The other thread was almost full, so here's a bright, shiny new one.

And here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And just in case you haven't discovered it yet, here is the recipe thread. Some truly lovely recipes on here that are worth a try.

So are we all going to move to the bootcamp thread when it starts or stay here? I am confused!

Had lovely and very filling dinner tonight of roasted cauliflower, aubergine and halloumi with a tahini sauce. Did it with oregano, mint, rosemary and garlic and it was sooooo tasty :)

loopyloou · 31/08/2013 22:07

I imagine there'll be a new thread?

Mouseface · 31/08/2013 22:29

Lily - tis fine :) I'm happy to start the new BC and continue Camping (ooooooh, eeeeer missus) until then! Grin

And on that note, DH has just declared tonight not only treat night but date night so I'm offski!! Grin

TMI? Oh well, Nemo (aka DS with SN) has only JUST gone to sleep so I have to go for the green light whilst the going is good!! Wink

Night all xxx

I will start a new thread about planning for Bootcamp when we get back tomorrow. Then on Monday 9 September I will post the week 1 thread, which will have a link to Willie's Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness.

Monday 9 September will be our first weigh-in!

OP posts:
HerdyHerdwick · 01/09/2013 12:07

First post on the LC board, hope this is the right thread. I've name changed because I'm hoping this will be the start of a 'New Me'.

I'm 6st overweight according to my doctor. I'm barely 5'4", and I'm 15st2lb this morning. Blush. I'd be happy if I could get down to 10st 7lb though, as I'm older and I don't want to lose so much weight in case it makes me look haggard!

Anyway, I'm hoping to start Bootcamp next week - not today as my fridge/cupboards are still full of carby stuff that I need to get eaten. I'm trying to read up on all the threads etc. Also I've got the Pig to Twig book somewhere, bought it years ago but only looked at the pictures!

So my question is, have any of you lost a large amount of weight? Say 3st or more, and how long did it take you? Also I'm in my early 50's, do you think LC will still work for me? I am very carb addicted and get hungry easily. From reading the posts here it sounds as if once I get into LC those problems will be dealt with by the diet. I do feel like a hopeless case as I've been overweight for about 20 years and have tried everything to lose it, except LC. I'm trying to think positive though.

Purple2012 · 01/09/2013 13:01

herdy I have been carb addicted for years. All my meals and snacks have been carb based for years. Years ago I lost over 5 stone calorie counting and kept it off until I got an injury.

I put a lot of it back on and I started calorie counting again and exercising and lost over 2 and a half stone. I never lost the bloated feeling and if I didn't snack on fruit or rice cakes I would be hungry. I have about a stone and a half to lose.

I have also been veggie for 25 years but decided to start eating meat and low carb.

I have only been low carbing for a few days but I have not been hungry. I have been having huge low carb meals and the first day I took snacks to work byt didn't need them. I think if you eat more protein and fat you don't seem to get hungry and when you are a little hungry its not that growling hunger.

Good luck with it. And remember a lot of the time you think you are hungry will be habit rather than actual hunger.

HerdyHerdwick · 01/09/2013 13:06

Thanks purple. I find wheat to be incredibly bloating. Had some pasta for supper a couple of nights ago and within 30 minutes of eating I had to take my jeans off because my stomach had bloated so much it was painful.
I did lose about 2 stone on WW 10 years ago, but I was constantly hungry and gave up.

Anyway, thanks for your positive post. It's good to read that you haven't been hungry, as I seem to be constantly no matter how much I eat!

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 01/09/2013 13:16

I have been amazed by how flat my stomach has been since I start low-carbing. No bloat, no uncomfortable waist bands. I'm so pleased. And I haven't been hungry. Not once.

Mouseface · 01/09/2013 13:20

I can't recommend low carbing enough! I really, really can't. Now more IBS spasms and rushing to find a loo, no more bloating, less body fat, so much energy!

Grin

It's so easy once you get to grips with it... skin is clear, eyes are white and bright (apart from the bits that are supposed to be coloured!) and I have a waist! In the middle, where it should be! Shock Grin

Seriously, I've tried every bloody diet under the sun, but this WOE (Way Of Eating) is perfect for me. :)

Thank you again BIWI Thanks, without this thread and Crabby giving me the heads up on it, I'd be fighting the carb war still and feeling fat, fed up and fecked orf that I wasn't losing weight when eating low/no fat, fruit, wholemeal bread, healthy grains, whole wheat everything - rice and pasta, potatoes.... all things that just 'sit' with me.

I've found it's not expensive if you make sure you buy things in advance and have a good mix of 'allowed foods', and plan! I got caught out at the start a few times and did have a treat last night but that was my first one as such so I'm looking forward to the September weigh in :)

Why not give it a go, if Purple can lose weight in a few days, just think at what can be attached in a matter of months! :)

DISCLAIMER - I am not getting paid to post such positive things, I just love this WOE :)

Mouseface · 01/09/2013 13:59

Sorry for typos! Achieved, not attached! Grin Plus any others...... date night with DH has clearly left me in a bit of a ahem, state! Grin

HerdyHerdwick · 01/09/2013 14:00

Now more IBS spasms and rushing to find a loo,

mouseface that's me! urgency is an understatement. I didn't know that LC may help with that too. That's definitely very motivational for me to know. I'm loving all the inspiration on the LC threads, very positive.

loopyloou · 01/09/2013 14:26

Herdy, another one here with IBS. LC definitely helped mine, got rid of all bloating and wind. I think for me it was cutting out all wheat, although I'm not entirely certain whether dairy might cause a problem for me too. I was also amazed at how awake I felt, no more carb crashes, no more urgent hunger, no more shakiness which I thought was due to hunger but was low blood sugar I guess.

