Well done everyone who completed the Summer Bootcamp!

here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness if you want to continue adding to it

Obviously there are many of us who want to continue, either to lose more weight or just for general support to help with this WOE, so here is a brand new, shiny chat thread.

As for me, having slipped a lot a little when I was away, I'm firmly back on the wagon today.

And can I remind you, that if you haven't completed the survey we would be very grateful for your views/thoughts on how we can improve Bootcamp.

So I had the lidl (eridonius. Sp?) Greek yoghurt for breakfast and it seems quite carry - 6g carb in 125g portion. Is that ok or am I just eating too much?
Could someone pls remind me if it's 20 or 25g carbs max I should be going for in these early weeks?
I had courgette ribbons for the first time today cooked in butter with tender stem broccoli, small piece of steak (fridge empty and raided freezer!!) and dollop of mayo and tsp of coarse grain mustard for lunch.
Sound ok?
Just trying to keep on the straight and narrow!!! Grin

Cherrypi · 20/07/2013 15:42

Wel done Crabby. OhCobblers I might try those courgette ribbons tonight. Lost another 2lb this morning so that's 9lb in my first week. I'm now back to my normal weight. I'm still a stone over a healthy bmi so I'm going to keep going. I amazed how quickly I've been reprogrammed as a life long chocolate/biscuit/cakeaholic. Even refilled the biscuit tin today without having one. I'm sleeping better too. Still occasionally feel a bit dizzy when I stand up but overall feeling good.

NewStartNewStory · 20/07/2013 15:44

Watch the carb levels of the mayo and i am not sure if you also need to check the mustard? I don't eat mustard so no idea.

BIWI · 20/07/2013 16:05

OhCobblers - there's no daily amount on Bootcamp. Just follow Bootcamp rules and that should be enough!

Thank you stuntnun and newstart. Have looked at the old thread and it helped. Was ready to throw in the towel but will hang on in there.
I'm having a takeout curry tonight. Any suggestions?

CorrieDale · 20/07/2013 16:33

Gosh, nuts are pretty much my salvation! I'm veggie and although I love eggs I'm finding a few pine nuts in a salad make a lovely change from the relentless egginess of the veggie plan.

I found the celia brown low-carb veggie book at the library today. Looking forward to cooking dinner tonight!

loopyloou · 20/07/2013 16:39

Any ideas about carb content of my home made mayo? I use 1 egg yolk, 2 tbsp cider vinegar, salt, pepper and 350 ml sunflower/olive oil and a dash of lemon juice.

captainmummy · 20/07/2013 17:03

MustTidyUp -how tall are you? 9st for me (average, 5'4") wuold be my ideal weight. Even if you are at that weight you cuold still have stretched skin and saggy bits which are nothing to do with fat, or muscle.

I once saw a documentary where the guy lost a phenomenal amount of weight, but had still about 2stone of just skin round his tummy where it wouldn't tauten up. He had to tuck it into his trousers. He had surgery i think.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 20/07/2013 17:08

captainmummy I am 5 foot 2. Healthy BMI but tummy is so big in comparison to the rest of me. I have a diastis recti (sp?) which is abdominal separation which doesn't help the appearance.

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/07/2013 17:19

Hurrah chipping is back!

I have been off piste in a major way this week as it was my last week at work after 13 years there and very emotional! There has been alcohol and a rather random selection of food, practically non of which was bootcamp friendly and nearly all on the 'definitely banned and never to be eaten again list'. I had a great time though, and am back in the zone today. I have two weeks until my holiday so would like to also join in the super strict of you who are trying as well. BIWI perhaps we should have a new thread for Monday ready for it?!?

Xenia · 20/07/2013 17:36

Sorry, I did not mean to suggest nuts were in any sense bad for you. It is just that plenty of people trying to lose weight eat massive amounts of nuts which are giving them lots of calories. Eat away. It was just one thing that might be leading to the weight. It is hard to get fat on meat and fish and eggs and much easier to on nuts, that's all, because people can eat loads of them without realising how many they are packing away and that is harder to do with steak or spinach.

