So here we are! Over 160 of us signed up!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to enter your first weight

If you aren't on the list for any reason, just go to the bottom of the list and add your name - the lovely Willie will sort out the alphabetisation later.

From experience of previous Bootcamps, the chat thread can move very quickly! So, if you have a specific or particular question, please post it on the questions thread I will do my best to check it as often as I can, as will other seasoned Bootcampers.

If you have a really burning issue, please feel free to PM me and I will do my very best to help you as soon as possible.

And if you're looking for inspiration for things to cook, here's the recipe thread

Here is a brief reminder of the rules:

We do not eat any of the following during Bootcamp:

bread
rice
pasta/noodles
potatoes
flour
pastry
sugar
chocolate/sweets
biscuits/cookies
crisps

And here are the ten rules of Bootcamp:

  1. You must eat breakfast.
  2. Avoid processed food
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

More detail/explanation of these rules is on the spreadsheet ? look at the tabs at the bottom.

One final word from me ? the disclaimer! I am not a doctor, a scientist, a dietician nor a nutritionist. The advice that is given here is based on my own experience of low carbing, as well as the reading I have been doing over the last few years.

If you have a medical condition, or you are taking long term medication, please take advice from your GP/consultant before starting to low carb.

Good luck everyone!

Purple you're doing brilliantly! Your menu sounds perfect. Well done on getting to the full fat yoghurt stage Grin

Please don't suffer though. If you get the headache, take the paracetamol. Withdrawal shouldn't last for more than a couple of days.

Justasmallglass...will get the tape measure out this morning. The thing is I do feel so much better in myself, I felt like I should have lost weight if you know what I mean.

daisychicken · 13/09/2013 09:03

Hazchem - thanks, sound yum! I was looking at coddled egg recipes yesterday and they sound similar (can do in a cup as well!), will add to my list!

Someone mentioned fennel (sorry can't remember who) - tis yum! I do fennel in a tomato sauce to have with meatballs or I've cut the bulb in half and roasted with a chicken or I've used it in a ratatouille type dish - all mega yum!

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/09/2013 09:05

Well done everybody, with this woe I found I felt much slimmer, less bloated and generally better and sometimes the scales didn't seem to move, but over time they are going down, over 2 stone so far. I sometimes think you have to monitor the longer term weight loss. I like to remember that 2.5 lbs per month would mean just about two stone in a year. I also try to remember I didn't put all this weight on in 4 weeks so unlike to lose it in that time too! My top tip is up the water, the more water I drink and the earlier in the evening I eat dinner the quicker it goes off!!!!

BIWI · 13/09/2013 09:06

I love fennel!

I cut each bulb into quarters, and then parboil for around 5-7 minutes, till it's just going tender.

Then I saute them gradually in a frying pan with loads of butter, (sea salt and black pepper), until they are going nicely brown. Squeeze half a lemon over them before you serve.

Prettybird - I hadn't realised ibrufen was a major stall'er for this woe.... no wonder I struggle with that and amitriptyline! Anyone know about co-codomol? As long as I don't put weight on & not spotty (as I was with carbs) then I'm happy and any weight loss is a bonus - I figured it was better to change my attitude esp as I only need really to lose a few pounds!

daisychicken · 13/09/2013 09:08

Good fennel idea BIWI- thanks! Will add to my list! I did a waitrose order for today and have fennel and celeriac coming! Is it sad that I'm so excited for meals this week?!

JustasmallGless · 13/09/2013 09:15

Purple that looks good.
Maybe herbal teas to make it but more interesting for you?

Big batches of soup are good this time of year - really quick to make and fill you up particularly if you put swirl of cream of cheese in. Depends on the dairy tolerance obvd

Purple2012 · 13/09/2013 09:27

I was going to ask about green tea so I am having more than just water. Im not big on soups but when I do have soup I like it with crusty white bread!

NewStartNewStory · 13/09/2013 09:43

Morning.

Ds has been poorly and we had a long shouty conversation that growing a huge amount puts huge amounts of stress on the body and needing proper sleep and good quality food ie not the carby nonsense he loves and is easier to feed him as i am not getting back to him controlling food intake again We were talking about the 5 a day thing and that actually a load of it is industry sponsered nonsense polite version this morning he has chosen to have scrambled eggs for breakfast [proud]. Lunch is still pretty carby but getting him to eat at all at lunch is enough of a problem. Tea will me something meat and veg wise (and low carb).
I know there are people feeding their kids low carb diet. do we have any LC lunch box type ideas on the recipie thread/anywhere? Any one got any suggestions?

