Week 8 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - Only 3 weeks left!

BIWI · 17/06/2013 08:08

Morning campers.

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

So only three weeks left. I know that things have been moving quite satisfactorily for some of you, so hopefully these last three weeks can see a few more of those pesky pounds disappear.

I had a bit of an altercation with some sticky toffee pudding this weekend (at the PILs) so I've got my work cut out over the next few days to undo the damage!

Off for a run shortly ...

Ooh it's quiet in here this morning. I hope that's because you're all off living the dream (Hmm Grin) rather than lying on the ground smeared with chocolate and pasta remnants, gazing up at the departing wagon... Wink

Here is the Kashmiri chicken recipe for those who wanted it. 'Tis looooverly.

Negroni · 22/06/2013 12:40

Crabby Grin - Know what you mean - it is eerily quiet! Am about to get ready for my big party .... but hoping not to have to repent too many sins tomorrow!

CrabbyBigBottom · 22/06/2013 13:07

Have fun Negroni! If you eat before you go you'll have more willpower and won't drink as much as if you're hungry. I of course never do this because I get a bit jittery before parties so don't feel hungry, and because I rather like drinking too much! Hmm

sybilfaulty · 22/06/2013 13:12

Sorry girls but I am struggling. It looks like I will be made redundant now and stress has had me hitting the wine in the week. Ok on food but I know wine is verboten. I should know in a couple of weeks for definite but will do my best til then.

Some amazing losses on the thread. Well done everyone.

StuntNun · 22/06/2013 13:20

Don't worry too much Sybil, I went through redundancy last year and it does derail you at the time. Could you concentrate on eating well enough to maintain your weight for now? Or try the old trick of drinking one or two glasses of water for every glass of wine to reduce your intake a little?

News flash for me, I managed to do up a pair of my pre-pregnancy size 14 jeans! Okay there was more than a little muffin top but they did up and I could probably wear then in an emergency. I tried on a size 14 shirt too and it was gaping a little over the boobs but it was okay, last time I tried it on it was indecent! Those first five pounds lost have made a big difference. I've put it all aside for now and I'm going to try then on again in two weeks, hopefully I'll be able to wear my size 14 clothes for my holiday next month.

BIWI · 22/06/2013 14:22

sybil I'm so sorry to hear that - it's shit Sad Don't blame you for hitting the wine. Be kind to yourself. But remember that being kind can also be about staying on track foodwise.

Fingers crossed for you.

OP posts:
Negroni · 22/06/2013 14:29

Sympathies Sybil, that is really tough and I don't blame you drinking vino. Well done for keeping on track with food though.

Well done stuntnun! Today muffin top, in two weeks they will be doing up with ease and then it will be the size 12s!

Crabby - it is a 3 course dinner thing so I am trying not to eat too much and when I get there will still try not to eat too much! It is the booze that will be tricky though ... Watch this space.

berryfreeze · 22/06/2013 14:54

Great recipe Crabby. Have just started following your blog.

Sybil - that is crappy. Hope it works out ok for you.

Just back from Parents Day as DS's school. Proud moment when he went up to get his prize. He was mortified though! We took a picnic lunch - fresh baguette for DS and DH and a salad for me. We are off to pizza express for dinner later though. I will have wine. I know I said I wouldn't until my holiday but can't see it's going to make that much difference at this stage!

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 22/06/2013 16:07

Thanks all :)

Kotinka - re not breaking Ketosis

BIWI · 22/06/2013 16:14

Step away from the chocolate, Chipping!

OP posts:
LilyAmaryllis · 22/06/2013 16:17

Pretty you look lovely and you are such an inspiration, making it to normal BMI. Well done and I will keep going so I can say that one day too!

Chipping don't do anything daft! Especially as the weight's on the way down again. Let it continue falling. When you get to the next goal, what happens, will you celebrate or treat yourself?

I reckon I might get to normal BMI by Christmas, I haven't broken it up any more than that!

