Well done everyone who completed the Summer Bootcamp!

here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to continue adding to it

Obviously there are many of us who want to continue, either to lose more weight or just for general support to help with this WOE, so here is a brand new, shiny chat thread.

As for me, having slipped a lot a little when I was away, I'm firmly back on the wagon today.

And can I remind you, that if you haven't completed the survey we would be very grateful for your views/thoughts on how we can improve Bootcamp.

I am getting ready for the day after a run and what do I smell wafting up the stairs? Toast! I deliberately have not been buying sliced bread in order to prevent this, and the bastards have just toasted wraps!!! The smell...

CorrieDale · 22/07/2013 08:10

Dd didn't even finish her toasted wrap!!!

Has anybody else found that they are lacking energy? I ran my route much better 2 weeks ago than I have the twice I've done it while low carbing. And I mean much much better. DH says it's the lack of glycogen and I should have spaghetti for lunch on Wednesday (doing a taekwondo grading that evening). I'm not so sure because I fartleked the last road home and coped fine with that - it's the long slow running that does for me! And Tkd has a lot more in common with interval training than marathon running.

CorrieDale · 22/07/2013 08:13

Elizabeth I have total yogurt with stevia and almonds. Though today I had it with defrosted blackberry purée I have a horrible feeling there may have been sugar in it but not enough for me to taste it.

WillieWaggledagger · 22/07/2013 08:22

corrie that is absolutely normal with respect to the running - your dh is right that your glycogen is depleted which makes it harder until your body has fully switched over to fat-burning for energy

i didn't do exercise for ages and for a couple of weeks any exertion felt like moving through treacle

once your body is 'keto-adapted' (accustomed to using fat as its energy source) everything becomes much easier, and i find i exercise better before eating these days. don't be tempted by the pasta - it will just put you back to square one

CrabbyBigBottom · 22/07/2013 09:58

Willie thanks so much, I'm sure it'll pass. A bit of delayed shock I think.

New sorry to hear you've been having a rough time. Sounds like the icecream was the lesser of two evils under difficult circumstances! Want to talk about it?

Millie I am Envy of your trip to Italy, although actually I can't tolerate this heat very well so would rather go there in spring or autumn. May I shamelessly promote my blog (which admittedly I haven't been updating much as concentrating more on the other one) if you want meal ideas? I might put up the ragù alla sort of bolognese one today. You could get into the Italian groove before you go. Wink

Corrie I have to put up with the smell of toast wafting up the stairs every weekend morning from DP having it with his boiled eggs (god I love dippy eggs with soldiers too!), and he's got this week off work so doubtless I'll be smelling that incomparably tempting smell every morning all week! Angry Grin

Hi all!

I have been lurking for a while, I am a long time low carber, I was wondering what you all though about continuing this WOE in pregnancy? Just got a positive test result this morning and I really don't want to change my diet. I love it, carbs make me feel terrible as does dairy.

Any thoughts? I did start a thread on it, but thought I would ask here for opinions too.

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/07/2013 11:36

From what I have read about it - there has been no research done and so the general advice is to stay out of ketosis and eat at maintenance level. There are a group of women on yahoo groups who remained very low carb/paleo and support others, but I imagine medical establishments would be most unimpressed! Perhaps add back in some small amounts of carbs via better sources eg nuts, some fruits, etc... Just enough to keep you out of ketosis?

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/07/2013 11:36

Oh and congrats btw!!!

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/07/2013 11:38

This is interesting and has other links I think.

poopyisapig · 22/07/2013 11:44

I have been researching like mad over the past week!

My diet usually consists of this (I am a creature of habit!)

B - Either 2 bratwurst with a bit of mayo or 2 fried eggs and bacon
L - Tuna mayo salad or Egg mayo salad or chicken mayo salad (salad is dark green leaves - watercress, lambs lettuce, rocket with cucumber)
D - Steak, chicken or pork with broccoli and cauliflower or spinach.

I am very happy like that. But how can I tweak it? Maybe yorgut with berries and some almonds for breakfast?

poopyisapig · 22/07/2013 11:45

Was thinking of adding mashed swede for dinner as well

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/07/2013 11:50

Maybe add some fruit as as snack? Or some nuts as snacks if you get hungrier than usual? Or one slice of toast at breakfast? I am no expert you understand but have also researched like mad previously!!!

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/07/2013 11:51

Or add in things like more carrots, bit if sweet potato, butternut squash, those carbier veg?

poopyisapig · 22/07/2013 11:52

I can't eat fruit or drink fruit juices, especially in pregnancy as the sugar swings cause me to have extreme sickness.

