt is lower carb than total and much, much cheaper.
  1. Finally managed no to eat eggs every day for breakfast.
  1. Have yet to reach for the lovely blue gin despite being 'allowed'.
  1. Have just made a giant pot of brocilli and blue cheese soup with homemade chicken stock.
  1. Hav managed to feed a friend and family many low cab meals without them even noticing, let alone complaining.
  1. Have not once felt hungry or cheated.

I bet I lose nothing this week though.

Also, tmi, my sweat smells pretty bad under my arms. I don't normally, it's very strong and like ammonia. A bit like after I'd had the dc. Is this the woe?

Ohfuckohfuckofuck · 26/09/2013 19:09

Have not managed to proof read MN posts to amend fat finger flaws.

BIWI · 26/09/2013 19:21
Grin

Smelly sweat = very concentrated = not enough water? I don't know, but that's what it would suggest. I'll see what I can find out.

But bloody well done! Especially on resisting the blue gin! (I'm always disappointed that it's not actually blue)

I managed to break the 30 minute barrier today when I went for my run - I ran 5K in 29.52 minutes!

OP posts:
holmessweetholmes · 26/09/2013 19:27

Ooh - are we allowed to cook with wine? The alcohol all burns off, but are there sugars to worry about?

Ohfuckohfuckofuck · 26/09/2013 19:37

Well done on the run BiWi! I must get back to running. I messed up my knees last time, if I'm lighter it should be ok . Running changes my shape for the much better.

I've been drinking between 3-4l of water, so it's unlikely.

I should also have said that I had the mother of all migraines (I am prone, but not for a while) on Tuesday and thanks to DH being amazing, didn't succomb to honey on toasted he cooked me a lovely caulk rice/bacon/egg thing.

Wonder if the post migraine hideousness accounts for stinky pits?

BIWI · 26/09/2013 19:44

Hmm. Not sure, but this link suggests that you might be eating too much protein What do you think? Are you eating more protein than fat? Could you try upping your fat/cutting down on the protein?

OP posts:
BIWI · 26/09/2013 19:47

And possibly you may be eating not enough carbohydrate - but it's difficult to say without knowing what you're eating!

It certainly seems to be a common thing though - could partly be about being in ketosis - but to be sure, can you list out for me what you've been eating/drinking over the last few days?

Twit · 26/09/2013 19:59

Hi all, have ended up with tonsillitis this week (which is why I had to have the medicine t the weekend I couldn't/ can't swallow tablets) so whilst I can't eat much, I have got more sweet medicine. At least I haven't gained any weight I haven't lost any either. It's been really hard not to give into ice cream etc but I have just had hot water or crushed ice. I have had pro biitic yoghurts too for my tum, being careful to have as little carny shit as possible obv Wink and a creamy decaf every now and then. I've not eaten well at all this week, managed some chicken and buttery spinach earlier, and no energy to get the ingredients for soup, so all in all MEH.
I have finished knitting my hat and am now making dd one.
Ooh and my fungus has gone now. Grin

Ohfuckohfuckofuck · 26/09/2013 20:12

All those are possible BiWi, thanks.

L: leftover mutton/lamb mince kofta(only a little) half bag of salad leaves, 6/7 cherry tomatoes, dressing made from oil, mayo and vinegar (Helmans mayo)
D: chicken curry mad switch passatta and cream, fried aubergine, cauliflower rice.
1 cup tea with milk, 1 cup coffee with cream 4l water.
Cube of Brie.

Wa sick 3 times ore brunch.

I have recently upped fat, I only started adding double cream in the last couple of days & the belly pork is new. My go to tends to be prawns and avocado.

My wee doesn't smell, so pretty too bad. [sorry]

Ohfuckohfuckofuck · 26/09/2013 20:13

I will endeavour to up fat/reduce protein(serving a salmon, prawn and avocado salad for lunch tomorrow, worried now!).

LilyAmaryllis · 26/09/2013 21:31

Wow, and well done, to lots of people! Poor you, Twit. Your food looks OK to me (no expert) Ohfuck - and salmon is a fatty fish and avocado contains fats so that seems OK too?

I had a day where in-the-old-days I would have been on a carb snack-fest - overtired at work, with annoying deadlines to meet, not being sensible about giving myself enough lunch time... etc. BUT I did hold firm and not dive into any of the carby snacks I was thinking about. It wasn't a brilliant food day, a lot of cheese was snacked on, but I remained low-carb. I don't want to throw away all this progress!

Slightly redeemed myself at dinner-time with celeriac chips, broccoli with butter and scrambled egg (odd combo I know.... there just weren't any other options and I couldn't face any more cheese in any form!)
