Well done everyone who completed the Summer Bootcamp!

here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to continue adding to it

Obviously there are many of us who want to continue, either to lose more weight or just for general support to help with this WOE, so here is a brand new, shiny chat thread.

As for me, having slipped a lot a little when I was away, I'm firmly back on the wagon today.

And can I remind you, that if you haven't completed the survey we would be very grateful for your views/thoughts on how we can improve Bootcamp.

stuntnun wow well done!!

BerylStreep · 26/07/2013 23:13

Stuntnun well done!

SmokinAces I can't really see why you would need to have a few carbs if you are planning to have some G&Ts. Stick to the low carb, and have a couple of drinks.

I quite like a G&T with about 1/3 diet tonic and topped up with lots and lots of soda. You still get the tonic flavour without it being overly sweet.

smokinaces · 26/07/2013 23:28

pretty I have mayonaisse, full fat philli, pork belly etc. I just couldn't cope with breakfasts so have the vlcd packs as they are low low carb. I don't calorie count in the day, and eat nuts etc. I am never hungry I admit. Part why I like this way of eating.

Beryl, I was just worried as I read that if I am in ketosis and drink it can be bad? As in dangerous, kill you bad. Is this not the case? I don't want to fall over though, so might have a few new potatoes or something in my lunch save me getting disgustingly drunk.

BerylStreep · 26/07/2013 23:33

Smokin Have you a link to that? It's the first I have heard of it and trust me, I am well versed in LC and alcohol

smokinaces · 26/07/2013 23:36

No, on windows phone and won't let me do links. Sucky thing.
but google low carb ketosis alcohol and there's links about blood sugars and stuff. I don't normally believe all I read on the net, but put the heebies in me.

CrabbyBigBottom · 26/07/2013 23:38

Congratulations Stunt!

New well done on hitting your 70kg target. Smile

Lily I am going to carry on. Yesterday was a bit of a disaster, carb-wise. We went out for lunch with MIL and I had three quarters of a slice of toast with the delicious paté, and then had a bit of the sweet sauce that went with the otherwise low carb brie wedges coated in nuts and deep fried. It was all very yum though. We had friends to dinner and I made kashmiri butter chicken and spiced cauliflower, but we got some sides, rice and naans from the takeaway to go with it and I indulged in that along with copious amount of wine.

Today I had the last of the naan with leftovers today, and that's me back on the wagon now. My tummy looks and feels really bloated after all that bread. Dinner was homemade pesto with courgette pappardelle, mushrooms, chorizo and tomatoes.

StuntNun · 27/07/2013 03:29

If you're going to slide then at least it was yummy food Crabby. What kind of nuts was the Brie coated in? It sounds intriguing.

BIWI · 27/07/2013 08:37

Being in ketosis means that your body is burning fat. I fail to understand why drinking alcohol would suddenly kill you! And, trust me, there wouldn't be many Bootcampers left if that were the case Grin

If you're going to drink alcohol, it can have a more significant effect on your body if you've not been eating many carbs, so I might say eat a higher carb meal before you go out. But don't over do it.

Wow I have no hunger at all today! Had to make myself eat a couple of spoonfuls of Greek yogurt and about 1/4 of a mini crust less quiche I made yesterday (fortunately 9mo dd was happy to wolf the rest down as I couldn't face any more of it!). Am still feeling tired though but dc had a rough night and it may just be lack of sleep rather than carb flu...
Crabby sounds like you fall off the wagon in style! Sounds like you had a great time- after all, no point doing things in half measures! Grin. Hope that applies to getting back on the wagon too though. This woe has been really good at helping me identify my problem with emotional eating / eating when bored. I find myself looking for a snack in the fridge but then realise I'm not hungry and close it again!

smokinaces · 27/07/2013 09:35

Biwi, you star. Knew I could trust you. Will take it easy and have a carb meal later too. Don't want to undo everything in one weekend.

I was on bootcamp this time last year and got to this weight for my birthday, and I know I drank a lot then and im not dead!!

Tweasels · 27/07/2013 09:47

Morning, I've not posted on this thread before so "hello".

Started low carbing on Monday, have done this and every other diet ever invented before so am quite well up on what I'm doing.

However, for the past 3 days I've had stomach cramps, this morning, they are horrendous and I have diarrhoea.

Do you think this might be related to suddenly eating fat?

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/07/2013 10:20

tweasels possibly, I get dodgy tummy for a short while (up to a week) at the start...

Tweasels · 27/07/2013 10:23

Thanks MrsH, I'm guessing it's because I've gone straight from a low fat diet to this so stomach isn't happy.

Ah well, it'll help the weight loss along Wink

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/07/2013 11:09

That's the way I always view it!!!

