Well done everyone who completed the Summer Bootcamp!

here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to continue adding to it

Obviously there are many of us who want to continue, either to lose more weight or just for general support to help with this WOE, so here is a brand new, shiny chat thread.

As for me, having slipped a lot a little when I was away, I'm firmly back on the wagon today.

And can I remind you, that if you haven't completed the survey we would be very grateful for your views/thoughts on how we can improve Bootcamp.

Nooooooooo don't lose motivation cos you have a flatter stomach. use it to motivate you! you want to KEEP it like that! keeping the smaller tits is my motivation

I stood on the scales this morning. I have hit my 70kg target Grin so now I am aiming for 10 1/2stone. Would be nice to hit that by the end of the summer. perhaps a tad optomistic but would be nice.

littlecrystal · 25/07/2013 09:42

Good morning. My 2nd day here.
B: 2 eggs, sausage, 1 tomato + bit cheese omlette
L: paneer cheese with iceberg lettuce and drop of thai chilli sauce
D: don't know yet...
Just had my breakfast and coffee, feeling low, deprived and (emotionally?) hungry. Do not have any snack on hand which makes it worse. Though could eat a horse! Not sure how I will last until Lunch.
On top of starting LC I also made a promise to myself to reduce my spending for food and snacks, especially at work, so that's a lot of pressure to take.

Btw, any reason why you all fry things in butter? Is oil no good?
And any reason why cream has to be double? Not single?

CrabbyBigBottom · 25/07/2013 09:48

little if you're hungry you absolutely need to eat - don't let your body think you're in starvation mode and start hanging on for dear life to your fat reserves! Wink That does sound a lot of pressure you're putting on yourself, especially as I found the WOE more expensive to start with as I was buying all sorts of low carb foodstuffs to experiment with and stop me getting hungry or tempted. Now though, I don't think it's any more expensive as I've honed and refined the shopping list and there's less wastage. Maybe give yourself a week or two before you try economising?

Single cream is higher in carbs than double.
Butter is recommended on this diet and is very high in nutrients. I don't personally see any reason to fry with that rather than olive oil if you prefer olive oil, though.

Eglute · 25/07/2013 10:20

LilyAmaryllis thank you :) Yeah, I am the same.. it was mission impossible to go until lunch without snacking as now I feel I could wait longer until my lunch. And portion sizes went down as well. :)

littlecrystal - I would not have that drop of chili sauce if I were you :)

My advice would be - drink a lot of water. It is not even 10.30 yet and I had 5 glasses already. Seriously if fills you in. And it is soooooo good for your skin :)
I find veg fried in butter really tasty :) That is why I use butter instead of oil

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 25/07/2013 10:49

I was bad. End if term do on tues night and I ate well (cold meats and salad) but drank 4 glasses of white wine. So I felt awful yesterday. Managed ok until I put the kids to bed then ate a large packet of skips (yuk?! What was I thinking?) and a caramel wafer and a slither of chocolate cake. Totally not like me to pig out and have undone a good weeks work.
No wonder I'm STS. Sad

WillieWaggledagger · 25/07/2013 10:57

there are some concerns about olive oil creating unhealthy trans-fats when heated, so i tend to use olive oil or coconut oil, but i will use olive oil for e.g. roasted veg as i like the flavour

as crabby says, single cream is higher carb and lower fat than double cream, so double cream is the better choice

littlecrystal as it's only your second day it will almost certainly be carb cravings making you feel hungry - after a good breakfast like you've had you're unlikely to be physically hungry. but do eat something as otherwise you'll risk falling face first into toast or something. once you're in the swing of it you shouldn't need to snack, but while the carbs still have a hold on you then making sure you have low carb things to hand to tide you over is sensible - small portions of cheese, a couple of spoonfuls of full fat greek yoghurt etc

WillieWaggledagger · 25/07/2013 11:02

sorry, i tend to use butter and coconut oil

as eglute says, butter tastes nicer too!

and agree with the drink more water suggestion

WillieWaggledagger · 25/07/2013 11:04

for those starting or re-starting low carbing, BIWI has posted these in the past which are v helpful

tips and tricks part 1
tips and tricks part 2, including stuff about electrolytes

StuntNun · 25/07/2013 12:53

I reckon I looked dead healthy in McDonalds just now when I ordered a grilled chicken salad with no dressing and a black coffee. What the girl didn't know was that I had a jar of homemade olive oil and sherry vinegar dressing (also included salt, pepper and garlic granules) stashed away in my handbag so I poured about 300 calories of dressing over my 150 calorie salad! Blush

littlecrystal · 25/07/2013 13:14

Shamefully I just had my second lunch of 3 egg omlette with chorizo and bacon. Full? Not sure. Feeling guilty and (emotionally?) hungry.

Eglute · 25/07/2013 13:26

StuntNun - hahahaha well done :) Grin

littlecrystal - no need to feel guilty if you stick with this diet :) Fry some chicken legs to fill you in :) Make some salad with lettuce and cucumber and olive oil or something you fancy :)You are allowed to eat so many delicious food that will definitely keep you full and happy :) Do not feel guilty about eating eggs and bacon 3 times a day :))

BIWI · 25/07/2013 13:48

littlecrystal - why are you feeling guilty?