Starting to feel so much better again, nice to be back on this woe! Nice to be sleeping better again too. And even to be in a better place then last bootcamp as am virtually off the caffine. Grin Just about to head of for a rare training session. Going to feel weird as it wasn't so long ago I was training most days. I am avoiding the scales until monday. it is not about the scales for me. It is about a healthier WOL (way of living) so this woe is just part of a bigger picture. Grin

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/09/2013 09:58

newstart I don't feed DD low carb, but definitely lower carb if that makes sense! Lunches she likes include cheese cut into small cubes, meats (salami, mortadella, ham, salami are favourites), cucumber, carrot, pepper sticks (sometimes with dips - a yoghurt style one or hummus), tomatoes, olives, and fruit (usually berries, or apple) and she often has it with one small slice of wholemeal bread (that small hovis loaf) or a wrap that she puts things in.

Of course other days at the childminders she has jam sandwiches or fish fingers and potato smiles but when at home or going out for picnic those are the things she generally chooses to eat!

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/09/2013 09:58

Ps glad you are feeling good newstart

StuntNun · 13/09/2013 10:19

NewStart I don't feed my DCs low carb but they are definitely getting healthier food than before I started this WOE. I'm now an avid label checker and I have found myself being a lot more selective of foods for example it's amazing how many baby foods I have looked at the ingredients and thought I wouldn't want to feed that to DS3 because it contained dextrose or gluten or other additives.

JustasmallGless · 13/09/2013 10:29

Mrs Hp has pretty much covered the lunch box thing other than maybe cold sausages too.
There is a great book called eat like a dinosaur which is about paleo eating for kids and has an explanation at the front why we should eat like this.

I would love for mine to eat LC but this is a longer term goal. They are eating lower carb for now at home which is a start
How old is your DS newstart

Secondsop · 13/09/2013 10:33

daisychicken and biwi - it was me that has the veg box fennel! Thank you for the lovely recipe ideas.

EwanHoozami · 13/09/2013 10:33

newstart Did you ever see the Eat Like A Dinosaur book? It's a good template for lower-carb living for children although obv aligned with the paleo ethos (and I never really get their beef with beans)

I'm with MrsHP in that I'll reduce carbs wherever I can but totally accept that DS1 will regularly eat things beyond my control and that's OK. He doesn't have any dietary intolerances so I can't get grumpy about jam tarts and sausage rolls round his mate's house.

Lunchbox ideas for him include chicken skewers, fritattas, sometimes I wrap little gem and tomato in sliced turkey or those gouda slices that Lidl do.

Can I just say that I didn't ever notice a stall with ibuprofen. I have to take it fairly frequently for a joint condition and still lost a good heft of weight.

Who knows, it might have slowed me down. If you can easily switch from ibuprofen to paracetamol for a headache then do. But it's important to take the meds you need to, no one here would ever suggest otherwise.

silverangel · 13/09/2013 10:41

Hi all,

Is anyone else having an issue getting hold of celeriac - none in any of my local supermarkets. Are all the low carbers buying it up in bulk?!

On another note, have lost 4lb since Monday and feel way less bloated and sleeping better.

B - 2 cold leftover sausages
L - chicken salad w/ mayo and dressing
D - sheperds pie - was supposed to be celeriac mash but will now be swede, again, and some buttered green veg.

BIWI · 13/09/2013 10:45

Absolutely agree with Ewan. Please don't stop taking ibuprofen if you need to take it! Ibuprofen is a NSAID - a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, so it's particularly good for the pain that comes from inflammation. Paracetamol doesn't deal with inflammation as well.

I think it's like a lot of these things - some people will notice an effect whereas others won't.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeees! I had 2 days upping water, fat and generally eating more and the scales have dropped below that stubborn 65kg to 64.9. Finally. So in total that is exactly 10 kg gone since I started lo-carbing. Another 1.9 kg and I'm at my goal Smile

Intriguing how we are all different with what affects weight loss etc etc... I couldn't give up my meds... they just about keep me going some days.

I think we need to be realistic with weight loss in that it does take time and diets are not an instant solution (thinking of one friend in particular who constantly moans she's only lost 2lb etc on SW....) but also be realistic as to the fact that our bodies won't be the same as they were when we were teens or after we've had children! I do get Angry at celebrities and the media sometimes when they show unrealistic expectations or the signs of dieting with personal trainers (& nannies & money) or air brushing! Be realistic! I'm 39 today..! I will never look like that skinny 18 year old again so I should aim to look the best I can for my age not a teenager! Sorry rant over!

I don't feed my kids the LC way but I don't encourage sweets, puddings etc.. I have skinny kids and a skinny DH, they all eat tons and never show signs of putting on weight - just as I used to be pre-kids! I do get concerned that ds1 will eat 8-10 pieces of toast for breakfast though... I haven't figured out how to get round this yet as he insists on getting up earlier than me for breakfast and I struggle to cook in the mornings...

twistyfeet · 13/09/2013 11:04

I will say that initially I did paleo so the weight loss has been slower and returned to BIWI's boot camp to shift the last stubborn pounds. I will go back to paleo once I'm at my goal. Carbs are never going to be part of my diet again like they were. Not just because of my coeliacs diagnosis but because I feel so much better. My depression vanished after 25 years! I have energy, the bloatedness went away. Grains are bad mmmmmmkay Wink