ChippingInHopHopHop · 27/07/2013 12:28

Hi all - I have still been having laptop problems and for some reason it hates this thread?! Anyway, it has been to the 'Drs' and is a little bit better... though needs major 'surgery' really.

I went down a couple of pounds, then straight back up again - whilst still eating/doing the same things. Frustrating, but hey...

Tooooo many posts to name-check, but :) :( GrinAngry & Thanks as appropriate :)

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 27/07/2013 14:25

Hello just finished reading whole thread and now checking in. Been low carb and 5:2 since 9 July. Doing a low carb light with up to 60g carbs a day. Started at 157 lb and now 150lb, goal is 140lb. Also swimming and doing Shred. Was on this WOE nearly three years ago until I got pregnant. Love eating like this. Thanks for all the great advice and sharing stories.

Ps. Anyone else combining fasting or 5:2 with LC?

CheeseAndMushroomToastie · 27/07/2013 15:13

Hello all. Need to introduce myself on here so that I actually get stuck into this diet. I am 12st 10lbs at the moment, BMI of 29 and a size 16. I would like to lose at least two stone. Ds2 is 16 weeks old and I'm EBF. I am a terrible snacker but have in the last week managed to cut other bread, croissants, brioche etc but with a three year old they are inevitably in my shopping basket. Can I ask what you snack on, what you buy that is ready made? Also what do for soft drinks? I normally drink lots of squash and water and orange juice, with one can of diet coke a day but I'm getting a bit bored of water already..Hmm also a bit of a chocoholic so suggestions there would be appreciated too!

BIWI · 27/07/2013 15:17

One of the really important benefits of low carbing is that it significantly curbs your appetite. So you won't need to snack. That said, if you find you are hungry, then eat! Cheese makes a good low carb snack, as do olives.

Can I also ask why it's inevitable that things like croissants and brioche are in your shopping basket? They are not compulsory!

Re soft drinks, I'm afraid that things like squash, juice and diet Coke are all out on this WOE. Try putting slices of lemon/lime or even cucumber in your water.

As far as chocolate goes, you really would be better to go for as long as you possibly can without eating any, so that you break the addiction to sugar that you almost certainly have. After a period of around 2 weeks of going without you may not crave it quite so much. A chocolate with a high cocoa content will be allowable, as long as it's not too much/too often!

Had a day off when toddler was in hospital and felt awful after it. Back on track today but bought two huge tubs of the fat free total yoghurt instead of the fat one grrr.

Vinividivino · 27/07/2013 17:14

Hello everyone - I'm a newbie to LC but loving it so far! Unless BIWI and others tell me otherwise, I made a yummy breakfast this morning which i thinkis LC (so good that I can't believe I'm allowed this). A small tub of Total yoghurt (full fat of course) with a third of a tub of extra thick double cream mixed in until the two are completely combined. Added a few raspberries on top (not strictly allowed but it was just a very few!). To be honest the creamy mixture was so filling and delicious that I could have it on its own. Am I missing something here? This is too good surely!

BerylStreep · 27/07/2013 17:56

I bought 3 different jars of almond butter from a lady on a stall outside Sainsbury's.

Plain Almond
Almond and cinnamon
Almond & 85% Fair trade chocolate

Have had a couple of teaspoonfuls of the almond and chocolate and it is is gorgeous! For anyone in NI, she is Keen nutrition and sells at a lot of markets & fairs

BeenieBaby · 27/07/2013 18:08

After a great start I ad a couple of wobbles today- ate ds's mini apple as I was feeling too woozy from carb withdrawal and had a chunk of blueberry Wensleydale. Was so good to taste the sweetness!

BIWI · 27/07/2013 18:37

Vini - it's like feeling that you've been let into a secret club, isn't it?! Grin

Beenie - it's a good job that we're not Bootcamping properly, otherwise my Big Stick would be out in force ...

Vinividivino · 27/07/2013 19:09

Biwi-hehe, yes, that's exactly what it feels like!

Apologies to whoever posted the original link, I can't find the original post again to namecheck you but a giant thank you for the pork tenderloin and celeriac and sage dauphinoise recipe - we made it tonight and it was gorgeous! My DH refuses to believe it is 'diet' food. I'm off to polish my Low Carb halo but in the meantime, if anyone else missed it too, it's here - with acknowledgements and thanks to the OP!

NewStartNewStory · 27/07/2013 19:40

I forgot to eat lunch today. Not only did i forget to eat lunch i also lost an entire afternoon. How on earth do I stop this all obsessive focus whereby eating is not seen as possible. It really sets my up for snacking and I would rather avoid that. Had a meal that was nicely heavy in fat for tea. Need to drink more water tonight. But the question is do i need to eat more too?

Breakfast: scrambled eggs
Tea: leaks and mushrooms fried in an over generous amount of butter with philadelphia stirred in and then all dumped over cauli with some cheese grated on top
