So here we are! Over 160 of us signed up!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to enter your first weight

If you aren't on the list for any reason, just go to the bottom of the list and add your name - the lovely Willie will sort out the alphabetisation later.

From experience of previous Bootcamps, the chat thread can move very quickly! So, if you have a specific or particular question, please post it on the questions thread I will do my best to check it as often as I can, as will other seasoned Bootcampers.

If you have a really burning issue, please feel free to PM me and I will do my very best to help you as soon as possible.

And if you're looking for inspiration for things to cook, here's the recipe thread

Here is a brief reminder of the rules:

We do not eat any of the following during Bootcamp:

bread
rice
pasta/noodles
potatoes
flour
pastry
sugar
chocolate/sweets
biscuits/cookies
crisps

And here are the ten rules of Bootcamp:

  1. You must eat breakfast.
  2. Avoid processed food
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

More detail/explanation of these rules is on the spreadsheet ? look at the tabs at the bottom.

One final word from me ? the disclaimer! I am not a doctor, a scientist, a dietician nor a nutritionist. The advice that is given here is based on my own experience of low carbing, as well as the reading I have been doing over the last few years.

If you have a medical condition, or you are taking long term medication, please take advice from your GP/consultant before starting to low carb.

Good luck everyone!

gonna have a look at some recipes, cut down on the dairy.
thanks all

JustasmallGless · 12/09/2013 22:13

Have you got the IPD book - the chapter in there about emotional eating is fab. I reread it every now and then.

A lot of it is habit too. A habit can be broken in 2 weeks and this is another benefit of boot camp

JustasmallGless · 12/09/2013 22:15

Why are you weeping? You are taking the first steps in a healthier, brighter you....whats not to love about that??!!
Its just contrary to everything you have been taught about "healthy" eating.

Rome wasn't built in a day....

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 12/09/2013 22:15

Hi all - having crazy days this week - the grand opening of our new behavioural unit. If this hasn't driven me to carbs I don't know what will. Grin

B- Greek yogurt
L- 2x frittata pieces (courgette mushroom chorizo and spinach) and some turkey breast chunks.
D- wasn't hungry but had some pieces of roasted bacon joint.
Supper-more yogurt.

JustasmallGless · 12/09/2013 22:18

Errr....you need some more veg. But you probably know that anyway!

Good luck with the new Unit Grin

Hello all. So, I restarted bootcamp yesterday after a bad day on Tuesday, but I'm here now. I've been low carbing since may and I love this way of eating. Just wanted to shout a bit of encouragement to those newbies that are struggling. I haven't lost masses of weight - roughly a pound a week - but it's been so painless compared to grim calorie counting. I was such a carb monster but now I don't crave sweet things and I know this is doing good things to my body. Thoughts that get me through:

  • I personally don't get on with "nothing tastes as good as slim feels" because frankly, for me (and for I suspect a lot of us), the immediacy of food IS more powerful than the prospect of being slim, so I just can't get my head to accept that nothing tastes as good as slim feels. I prefer "Food is delicious but it's not the boss of me".
  • I also find it helpful to have the mindset of "that's not the last potato / cake / chocolate bar on earth. There will be plenty of times in future when you can have them".
  • I also like thinking in terms of working with my body, not against it. So, i'm not constantly fighting what my body is trying to do, I'm working WITH it.
tenementfunster · 12/09/2013 22:23

ah thanks.
i haven't eaten anything sweet since last saturday which is unheard of.
would it be ok to have a cup of tea in morn with a splash of skimmed? i can deal with the rest of the day without!

JustasmallGless · 12/09/2013 22:26

You just have to work out what your body can tolerate! If you need your cuppa in the morning and its only one cup then hey, who are we to tell you otherwise!!

Secondsop - wise words indeed

tenementfunster · 12/09/2013 22:28

so i guess it's safe to say that dairy aint doing much for me. getting used to fruit teas!
thanks

JustasmallGless · 12/09/2013 22:31

I have just looked and you are eating a lot of cheese tbh. Atkins does say to only eat a portion the size of a matchbox.
If you cut back on your cheese but enjoyed your cuppa in the morning I think you would find a difference. Its all about experimentation tbh as everyone's tolerance levels are different.

The best way is to drop down to the bare minimum and introduce carbs/dairy slowly to see when they have an effect

tenementfunster · 12/09/2013 22:34

sounds like a plan, will do that with the dairy. tho to be fair, i have eaten cheese the size of a match box.....cook's matches !

JustasmallGless · 12/09/2013 22:37

Lol!

Trial and error though.

