Well done everyone who completed the Summer Bootcamp!

here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to continue adding to it

Obviously there are many of us who want to continue, either to lose more weight or just for general support to help with this WOE, so here is a brand new, shiny chat thread.

As for me, having slipped a lot a little when I was away, I'm firmly back on the wagon today.

And can I remind you, that if you haven't completed the survey we would be very grateful for your views/thoughts on how we can improve Bootcamp.

Much better eating yesterday, I must keep it up. I'm definitely in for rebooting Bootcamp.

B: M&S low-carb chipolatas
L: roast chicken, black olives and three cherry tomatoes
D: barbecued lamb chop, pork ribs, half a burger (no bun), chicken leg, mushrooms, courgette and a sliver of red onion

Would it be worth you carb / calorie counting for a bit Chipping? Is it possible you're having too much of a good thing? I remember one Supersize vs Superskinny where the Supersize was eating a really good healthy diet, just too much of it. I know I have a lot of difficulty telling when I'm full so I anticipate I will struggle when I get nearer my target weight. Also I think it's impossible to compare your weight loss with other people because we all have such different histories and percentages of weight to lose. I know I struggled with the woe on holiday and put on a few pounds but my DH continued to lose and he even had a few beers the scumbag, I caught him putting a new hole in his belt last night. But his weight gain is very recent, all in the last year, whereas mine has accumulated over the last eleven years.

CrabbyBigBottom · 21/07/2013 10:07

Stunt I think men lose weight more easily than women, as a generalisation. When I started this WOE I asked DP if he wanted to do it as well and he wasn't willing to give up muesli for brekkie and sandwiches for lunch. I warned him that he'd likely put on weight eating that and then a fat drenched meal that I'd cooked in the evening. After a couple of weeks of evening meals full of butter, double cream and oil, the jammy bastard had lost 2kg! Hmm Grin I think it was partly the drop in our wine consumption too, but then he'll drink a beer with aforesaid fatty meals in the evening quite often. He does go to the gym or running quite a bit though.

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/07/2013 10:21

chipping you just made me snort out loud at the bikini comment. I reckon I need to lose about 5 more stone to even contemplate it!!!

toomuch yes I am having two super strict weeks before holiday, from last year I could be ok on holiday, but I know I need to be in the zone before I leave!!!

ChippingInHopHopHop · 21/07/2013 10:37

stuntnun I logged my food on 'mfp' in the beginning to see how many carbs I was eating & it was around 25-32. I know I'm not eating 'loads' & I believe in low carbing over calorie counting, so I don't really want to 'go there'.

I know my protein levels are really very low - but I can't find a way to increase them without increasing tofu/quorn intake and looking back, I think it's quite possible that last months down/up/down was caused by trying to increase (my fat &) protein levels and being a non egg eating vegetarian the only way I could do that was to eat more quorn & tofu (the ones I was buying were low in carbs 1g per 100g & incidentally calories as well, thought that wasn't a consideration) (and increasing the fat). Now I have cut right back on all of that again my weight is moving again but my protein levels are low.

I'm not really sleeping again (age old problem which seemed to get a lot better when I started low carbing) but didn't change last month, so not protein related I don't think and might have just been a co-incidence when I started low carbing.

Another thing that has changed is that I haven't had any brocolli for the past week whereas I'd been having it most days. Fishing for 'answers' I know Grin I love brocolli but could live without it to lose weight....

ChippingInHopHopHop · 21/07/2013 10:45

MrsHP - I spent the afternoon playing 'run through the sprinkler' in my bra & pants bikini the other day (on my own, in a 'not over looked' garden) it was a lot of fun :) I felt about 5 again!! But I'll never wear one in public again, even if I do lose the weight, this old body will not be fit to wear a bikini :( It was really lovely to have the sun/air to my midrift for a change though. Sadly the not overlooked garden isn't mine - so it was a bit of a one off treat!

What is your pre-holiday aim then, as it's not to be 'bikini fit'?

StuntNun · 21/07/2013 11:08

Have you thought about posting on Mark's Daily Apple or is there a Briffa forum Chipping? You may be able to get some tips there. What about a low carb protein supplement? I know they go against Briffa's thinking but could that be a better compromise for you? Can you increase the amount of exercise you're doing?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 21/07/2013 11:45

In Ubercamp can you drink tea with milk? Or a splash of cream? Maybe I should stick to herbal tea.