In my first pregnancy, all I ate when I could was carbs and fruit and I was so sick all the way though. Second pregnancy (I had a mmc though at 9 weeks) I low carbed and felt amazing, my blood sugar was stable which I think helped stave off the sickness.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 22/07/2013 12:02

Good morning all. I am starting week four and looking forward to seeing some loss this week. I have still not lost anything since the initial 4 lbs in the first week, which I figure is water so I daren't eat carbs as I'll be back to square one! Is it usual to see no losses at this stage?
Might it be because I am close to goal and eating too many dare i say it calories? Or have I not switched to fat burning yet?
I had an interesting weekend. I have some money that was left to me by my grandfather about 15 years ago that I stashed away. I am seriously thinking of using it to get a tummy tuck. I am pretty lean all over except for a flabby and saggy big tum from 3 close pregnancies and 4 stone weight loss. Plus I have an abdominal separation. I ran the idea by DH who was very understanding and supportive and said go ahead if that's what you want to do. I'm pretty sure my father will go crazy and be upset though. I've looked at before and after photos and can hardly believe that it could be possible and the answer to my prayers!
Don't get me wrong, I know it's not the easy option but I have gained and lost a few pounds in the last year and cannot shift the belly fat and I'm completely out of proportion.
Thoughts?

Negroni · 22/07/2013 12:31

Morning. Quick question: How do you all know how tall you are? I have just realised that although I kind of presume I am 5 foot 2, I have actually no idea. Where can you get measured as an adult? I think I will have to resort to using pencil mark on wall when DP back and trying to root around for tape measure in house.

Am horrified at the thought that I may be shorter than I think and will have yet more poundage to lose before getting to normal bmi. Sigh.

Must - you have started this quest. I think we are the same height though for all I know I could be 4 foot 11!! and was just thinking that your weight would be really only be about 3/4 pounds (max) above my goal weight. In fact I think I would be pretty slim at your weight. When I was 135 lbs (over a decade ago) I was pretty slim and not overweight looking. Obviously everyone has a different body but could it be that it is hard to lose because you are now the right weight for you? Totally sympathise with tum issues though - my tum is still very solid at the mo - long way still to go...

CorrieDale · 22/07/2013 12:42

Musttidyup I can see where you're coming from because that is my dodgy area too. I'm sure you've tried exercise fixes but just in case you haven't, I can really recommend Pilates. My abs are fairly hard now (still quite hidden under a hefty layer of blubber you understand!) after a year of once a week Pilates.

CheeseAndMushroomToastie · 22/07/2013 12:46

stuntnun can I ask how many carbs you consumed a day on the light bootcamp? I am ebf a three month old and think I would really struggle with doing the low carb bootcamp.

sybilfaulty · 22/07/2013 13:13

Hello everyone

I am back and looking forward to joining you again after a few random weeks. I am going on holiday in 4 weeks and would love to be a bit thinner. A strict few days therefore beckon in order to kick start things.

How are you all doing?

NigellasGuest · 22/07/2013 13:14

Thank you everybody with your constipation advice - I wrote a post naming people and when I went to post message, MN had gone offline! I hate it when that happens!!! Too hot to sit at laptop now so happy low carbing everyone Grin bye for now!

BerylStreep · 22/07/2013 13:19

Corrie once you switch to fat burning mode it will be easier. I cycled 27 miles yesterday morning, at a fast pace, and it didn't fizz on me at all - I could have easily done twice that.

Once you are in fat-buring mode, your body will be able to access your fat stores directly, rather than using glycogen then having to convert to fat (I believe this is the point that marathon runners refer to as 'the wall')

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 22/07/2013 13:25

That's the thing negroni I am in good shape and have thin face/legs/ arms and plenty if muscle tone but a dreadful tummy. And I don't mean just a little not flat pot belly I mean a massive overhang and 2 bellies where my separation doesn't hold the top together either. And a hidden smile shaped belly button. I can't be slim whilst I'm carrying this thing around with me. Sad.
Yes corrie I've tried exercise and had women's physio for my prolapse and she gave me exercised for the diastis recti too.
An exercises are fruitless as you wouldn't see the progress anyway!

StuntNun · 22/07/2013 15:36

Congratulations Poopy! You may need to see how you go, assess your appetite, whether you're very tired or not. Make sure you're taking a pregnancy supplement though as you want to be sure your baby stores enough minerals and without depleting your supply.

It wouldn't do any harm to do some research MustTidy, maybe start investigating clinics and make the decision later.

Cheese I didn't measure my carb intake but I was getting nuts, berries and dairy most days. If I were to start again I think I would add a banana at bedtime for the first week because I struggled with feeds between dinner and breakfast.

Ruprekt · 22/07/2013 17:11

Marking my place.

Had a planned cheat over the weekend with alcohol but am back on this WOE straight away.

CJCregg · 22/07/2013 17:58

Hi all Grin

Marking place. I need to read the whole thread but it's long.

I seem to have fallen into low-carbing by mistake (to paraphrase Withnail). I did 6 weeks raw fooding in the spring, lost some weight but plateaued and then did hardcore Dukan for a week before going on holiday in order to fit into swimming costume.

On holiday I continued with Dukan maintenance (protein, vegetables, fat-free yoghurt, no fruit) and realised I was basically low-carbing. I had ice cream nearly every day (I was in Italy and I'm not a fucking saint) but otherwise stayed away from all bread, pasta (sob), potatoes, sugar, fruit etc.

I lost weight. This has never, ever happened on holiday before. And I actually enjoyed what I was eating.

So I'm now a bit of a convert, but need to read the rules properly to know what I'm doing.