LilyAmaryllis · 20/07/2013 17:41

Crabby you're a hero and it sounds like the motorcyclist has been lucky, not too badly injured, which must be good for you to know. Take care of yourself, especially if having flashbacks etc.

Chipping! you're back! So sorry you've been despondant. Sounds like your tweaks of lower protein etc are working. 5-6lbs a month I think sounds great.

Sometimes I think, even knowing that I'm not gaining weight, is great.

Today, not very hungry (maybe due to takeaway curry last night?)

B - yogurt with strawberries
L - left over spinach bahji!
D - is going to be salmon, roast veg and salad.. lucky me, DH is cooking it

CrabbyBigBottom · 20/07/2013 18:29

No probs Xenia, it's just that Chipping has problems finding protein sources as she doesn't eat meat, fish or eggs, nor much dairy.

Lily bless you I'm no hero at all but thank you! I'm feeling really flat and tired today, due in large part to drinking too much wine last night, I'm sure, but maybe the shock of it all too. My left thigh and gluteal muscles are aching like buggery too - no idea why must be how I was crouching or something. I'm so shamefully unfit! Hmm

Food today:
B - few spoonfuls of smoked salmon with creme fraiche and 'caviar'
L - leftover curry
D - will be spicy lamb burgers and Black Farmer sausages on the BBQ, with courgettes and tomatoes

loopyloou · 20/07/2013 18:33

I remember reading recently that someone roasted veg and then had them cold the next day. What low carb veg do you roast?

loopyloou · 20/07/2013 19:41

Today I have had scrambled egg with green beans, mushrooms and a little bacon with HM mayo, for lunch bacon, fried egg and fried mushrooms and for dinner pork chop with a huge pile of cauliflower and green beans. A snack of 3 slices of salami. 2 glasses of water plus 1 litre at work this morning, 2 decaff black coffees. Will have lots more water.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 20/07/2013 19:44

I have it often loopy
Aubergine
Courgettes
Red onion
Cherry tomatoes
Cauliflower
Carrots
In varying quantities. Some or all. Olive oil, salt and pepper.
Leftovers into quick coronation veg with some mayo and bit of chilli powder. Sounds wrong but tastes good!

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 20/07/2013 19:47

Today, despite my crisis of confidence I have had
B: bacon scrambled egg and mushrooms
L: leftover roasted veg and chicken breast. Mayo.
S: few pork scratchings
D: going to have bought chicken curry (carb content less than 5%) and homemade aubergine curry.
Planning on having some lovely 72% cocoa dark choc. Just a bit though. Wink
I said I would give it a month and I will. Grin

loopyloou · 20/07/2013 20:05

Sounds lovely musttidyup, thanks Smile

hurricanewyn · 20/07/2013 20:12

Today I've eaten:

B - 2 boiled eggs, mashed with butter
L - 3 slices of corned beef
D - Steak with creamed leeks, salad & garlic mayo

4L of water too

It's been a while since I've low carbed properly - please feel free to point out anything that could be better or anything that's wrong.

LilyAmaryllis · 20/07/2013 20:15

Crabby you deserved that wine!

I'm shamefully unfit, but at least carrying round a little less weight makes what little physical activity I do, easier...

BeenieBaby · 20/07/2013 20:17

Hurrah! I stuck to LC today despite temptation o the cakes at the market and dh ordering a curry takeaway! I had fried eggs and spinach with mayo for real fast, smoked salmon salad for lunch and grilled veg with some haloumi and boiled eggs for dinner. I also had some olives and total yogurt as a snack.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 20/07/2013 21:07

Are other people starting a strict option tomorrow? Or Monday? I'm going to try Ubercamp starting tomorrow. I like the fact that the recipes are all laid out with a shopping list and everything. I can't wait for the next Bootcamp - I turn 30 in October and I want to have lost a stone before then!

loopyloou · 20/07/2013 21:08

Tooextra I started ubercamp today as I think I've been having too much dairy and feel bloated.

