So here we are! Over 160 of us signed up!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to enter your first weight

If you aren't on the list for any reason, just go to the bottom of the list and add your name - the lovely Willie will sort out the alphabetisation later.

From experience of previous Bootcamps, the chat thread can move very quickly! So, if you have a specific or particular question, please post it on the questions thread I will do my best to check it as often as I can, as will other seasoned Bootcampers.

If you have a really burning issue, please feel free to PM me and I will do my very best to help you as soon as possible.

And if you're looking for inspiration for things to cook, here's the recipe thread

Here is a brief reminder of the rules:

We do not eat any of the following during Bootcamp:

bread
rice
pasta/noodles
potatoes
flour
pastry
sugar
chocolate/sweets
biscuits/cookies
crisps

And here are the ten rules of Bootcamp:

  1. You must eat breakfast.
  2. Avoid processed food
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

More detail/explanation of these rules is on the spreadsheet ? look at the tabs at the bottom.

One final word from me ? the disclaimer! I am not a doctor, a scientist, a dietician nor a nutritionist. The advice that is given here is based on my own experience of low carbing, as well as the reading I have been doing over the last few years.

If you have a medical condition, or you are taking long term medication, please take advice from your GP/consultant before starting to low carb.

Good luck everyone!

Just did a sneaky weigh in and have lost 2.5 lb, which is great but I'm slightly disappointed! Mad. But having read about the massive losses in the first week I guess I was hoping for more. Anyway, it's made me more determined to make sure I drink enough, which I wasn't perhaps doing (my baby only naps in a sling and weeing with him on is a right pain but I've got to put up with it!). Also might cut down dairy a bit.

Cherrypi · 13/09/2013 06:35

Ugh full of cold but have lost 1.25lb this morning. That's a total of 3.25lb since Monday and just under a stone since I started a couple of months ago. Grin Have run out of yoghurt and cream so breakfast will be unusual.

goodasitgets · 13/09/2013 07:01

Morning. I saw a message about oil pulling BIWI. I've started doing it with Uncle Harry's oral swish (organic sesame, myrrh, clove, peppermint, oregano, cinnamon) and my teeth are noticeably whiter Shock
I'm not convinced by the whole "sucks out the toxins" thing but am doing it for mouth and gum health

Hugecupcake · 13/09/2013 07:12

Have just jumped on the scales to find a 2lb gain!!!!! All that effort!!!!! .....

Yesterday:
B:3 eggs scrambled with butter and mayo
S: 3 slices chicken with watercress
L: 1 rasher belly pork and 1 egg
D: cabbage fried with 2 tbsp pesto and grated cheese
S: 1 rasher belly pork.
3 litres water
2 cups coffee scant milk.

Could someone please tell me where I am going wrong?? Gutted to say the least.

Lifeisontheup · 13/09/2013 07:28

I weighed this morning and have lost 3.25lb. Very pleased, DH has lost 7lb! I'm a bit jealous but he does have much more to lose than me, he loves this woe as he's a complete carnivore.

Yesterday I had, egg and bacon, and bag of green veg with cream and grated cheese. Really wasn't hungry for anything else.
Went to the gym and drank at least 4 litres of water, plus now I've discovered cinnamon in coffee I no longer feel I need to have sweetener in coffee which I never thought I'd be able to do.

goodasitgets · 13/09/2013 07:29

I'm sure someone more experienced will be along soon but to me it looks like you haven't eaten enough? And also maybe not enough veg
I regularly eat 3 eggs + bacon for b, huge salad + meat/fish for l, and meat/fish + veg for tea, plus fat, + occasional snacks
Weight loss isn't linear either, keep drinking water and keep going Smile

BIWI · 13/09/2013 07:43

Hugecupcake (not a very LC name! Grin)

B:3 eggs scrambled with butter and mayo
S: 3 slices chicken with watercress
L: 1 rasher belly pork and 1 egg
D: cabbage fried with 2 tbsp pesto and grated cheese
S: 1 rasher belly pork

Where is your veg?!

And you're not eating very much - which is probably also why you're having to snack. 3 meals a day is much better than 6 snacks, which is effectively what you're doing.

You're eating a lot of protein, and protein also results in your body releasing insulin. A much smaller amount than if you're eating carbs, but nevertheless ...

So each time you're eating like you are, you're raising your blood sugars a little too high.

If I were you, I'd try to eat three, larger meals. Make sure that you're getting plenty of fat, but also that you're eating a decent portion of (low carb) veg and salad with at least two of those meals.

Where are you in your menstrual cycle? This can also cause weight gain.

bigkidsdidit - we're only on day 5! That's half a pound every day that you have lost. That's a pack of lard every day.