I have kept off the Greek yoghurt for a few weeks and have been a carby twat over the summer. Only put on a couple of lbs which am hoping I will kick the arse off with this bootcamp

Thanks all. Will get back on it tomorrow.
I do like this woe but find it quite restrictive to have no comfort food on a crappy day. However I AM losing weight so need to just push on through

EwanHoozami · 12/09/2013 22:42

Hello hello

B - Lidl yog
L - avocado salad
D - bottom-of-the-fridge soup (broccoli, cauli, spring onions and something that might once have been a swede)

I've lost 2 stone since starting this a year ago. 4 / 5 lbs has slunk back on over the last few weeks due to Not Following The Rules. Which I could kick myself for as for 11 months it was a completely instinctive, easy and enjoyable way of eating.

Back to it!

Huzzah for Braised Cabbage.

JustasmallGless · 12/09/2013 22:44

What's comfort food though??

Why do you comfort yourself with food?

It's interesting to explore the connection ith food and emotion

Seriously try and get the IPD book out of your local library. It's worth a read

BIWI · 12/09/2013 22:50

demented - Just has it absolutely right. Why do you feel the need for comfort food? Very glad that you're losing weight though!

OP posts:
Secondsop · 12/09/2013 22:53

IPD book is worth a read, but i personally found it most helpful to pick and choose the bits of their philosophy (but no picking and choosing re the diet rules!). Eg I never ever got down with the urging to see food as primarily fuel, because food is so much more to me - the planning and choosing of it, enjoying different tastes, getting excited about new recipes, sharing (eg my sister and I have a lovely time sharing low carb recipes). I could never see it as just fuel, so Ive found my own way of recognising and understanding my emotional response to food without simply cramming loads into me.

JustasmallGless · 12/09/2013 22:57

Second sop - totally agree!' The great thing about this WOE is TASTING food again.
Enjoying flavours of vegetables particularly ones which I have tried before ie celeriac

Never had a celeriac before last April. I love it now.

Pinterest has some great low carb recipe boards if you are interested?

halfthesize · 12/09/2013 23:00

Eve all, I hope the ones who are feeling rough feel better tomorrow, it does pass. I have to agree with Gless 'Nothing tastes as good as feeling thin' very wise wordsSmile

I ve been very good today, had bacon, egg and cheese muffins for breakfast, prawns for lunch, roasted belly of pork with asparagus, was yummy. Drank 7 pints of water and been to bootcamp for the first time, OUCH, OUCH, OUCH

Secondsop · 12/09/2013 23:22

justasmallgless I haven't looked at Pinterest for recipes but will give it a go! Agree entirely re tasting food. We've started getting weekly veg boxes delivered (i've excluded parsnips and carrots from the order, and my husband eats all the potatoes!) and I'm really enjoying seeing what's in it week by week and using them as the accompaniment to the meat (also delivered in a meat box). There's fennel today, which I've never cooked.

Lavenderhoney · 13/09/2013 03:59

Twit, that made me laugh about your ds wanting chicken korma:)

Yesterday I had

2 Nescafé coffees with cream
Brunch - I went to the gym after drop off and don't lke to eat before.
Cabbage, mushrooms and fried egg fried in butter ( leftovers really)
D- cauliflower with butter, courgettes fried in butter, and steak.

I remembered to put salt on my food, and don't feel so parched or exhausted.

2.5 l of water, and I had 3 slivers of vintage cheddar.

AND dh came home, poured me a G&T and I said " I'm lc" and didnt have it! Didnt even want it. I did physically back away though until he moved it:) just drank lots of water.

Sorry if TMI but I am not weeing so much? I was til yesterday, and I have been drinking 2.5 l of water! Where is it all?!

Stress and lack of sleep might be a reason I struggle this time.

we are going through a very very stressful time and i cant sleep or stop worrying when i am awake- and i am very very jumpy. A glass of wine used to help but of course none on the bootcamp!

there is really nothing I can do - have tried yoga, reading, soduku, warm baths) with all my worries losing weight seems so ridiculous and selfish, but it gives me something else to think about.

Good luck for today, everyone

hazchem · 13/09/2013 05:34

Daisychickens

Eggy Muggins are from a book called I Quit Sugar. (It's a great book but probably mainly boot camp maintence)

you put about 1/2 cup of cooked veggies and a knob of butter into a cup and microwave for 1-2 minutes then add in a egg or two beat and microwave for 1-2 minutes.

It's quick and easier to clean up then scrambled eggs and eating breakfast out of a cup is kinda fun!

KinkyDorito · 13/09/2013 06:20

I'm into my third week now and have lost about 9lbs, but it does fluctuate a lot. I do wonder if I'm eating enough fat. I put plenty on things, but not sure how much is enough.

For example, how much butter would you use to make some scrambled eggs for breakfast?

Livelongandprosper · 13/09/2013 06:30

Morning all. Urggggh. My head. More water, salt and fat today I think. I too have wondered about how much butter to put in scrambled eggs - I suppose it depends on how much fat you are eating during the rest of the day? Can you eat too much fat?