ChippingInHopHopHop · 21/07/2013 00:41

NewStart - Thanks for the star :) though not sure that was the way it should have been delivered, I quite fancied a proper ceremony & all. Sigh.. I could wear a belt I suppose, but it's too hot to be trussed up like a chicken Grin Besides, I have now found another 3 pairs of shorts that fit better (thought I'd got them all out, then remembered there were another 3 pairs in another drawer that were too small at the time, they fit nicely now. Not as nice a style as the others, but are staying up! LOL). Hopefully they will be too big soon too!! Nice to be back :)

Crabby - I did see those links and had actually seen most of them before, but nice to have another look. It's eating out that is the real problem, eating at home is OK. I am eating almonds (on a daily basis courtesy of Costco) and macadamias as a treat (courtesy of Waitrose - ouch). Nice to know I wasn't talking to myself Grin

BIWI - I really don't want to argue with you but I will Grin, 5/6 lbs per month, when it is really, really hard to do, to the degree I have to do it, to get that 5/6 lbs, doesn't feel 'good enough'.

I am not having the odd 'off piste' meal out, or wine or 'treats' - the most 'off piste' thing I have had in 6 months was that ice cream and being generous, it was one small scoop... doing this as a vegetarian, is HARD. It is frustrating to see others having meals out, alcohol etc and still losing more than me. (Though don't get me wrong, I am incredibly happy for them at the same time!!).

I would dearly love the 'reward' for being this bloody good, to be 7/8 lbs per month, without skipping a whole fecking month, which given I still have LOADS to lose, I think is reasonable.

As I have said before, I am pleased that it seems to be keeping my bsl's low enough to avoid metformin and yes, I'm sure it's better for my health, but I could probably include more carbs and keep my levels 'ok', so if it wasn't for the weight loss aspect I would probably be able to eat out with a lot less fuss. It is seriously impacting on my social life and I can't do this for the next 2 years solid without going a little mad in the process. If it was 8lbs per month, then maintenance I could face the hard-line for the time it would take.

And just to re-iterate. I don't see low carbing as a 'diet', I do see it as a 'WOL', but a 'WOE' 95% of the time to maintain.

Anyway - just how good was your holiday? Details have been scarce Grin

Xenia - there are quite a few people on this thread who are losing more than 6lbs per month.

'Better healthy/diabetes tests is worth this way of eating even if you lose nothing so well done on that' Thanks.

Yes, Quorn does have a little bit of egg in it. I live with that. I have it once/twice a month, just for a little variety. I would prefer it didn't have any egg in it, but it does and I tolerate that.

When I have stopped eating cheese it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Although Briffa says Greek yogurt can help with weight loss, I am almost sure it stops me losing weight, but it's hard to know, 100%. However, I haven't bought any for ages 'just in case'.

However, avoiding pretty much everything 'just in case' gets a bit tedious.

I could stop eating nuts, along with the tofu, quorn & cheese and that would leave me with... vegetables.

Ultimate carnivores have a much easier life low carbing Grin

MrsHP - Hi x You are leaving after 13 years... definitely emotional!! Good luck 'being strict' for 2 weeks!! Think of the bikini!!

Hi Lily :)

Xenia · 21/07/2013 08:11

(I think carrots might be highish carb. Some onions are too but they are certainly good healthy whole foods. I was reading an interesting article about Victorian eating in about 1850 yesterday and before sugar took over and when most could not afford drink and tobacco even in towns they ate fairly well - lots of herrings and onions. Soldiers for the wars were fit. Then roll forward to 1914 and they had had to reduce the minimum height for the army down to about 5 foot and most men from towns were eating very badly and not at all well as diet had changed to more processed foods and sugar).