Everybody loses weight at a different rate. I know it's frustrating to see other people losing a huge amount very quickly - but take comfort in the fact that you are more likely to see losses every week when you lose gradually. Someone who loses 10lbs in week one is very unlikely to see a loss in week two. Whereas someone who loses 3lbs in week one may very well see another 3lbs in the following week.

Make sure you're following Bootcamp rules, but don't worry about changing things too much, as it's obviously working for you.

No weight loss here so farSad , but plenty of carb flu!
Yesterday I had:
B: Two egg omelette with a bit of grated cheddar, bulletproof coffee
L: smoked mackerel salad with plenty of oily home made dressing, greek yoghurt with cinnamon
D: Shepherd's pie with celeriac topping
Am I doing anything wrong? Wondering if I drank enough water. Will drink tons today.

BIWI · 13/09/2013 07:51

Well done cherrypi!

Livelong and Kinky - I usually make my scrambled eggs with a slice of butter about 2mm wide, if that helps! (No idea what that would weigh but probably about 10-15g). But it's a personal thing really - it's about how it affects the taste and texture of your eggs.

It's actually hard to et too much fat, as it's very satiating. Imagine eating some freshly fried chips. You could eat loads of those, couldn't you? Now imagine a slab of cheese. There's actually only a certain amount of that that you would be able to manage.

(Sorry for invoking images of carbs Grin)

holmes menu looks fine to me. How much water have you been drinking?

How much dairy have you been eating every day? Might be worth keeping an eye on that.

Today is my first day without any diet coke. Yesterday I had some in the morning then water the rest of the day and I suffered. So expecting the headache to be worse today.
Going to have yoghurt with cinnamon for breakfast
Frittata and salad with mayo for lunch
Tea will be chicken breast stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon with spinach and other salad.

I am reducing the amount of cheese I have been eating.

Does that sound ok?

Going to see about getting some low carb frozen veg. I can tthen have it in when I need it.

HighJinx · 13/09/2013 08:20

Purple I just wanted to say I think you are doing brilliantly cutting out the diet coke. Caffeine withdrawal is just hideous. I hope you're headache isn't too bad.

JustasmallGless · 13/09/2013 08:24

Hugecupcake - have you started exercising too at same time as Bootcamp? I always put on couple of lbs when I start again

Hence why I never went back to WW after one particularly horrific weigh in.

Measure, measure, measure too. Scales aren't always the best indicator

bigkidsdidit · 13/09/2013 08:26

Blimey a pack of lard a day. I hadn't thought of it like that! How motivating :)

Hugecupcake · 13/09/2013 08:28

Ok, comments noted, will take a deep breath and keep going! Thank you for your advice....will try with the 3 larger meals. And as for menstrual cycle..I haven't a clue as am VERY erratic lately! Ho hum.

Purple2012 · 13/09/2013 08:30

Thanks highjinx I know its going to be hard but I am determined. Also eating a whole chicken breast instead of small pieces will be hard after just starting to eat meat again.

Although I haven't lost any weight for a week I do feel slimmer. I went shopping yesterday and got loads of size 12 clothes which is a huge deal for me. I am definitely less bloated. Hoping to get some weight off by Monday though. Hopefully not having diet coke will do the trick.

captainmummy · 13/09/2013 08:31

Sounds good Purple - coke is addictive (really!) so it will be hard to break - well done for persevering.
How are you getting on with full-fat yog?
Frozen veg is also good for soups!

Purple2012 · 13/09/2013 08:37

Doing well with the full fat yoghurt. I have got used to it now so my husband has to use up the fat free stuff! I am making him use up all the stuff I can't eat.

I have had a problem with going to the loo too much for years, sometimes 40 times a day. This morning I have drunk loads of water and haven't needed to rush to the loo.

prettybird · 13/09/2013 08:41

Purple - if you are needing to take painkillers for your withdrawal headaches, make sure you have paracetamol rather than ibuprofen.

I'm sure someone else will link to the proper explanation but apparently ibuprofen/aspirin will stall you on this WoE.

prettybird · 13/09/2013 08:45

The need to go to the loo does resolve itself. When I first did Boot Camp, I was walking up 2 or 3 times during the night to go to the loo. Shock

I can now sleep through the night again. Smile

Purple2012 · 13/09/2013 08:46

Thanks prettybird I do have paracetamol. Will try and get through without it. Does anyone know how long the withdrawal symptoms will last?

googoogoggles · 13/09/2013 08:47

BIWI just 2mm slice of butter with yr eggs! I use way more. Wondering now if I'm going overboard with butter. Am I a fatty twat as well as a carby twat!!!

googoogoggles · 13/09/2013 08:49

Glad to hear about overnight loo trips getting less frequent - hv been getting up 2-3 times some nights!

BIWI · 13/09/2013 08:51

No googoogoggles! It's just personal preference/taste. I use a lot more butter than that on cooked vegetables.

And yes, your body will settle down with regard to trips to the loo.
