Well done everyone who completed the Summer Bootcamp!

here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to continue adding to it

Obviously there are many of us who want to continue, either to lose more weight or just for general support to help with this WOE, so here is a brand new, shiny chat thread.

As for me, having slipped a lot a little when I was away, I'm firmly back on the wagon today.

And can I remind you, that if you haven't completed the survey we would be very grateful for your views/thoughts on how we can improve Bootcamp.

Oh and coffee - I don't think there's a ban on tea or coffee. Lots of people talk about the disgusting sounding bulletproof coffee (google it). I can't see why coffee and cream wouldn't be fine. I await BIWI/Willie to say if its not!

LilyAmaryllis · 24/07/2013 20:48

B - cheese omelette, tomato
L - a picnic at the park - small amount cheese and salad
D - roasted veg & cheese sauce

WHAT was that I was saying about moderation on cheese! Oops! This wasn't planned...

OhCobblers · 24/07/2013 21:08

B small amount of white yoghurt as really not hungry + black coffee.
L small veal escalope fried in butter with kale.
S babybel and small chunk of cheddar
D sea bass fillets + leftover piece of veal that needed cooking today! Plus kale and mushrooms all cooked in butter.

Only about 10g carbs - is that ok? Am still off booze but not drinking enough water - about 5 glasses so far today.

WillieWaggledagger · 24/07/2013 21:26

Black coffee is the ideal, but coffee with double cream is better than coffee with milk. Milk is quite high carb and very low fat (even full fat is relatively low fat) and carbs can very quickly add up if you drink lots of hot milky drinks. However, I will have maybe one coffee a day with semi skimmed milk because it's what is available at work and I don't really like black coffee. I don't have more than one cup though.

If you do some reading, there are some studies that suggest caffeine can hinder weight loss (I think it can interfere with your blood sugar levels), so you may feel it's worth cutting down or switching to decaf. I tend to drink decaf unless I really need the pick-me-up, and the low carbing means I don't get the mid-morning and mid-afternoon slumps any more which helps. I have a very addictive personality I think as once I get into the caffeine habit my consumption goes up very quickly and I get shaky and prone to migraines.

IIRC Biwi hasn't stopped having coffee and is doing fine. The only thing you have to watch out for is the carbs that can creep in through lots of milk, or too much cream if you have problems with dairy

BeenieBaby · 24/07/2013 21:33

stuntnun I don really want to lay off the exercise- I really enjoy the class and its my only break from the kids!
timidviper don't really want to do toast, but maybe I'll do a seed fruit and nut yogurt bowl before I go next time..

WillieWaggledagger · 24/07/2013 21:39

Beeniebaby you will get back to previous levels once keto-adapted, and may even find your performance improves too as a result

It is frustrating up to that point though, and when you're switching to low carb high levels of exercise can trigger carb crav

WillieWaggledagger · 24/07/2013 21:40

... Cravings, so just be aware of that

OhCobblers · 24/07/2013 21:52

Is it normal to have a dodgy tummy in the early weeks? Blush

NoelHeadbands · 24/07/2013 22:18

Beenie my husband ran a marathon and the Three Peaks challenge earlier this year on a low carb diet. He regularly cycles 40-odd miles as well.

It was tough for a few weeks until he keto-adapted, but thereafter it worked out really well. Worth hanging in if you can.

Also, just on coffee- I'm one of the few who caffeine gives a problem too. Using Ketostix has shown that regular intake of coffee throws me out of ketosis, and I stop losing weight. Bummer.

StuntNun · 25/07/2013 07:07

My weight had started dropping again since I got back into the swing of things after my holiday Grin with a slight bump in the road caused by haggis consumption. It looks like I'll have lost a stone in total by Monday! Then I have four weeks to lose the last three pounds to reach my target pre-pregnancy weight (10 stone 6 lb) by the end of the school holidays, which is my initial goal and is now looking achievable. Smile I was the same weight for about five years before this pregnancy so I think that has helped with the weight loss as I'm losing the pregnancy weight gain and returning to my equilibrium point iykwim.

My long-term goal is then to lose another 13 lb to get back to the weight I was aged 25. I don't know how achievable that will be as I haven't been great at sticking to the rules so I'm sure I'll plateau at some point. But then I won't be breastfeeding DS3 forever and then I'll be able to start eating eggs again which will make the WOE a lot easier for me. I'm relying heavily on chicken thigh and leg meat for protein at the moment because DH can get it really cheaply: 12 chicken thighs for £1 from the factory shop. Not ideal but it'll have to do for now.

MrsHerculePoirot · 25/07/2013 07:37

ohcobblers yes - people seem to go dodgy tummy or constipated it seems. It does pass though I find.

cjclegg coffee with cream is fine, but don't have too many. Caffeine as others have said can slow weight loss in some people and the carbs in the milk if you have that can easily add up.

Cherrypi · 25/07/2013 07:39

Well done Stuntnun. No weight loss today despite resisting all the lovely things at a buffet last night grump grump.

CorrieDale · 25/07/2013 07:41

Timid viper how do you make your cream cheese pancakes? They sound gorgeous.

The second week is going ok. Last week I lost 3 1/2 lbs and I'm pleased with that. This week I think I'm haven't been drinking enough water. I did my taekwondo grading last night and, as I'd hoped, the adrenaline carried me through. It was so hot though! I don 't think any of us were very impressive - I certainly wasn't at any rate and, more worryingly, DS was even less so. I fear we may get disappointing news tonight.

I have renewed my ax

WillieWaggledagger · 25/07/2013 07:46

cream cheese pancakes (not sure if this is the recipe viper uses?) - i leave out the cinnamon and sweetener

CorrieDale · 25/07/2013 07:48

Whoops!