NobodyPutsMyBabyInTheCorner · 22/06/2013 16:34

Crabby trying your recipe this evening.

Stuntnun Well done Smile I remember when I got my pre pregnancy jeans back on, mind you, I was lunging around the room to get them over my thighs Blush

We went to Alton Towers today and there was literally nothing low carb to have! I had a cappuccino all day with one sugar. They had the smallest salad for £4.50 which I refused to buy, all paninis and sandwiches were £2.50. it's ridiculous.

I weighed in this morning after my cheesecake incident and came in one pound lighter than last week, I'm going to try to cling onto the loss for Monday!

BlackAffronted · 22/06/2013 16:37

I have a wedding reception this evening, I am so excited Grin I have just had my hair & nails done, my dress is ready & waiting .... can't wait.

Have been good all day, and plan on having diet coke & vod all evening. I know I shoudl stick to soda & lime, but I want to enjoy the evening. Going to have a prawn salad in a moment, so that I am not tempted by naughties on the buffet table.

Weighed this monring, and had gained :( but I am having my "into ketosis again period", so that will explain the gain & the bloating :(

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 22/06/2013 16:39

Just reporting in

Y'day
brunch 3 eggs scrambled with butter, smoked salmon and grated cheese
D creamy braised cabbage with bacon bits

Hope everyone is doing ok today, support for those struggling. Having a range of goals, short medium and long term like chipping is great idea I think, as it spurs you on, rather than just a nebulous idea of "I want to lose some weight" without any definite numbers.

MollyMollyMolly · 22/06/2013 17:47

Hi Ladies,
Your all such an inspiration. I started a few weeks ago but it is taking awhile for me to get off the carb wagon. I don't eat lots of them but am realising that even though I don't eat a lot of food I am not losing weight due to being peri menopausal. I have been told that low carb is the best way to eat at this time as it is the only way weight can be lost and maintained when estrogen levels are dropping and I know BIWI has said that it helped her get through the menopause. So....im really really going to do it properly now. Im not going on the spreadsheet just yet if that's ok as I need to find myself a bit with it all.
If its ok I just want to go low carb for now to ease myself into it (rather than bootcamp) or is there another thread I should be on for that.
Many thanks Smile

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 22/06/2013 17:50

BIWI - I may or may not have licked the teaspoon when I was finished the last batch...

However, it was licking the teaspoon, not eating the melted 400g from the bowl, so I still consider it a victory! Only 4 more batches of butterflies to go. Even if I do lick the spoon when I'm finished each batch, it's probably only going to be about 3 or 4 squares of chocolate... in 5 months, that's not bad going and that 'treat' is keeping me on the straight and narrow wrt anything else.

Lily - I don't really plan anything re treats. TBH, as revolting as this sounds, just knowing I have done it, is reward enough and keeps me Grin like a daft thing! The last BIG goal was to lose 10% of my body weight in 12 weeks (which I did in I think 13 weeks?) - I had the added incentive of shoving it right up someones nose though Grin I have a special date in August which I would like to do this before, it would mean a lot to me to be under this weight by then. It's do-able, so fingers crossed. Breaking the goals up really helps me as it never seems 'worth it' to mess it up before then and I have so much to lose that one end goal would be too depressingly far away! I also have a little bit in my diary where I write daft things like 'I will never be x weight again - ever' it's all a BUZZ right now after being stuck in 'fat hell will no escape' for so long :( :) Grin

Cider - Tell DS that I'm very impressed that he got a prize - what was it for? Parents day on a weekend - that's a great idea (for the parents, probably less so for the teachers!). How long before your holiday? (sorry, I can barely keep track of what I'm doing, let alone anyone else! LOL). What are you going to have tonight? I fancy trying their new Legere (sp?) salad.

Nobody - I often end up having only coffee in situations where I can't take food, there's hardly ever anything low carb, vegetarian, egg free. Sometimes I take a packet of almonds with me if I can. How was Alton towers other than that?