MrsHP and StuntNun, today is Day 1 of Ubercamp! I have had scrambled eggs for breakfast and I'm going to go shopping in a bit for all the other things. Tonight will be roast pork with crackling, mmm. I'm moving the menu around a bit to fit with work - I can't come home from work on Tuesday (day 3) and wait for roast pork to cook, so I'm having it tonight instead. I might mix in some of the fish breakfasts so I can eat them at work, too.

NigellasGuest · 21/07/2013 14:32

Can anyone tell me please how to print Ubercamp recipes straight from the document or is that not possible? Thanks

BerylStreep · 21/07/2013 14:41

Chipping welcome back. I think you should be really pleased with yourself. 38lb since January is absolutely amazing - almost 3 stone! I personally would be delighted with 5-6 lbs a month (but I keep drinking wine, so no surprise that I don't achieve that). Would it be worth getting your iron levels (and thyroid) checked, and do you take a good multi-vitamin? I felt awful a few months ago, and my iron stores were low, so my GP put me on iron.

I cycled 27 miles this morning, so feeling pleased with myself. Thankfully the weather is a little cooler today.

If others are doing a strict week this week I am happy to loin in, although we have guests staying with us for a few days, so there could be some alcohol.

NigellasGuest · 21/07/2013 14:43

and please please does anyone have any tips for low-carb constipation relief - it's been a whole week now!! Blush Thanks
I am drinking tons of water, taking Vitamin C & strong coffees, have had small amounts of linseed (flaxseed) in Total.
I was going to resort to prune juice as there's loads in the house but when I googled it turned out to be about 65g of carbs per 100 ml!

BerylStreep · 21/07/2013 14:52

Bouncing on the trampoline?

NewStartNewStory · 21/07/2013 14:56

Grin Beryl

timidviper · 21/07/2013 14:57

Chipping I have to disagree with you too about the weight loss rate. I still have lots of weight to lose, I have lost almost 3stone so far and have way more than that to go and, although I would love to see large losses on the scales, I honestly believe that slower is better.

I have been footling about for a while and, while I don't recommend that, I think it has been good to slow things down. I don't feel so "flabby" and friends have told me I look thinner / skin looking good, etc despite not losing weight. I think if you do things slower your body has time to adjust, redistribute fat stores and stuff.

Remember slow and steady wins the race!

NigellasGuest · 21/07/2013 14:59

Thanks for nothing

loopyloou · 21/07/2013 15:01

Nigella, how much water are you drinking? Are you eating enough fat?

loopyloou · 21/07/2013 15:04

Can you copy and paste the text from the spreadsheet recipes into Word or Notepad, then print from there? Not sure if you can print direct from the spreadsheet (am on iPad, so can't try).

NigellasGuest · 21/07/2013 15:06

Loopy Thanks
drinking huge amounts of water but actually perhaps I should give myself a sudden boost of fat......
I'm anaemic but the iron I'm taking is called Spatone and it's a liquid so shouldn't be having this effect!

NigellasGuest · 21/07/2013 15:08

I think I will revert to copying and pasting - but I'm finding this a bit weird ATM as the spreadsheet keeps bumping about - was just wondering if there was a way to print direct, but quite possibly there isn't!

loopyloou · 21/07/2013 16:03

Nigella I've only taken iron tablets when I was pregnant, but they made me terribly constipated. I tend to get constipated easily, but find lots of water, fat and leafy veg like lettuce help. Also peppermint capsules or peppermint tea might help. Hope things improve. Could just be your body adjusting to this WOE.

Eglute · 21/07/2013 16:34

Hey everybody

I have only started low carb woe today and I've got so many questions to ask. This site has a lot of useful info.

Can anyone tell me how the boot camp works and when are you going to run another boot camp?

Is it ok to drink coffee?

Thanks x

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 21/07/2013 17:23

Coffee is fine, Eglute. Next Bootcamp starts in Sep.

Nigella, does coffee help to get things going?

prettybird · 21/07/2013 18:00

Loopy - never been a problem for me but I seem to recall BIWI or Willie suggesting in extreme cases that you eat half a bag (and half a bag only Grin) of sugar free Thorntons toffee. I believe that that has the required effect Wink

prettybird · 21/07/2013 18:01

Should said Nigellaaguest not Loopy Blush

loopyloou · 21/07/2013 18:12

Drat, pretty, thought I had an excuse for eating toffee! Wink