There is no point being hungry and this WOE is not about depriving yourself of food.

If you're eating enough fat and drinking enough water you will soon find that your appetite diminishes considerably!

Crabby are you going to carry on? (You should eat breakfast particularly if you're off boozing later in the day!!...)

I guess at least now you know the way to get back to that waistline, if that ever becomes necessary.

Can you move to maintenance-style, eg see what your tolerance is for carbs for just staying-the-same?

At the moment I think I'm in this for the relatively long-term, partly I'm curious to see what my weight could drop down to. I've been heavy for so long it is a real novelty to be losing weight. Secondly I don't like my memories of how carbs make me feel - instantly hungry again, blood sugars up and down etc

StuntNun · 25/07/2013 18:37

I have hit the wine after a hard night and day with a teething baby. DH has been informed that bottle feeding will be required tonight.

B: strawberries and Greek yoghurt
L: McDonalds flamegrilled chicken and bacon salad with my own dressing smuggled in my handbag Blush
S: roasted chicken thigh and drumstick (in between baby tantrums)
D: steak, pak choi and fried mushrooms with more wine BlushBlush

Eglute · 25/07/2013 19:55

B tzaziki (yogurt and mayo and vinegar and garlic and cucumber)
L fried mushrooms and asparagus with more tzaziki
D spinach salad ( spinach, cucumber, spring onion, 2 tomatoes) with mayo and olive oil dressing and some cooked turkey breast

A lot of water.. Probably more than 3 litres. I'm surprised I'm not leaking yet.

I didn't feel hungry today so I went for light meals..

NewStartNewStory · 25/07/2013 19:59

I wobbled badly. I need to find a way to sort out the overtired unconcious picking i do. In the meantime i am already tuck up in bed and going to try to catch up on some sleep if the over keen diy-er finishes anytime soon.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 25/07/2013 20:42

I feel so good tonight! Half way through week 4 and had a great workout. First good one in ages. On Monday I felt like I was running in treacle but did al fresco Zumba tonight and was full of energy. Is this the turn?! Also not feeling hungry.
B: few spoons of egg mayo
L: avo and chicken mixed with some pesto and mayo
S: 2 coffees with cream and a handful of cashew nuts.
D: curry as below

Found this great easy curry recipe
Did it as recipe but half cream half yoghurt. 'twas lovely.
Then did it with a little red onion, prawns and aubergine and was delicious. Tonight I'm doing it with left over chicken, courgette and cauliflower - will let you know Smile

Secondsop · 25/07/2013 21:48

littlecrystal biwi has said what I was about to say - eat until you are no longer hungry, including plenty of fat, and keep drinking the water, and I for one found that after a while my appetite was very much diminished and the portion sizes sort of took care of themselves.

LilyAmaryllis · 25/07/2013 23:05

No Cheese Today!

B - scrambled egg, tomato
L - smoked mackerel, salad, mayo (hardly had the appetite to eat it)
D - fried egg, ratatouille, broccoli... 3 strawberries

BeenieBaby · 26/07/2013 07:22

It'll be a week tomorrow since I started and a sneaky step on the scales shows I've lost jut over 3lbs! Amazing!!

I've got a afternoon tea to go to on Sunday though and not sure what i'll be able to eat... I might have to have a tiny piece of sandwich or cake as I don't want to get into a LC discussion!

Eglute · 26/07/2013 08:14

Good morning :)

It is another lovely morning. Sunshine really makes a difference huh..? :)

BeenieBaby - well done for you!! Flowers

LilyAmaryllis - does cheese make a difference to your weight loss?

I jumped on bathroom scales this morning and I feel happy again. It seems the eight is melting :)

What is carb flue? I do not have any cravings for carbs but I do feel a bit shaky and tired this morning. No appetite as well so I only having few Babybels for breakfast...
Is it normal to feel shaky and tired? It is my 5th day

BeenieBaby · 26/07/2013 08:22

Hi Eglute! Sounds like carb flu. I feel the same. Just no energy and irritable. And very strangely no appetite and yet I feel hungry. And I am eating more often(but small quantities) as I feel hungry again soon after eating although I don't find my food appetising. It's a very strange feeling! In really hoping it passes soon!

Eglute · 26/07/2013 08:26

Well I hope it will go away soon.. I do feel a bit light headed as well and absent minded. It feel a little bit like after restless night..I agree it is a strange feeling

BIWI · 26/07/2013 08:34

It is carb flu, Eglute, and you will soon be through it. Drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fat and make sure you have plenty of salt in/on your food. A hot drink made with Oxo or Marmite or Bovril will help with the salt

I don't know if any of you subscribe to Dr John Briffa's weekly newsletter, but if you don't, then you should!

This week there's a really interesting piece about his run in with Unilever, their 'independent' dietician and what they are claiming about fat. here

Just illustrates how vested interests do their best to keep us believing that fat is bad, so that they can profit ...