Black - I hope you have a brilliant time!! Make sure you have lots of fat & protein with your salad - it will help you resist the buffet!!

TooMuch - I'm a natural number cruncher I'm an accountant, don't shoot me and quite 'goals/project' orientated so I find it really helps me and it also helps me to write them out, think of new ones etc. They can be quite random Grin

Sybil - how long have you been in your job? Is there much around in your field? How badly will it affect your family if you are made redundant? My friend works for A Big Company - they have been having 'redundancies' every 6 months since the recession first hit, they're very low on staff now, but have just been told there's another xxx (huge HUGE) amount of staff going... eventually her luck is going to run out and she is the only one earning money (her DH is a SAHD and couldn't earn what she does even if he did get a job first). It's a worrying time still for a lot of people :( I'm contracting and it's shite - I'm between contracts at the moment, just doing a tiny bit of ad-hoc work and it's not enough :( Fingers crossed for you x

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/06/2013 17:52

mollyMollyMolly stay and chat as you get

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/06/2013 17:55

mollyMollyMolly stay and chat as you get to grips with low carb - there is everything you need to know on the spreadsheet (link in OP). Welcome!

Fri: bacon and eggs
L - grilled goats cheese, lettuce, cucumber and tomato
D - duck legs and cabbage

Today: bacon, eggs and mushrooms
L - Caesar salad from cafe Nero

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 22/06/2013 17:56

Hi Molly :)

Have you read the Bootcamp 'rules'? What part of that do you not want to do at this stage?

I think a few of us felt like that at the beginning - I certainly did. It seemed too drastic or too much or too something... combined with me finding my feet re my diabetes diagnosis and being a non egg eating vegetarian, I just couldn't commit to it immediately - so I hung around chopping the last few bits out later on. Do whatever you need to do, but realise that the sooner you do it 100% the quicker you will see the results both weight and healthwise :)

I'm still not on the spreadsheet - I've never wanted to commit my weight to it Grin Which is bloody daft because if anyone was that interested they could work it out very easily Grin

BIWI · 22/06/2013 18:00

Welcome, MollyMollyMolly! No need to go on the spreadsheet if you don't want to.

What is it that you find hardest to give up? Perhaps we can help you with ways to adopt low carbing that might be a bit easier.

OP posts:
MollyMollyMolly · 22/06/2013 18:10

Thankyou for that warm welcome.
Well, I guess that its the cravings for bread that become difficult but I can overcome that by having a couple of nairns oatcakes. I love cheeses and wouldn't want to give up those. Can do without potatoes, don't have them anyway. I don't drink alcohol. Gave it up completely at the end of last year. I have always had really bad headaches after having any and had to take painkillers after so just decided to stop. I don't eat anything processed and don't eat anything low fat. I guess I eat more paleo for health reasons but as im getting into this menopause thing, nothing is shifting my weight and I get really really upset about it. Years ago it was so much easier to drop weight but now.....nothing!!! I do weights and a bit of power walking and bike riding. My daughter eats whatever she wants and never has a problem with her weight. Shes 23. But me...Ive always always struggled and just had enough really. Feeling very emotional at the moment....apart from the hot flushes all the time Im trying to do a TMA on business studies and getting nowhere fast!! lol!!
Thanks for your help.

Ruprekt · 22/06/2013 18:13

Lost another lb this morning!SmileSmileSmile

B....bacon, eggs and mushrooms

L...pack of coriander prawns

D....chicken curry with cauli rice

LilyAmaryllis · 22/06/2013 18:19

Yay chipping I like the idea of Never being that weight again.

Black have a great evening!

crabby not that I wish to influence your menu, but if you were to blog a recipe involving a cheese sauce it would be carefully studied! I've just made a very very odd low-carb cheese sauce for cauliflower cheese.

B - 2 x scrambled eggs, fried tomato
L - feta salad
D - questionable cauliflower cheese, leeks, asparagus

(I've concluded its completely impossible for me to keep off the cheese!)