I struggle with emotional eating, when stressed or bored, but can honestly say that when eating three meals I was never hungry whilst losing weight.

The holidays have been difficult, due to me not planning well for when I was at work or whilst out and about. I'm looking forward to getting back on track.

HerdyHerdwick · 01/09/2013 14:59

Thanks loopyloou.

I will definitely need to plan too.
I'm sure you'll soon be back on track.

loopyloou · 01/09/2013 16:22

Good luck Herdy Smile

Planning my online shop with lots of low carb options now and dh coming on board too, has 4 - 5 stone to lose. We'll probably start later this week when dd goes back to school.

Ruprekt · 01/09/2013 16:40

Day 1 today. 1 Sept.

No more alcohol for me as I am back on the teetotal wagon Smile

I can do this and I am going to do it. LCing rocks and I lost lots last time.

Fat and water are the key.SmileSmile

Will weigh in next week.

Purple2012 · 01/09/2013 17:09

I am finding I am really thirsty and a bit achy with no energy. That won't last will it?

StuntNun · 01/09/2013 17:25

Make sure you drink lots of water Purple, I need at least four pints in addition to tea and herbal tea or I end up dehydrated by morning. The carb flu fatigued feeling should only last two or three days for most people.

Purple2012 · 01/09/2013 17:30

Thanks stuntnun I just tried exercising and managed about a quarter of what I normally do. I am drinking more water. My mouth feels really dry all the time.

BIWI · 01/09/2013 18:29

Herdy - I'm 54 now. I was 52 when I started low carbing seriously. I see no reason why age should be an issue for you, as long as you follow the rules.

I'm another one whose IBS symptoms disappear with this WOE!

Purple - make sure that as well as drinking plenty of water that you are also eating lots of fat. And keep up your salt intake..

OP posts:
LilyAmaryllis · 01/09/2013 18:44

Purple though you do need to make sure you drink lots of water, someone mentioned a couple of weeks ago that the really thirsty feeling is because you need to eat more electrolytes - sodium and potassium - which basically means adding more salt to your food. Which is another thing it feels odd to do after years of low-fat low-salt...

There's a website somewhere (I don't have the link, sorry) where the guy wakes up with cramps a lot, then realises he has to drink more water AND eat more salt.

I think you won't feel so tired quite soon.

I had scrambled egg (and salad) for breakfast, then we went out for lunch and the most exciting low-carb thing on the menu was omelette with salad. Come dinner-time DH suggested boiled eggs and salad... I had to say no as I didn't think I could do 3 eggy meals in a row!

Purple2012 · 01/09/2013 18:51

I love salt, but usually on chips and crisps! I will make sure I have plenty. I have really increased the amount of water I drink but I have bladder problems so at times I won't be able to drink lots if I won't be near a toilet!

StuntNun · 01/09/2013 19:28

I buy LoSalt which has potassium as well as sodium. You can also get fancy salts with magnesium and calcium in as well which may be useful for good nutrition.

Mouseface · 01/09/2013 20:07

BIWI - 5feckin4? Get the hell outta here!! You do NOT look your age, at all! WOW! I'm shocked by that! You gorgeous lady you!

Ruprekt - hello lovely, how are you doing? Are you geared up and ready to go come Sept 9th? I am so into this now.... :)

Stunt - LoSalt is what I use too but butter has an okay amount of salt in so using it to fry things off in is always a good call too... :)

Talking of Fancy Salts, we've just been to Anglesey and DH has bought some posh salt, pure salt from a salt place that makes salt and salt things in bags and boxes and stuff....... Grin

I stayed at the cottage as I had more interesting things to do like, erm, washing? Grin Seriously though DH got some Halen Mon Pure White Sea Salt whilst we were there and we had roast beef tonight, (minus the spuds, gravy and yorkshires for me) and it really did make a difference which sounds daft but it really drew the flavours our of the beef. :) And salt is zero carbs!! Although not great is large quantities for the old kidneys

Anyway - life is all good here, I had beef, 3 slices of carrot (round shaped incase you were wondering Grin and 3 small bits of broccoli which I fried off in butter with a bit of garlic and black pepper whilst DH steamed the rest for the family. Lush!

Dessert will be a few sliced up strawbs and some double cream on top and then bed after a bit of tv. I also need to get Nemo to bed and back into a school routine!! So, even though he's not back until Tuesday and DD Wednesday, we're getting up at 7.30 tomorrow.

Big school. Little fish..... I might be a bit off for a day or two tomorrow, sorry in advance for any emotional posts! Blush xxx

Ruprekt · 01/09/2013 20:20

Hi Mouse! SmileSmile Knew you would love it! How much have you lost?

B...scram eggs with bacon

S...cream cheese pancakes with cream

D...fried onions with very thin courgettes, added pack shredded salmon flakes and cream. Was fabulous!

Need more water but doing well today. SmileSmileThanks

Hello everyone - belated Happy Birthday BIWI!

I'm back after a week in France. I've been off the wagon, thanks mainly to my parents who joined us it's never my fault but think I've only gained a few pounds.

Today I've been back on the wagon, and of course I'm looking forward to the new Bootcamp a week tomorrow!