I was going to mention liquorice tea. It tastes quite sweet and I probably need to check the carbs but it was lovely for a treat yesterday.

Today I am going to make iced coffee!! Stevia and cream and lots of coffee. I 'm in ketosis according to the little sticks, so my coffee habit can reign undisturbed!

WillieWaggledagger · 25/07/2013 08:02

i find liquorice tea suspiciously sweet... even if it's carb free i wonder whether it triggers an insulin reaction, not sure though

be very careful about using sweeteners

captainmummy · 25/07/2013 08:06

Corrie - i always recommend liquorice tea for those craving sweet thing! Its carb free, so fine and really sweet..

I went to a fab circus-type thing last night in london - strongman, acrobats, trapeze, fire eater, bendy man - was brilliant. Small venue, ringside seats, right up close! Went with my boys, I ate beforehand as i knew they'd want burgers (did have 3 chips tho and the tomatoes they remove fastidiously from the bun) and had 2 glasses wine instead Blush - but then went on and had a pint (i think) of Pimms, made with lemonade! God it was sweet. I could barely drink it - tried to get ds1 and 2 to drink it for me! How many carbs in a pint of lemonade? I daren't check.

Food-wise good, drinks v v bad.

captainmummy · 25/07/2013 08:07

Oh willie - i forgot about the insulin response for liquorice tea. Yes might be worth checking that.

WillieWaggledagger · 25/07/2013 08:13

i've tried googling and this suggests it should be ok, but i can't find a definitive answer and there's not much info out there. i'm probably worrying unnecessarily!

Eglute · 25/07/2013 08:53

Good morning girls :)

I lost another 0.5 lb.! Seriously I cannot believe that it works!! So I lost 3 lb. in 4 days. It is Unbelievable. My appetite seems to calm down and I do not snack between the meals maybe that helps. And I also drink a lot of water. I feel so very happy that this WOE works perfectly for me. Not only have I eaten everything I like and not starving myself at all :) Heaven

LilyAmaryllis · 25/07/2013 09:12

Well done Eglute and enjoy! I know exactly what you mean. To get from breakfast to lunch without snacking used to be an impossible challenge. Now its more like, "I suppose I should have lunch".

Keep going! Remember - come week 3/4/5 the weight loss will slow down/stay the same - this is normal, so just keep on eating and after that the weight should continue to come off, perhaps not as quick as right now, 1lb or 2lb a week.

I found my first two weeks on this WOE made such a great difference to my body shape that I felt well motivated to carry on and see the more gradual benefits after that. The new trousers I bought after the first lot of weight loss are now only staying up with the help of a belt...

Negroni · 25/07/2013 09:15

nearly just getting back from yesterday. I don't know if a little bit of cake would stop weight loss for the week - it depends on the size of the slice and your body. If you are very lucky and it wasn't much cake you may still be in ketosis! Either way don't fret as a sliver of cake won't add pounds of fat, though unfortunately this WOE does work best if you stick to it strictly.

All ok here. Still totm and not sure managing to drink enough. I think I am a a pound up this week which isn't a surprise after too much cream, too many berries and nuts and not enough water. Hoping to sort this by the weekend!

CrabbyBigBottom · 25/07/2013 09:18

Thanks Negroni and sorry to hear you're having to cope with a clingy baby whilst trying to work. I think the heat makes everything worse actually. I'm absolutely hopeless at remembering dates but for some reason I remember the date DD's first tooth came through 5th Aug '03 - it was the hottest day of the year and I was getting her to sip water out of a glass and heard the little 'chink' of something against the glass. Lo and behold there was her first tooth. Grin Man, she was grumpy!

Stunt I would do recipe requests for things I like, but sadly ribs have never appealed to me - too fiddly! Grin I'll have a look at recipes though and see if I can suggest a low-carb version?

I was going to attempt to draw a discreet veil over yesterday's food choices, but I think I'm in need of a good beating from BIWI's stick so I'm going to confess all.
B - none
L - goats cheese and tomatoes
S - the rest of the goats cheese and tomatoes
All ok so far although not enough food...
Then went to to pub with some friends for end of term drinks. Had a bottle (a pint I think) of Aspall's cider. Not the end of the world, though very carby, but I just about managed to avoid the chips, pizza etc that everyone was eating. I realised I was really hungry too and hence finding it very hard to resist. But then got home, couldn't be arsed to cook anything proper and so had
D - sausage sandwich! Blush Four black farmer sausages in a ciabatta roll with mustard. It was bloody lovely but I felt very cross with myself after.

Someone give me a good whacking please; I've veered totally off-piste the last few days with the peshwari naan debacle and now this. I've still got just under a stone to lose to get to my ideal BMI and I want to keep going but I think I'm so pleased with my waist at the mo (it's always been my best bit and with this WOE the complete lack of tummy bloating has meant my stomach looks much flatter. I'm not quite comfortable in all my size 12s but I'm nearly there and I think my motivation has just slackened now. Also I'm large breasted and they aren't the most pert things you've ever seen. Hmm They're looking a little 'emptier' now and I'm nervous of them looking very saggy if I lose much more.

Come on and kick me up the arse, laydeez... Grin

CrabbyBigBottom · 25/07/2013 09:22

Oh and a big well done Flowers to all the losers - it's great when that weight starts to drop off!

A word about liquorice - it's reputedly a great herb for nourishing your adrenal system and combating chronic stress, but it can raise your blood pressure so don't drink gallons of it if you have any suggestion of hypertension. A little of it goes a long way though so I'd have thought it would be good in small amounts.
